leesmithyt33
Hey guys! I was hoping someone could help me out I've been doing some research on the UK gun laws for a short YouTube video I'm putting together I can't seem to find any up to date information on how many rounds would be allowed to be stored per calibre maximum I know that under a sgc license it's pretty much unlimited for certain ammo but I read there was a limit on rimfire, also another question I have is is it compulsory to keep your rimfire bullets locked away from where the guns are stored or can they be stored in the same place? TIA Lee
steve_b_wales
Retaining ammunition depends on the police force who the licence is obtained from, and also, the amount of ammunition that a person uses, and, in some cases, if the person reloads their ammunition. For example, I am allowed to 'keep' 1750 .22LR, / 750 .22 Hornet, / .500 .204, / 500 .243 and 500 .308. I reload for all but the .22LR. Different police forces will decide what they think is 'enough' for someone to retain. All my ammunition, plus the bolts for the rifles, and stored away from my rifles, and in police approved ammunition safes.
bluesj
It depends on what you use if for how much you asked for, who your feo is and what force you are under. Then it can still differ from one person to the next.

TIA Lee Yes, depends on your individual police force. Usually, when you apply for your first FAC they will keep your levels low. As time passes you can apply to increase your limits. All ammunition has to be kept in a separate locked cabinet to the firearms. This applies to both rimfire and centre fire. Shotgun cartridges do not have to be locked away, written on your SGC, and whilst there is no limit stated to what you can hold, it is generally regarded that 10,000 would be seen as the maximum. More than that the combined amount of powder and powder in the primers would put you over the limits allowed by HSE without an explosives license. The exception for shotgun cartridges is slugs - being a single slug they are classed as section 1 ammunition, you have to have permission to hold xx amount on your FAC and they must be locked away in a separate cabinet.
