ROYAL MAIL STRIKES AGAIN !!

I have sold quite a few items last night and this morning, got to the post office paid for RM special delivery "guaranteed by 1pm", after I paid I was told there was a strike until Tues/Wed next week

What the hell is going on??

Why are they striking are they thick, these are just a few reasons why striking is not going to solve anything:

1) When you take up a job you know how much you are going to be paid, no ifs no buts.

2) They are only going to have to work twice as hard to clear the back log.

3) The strike apparently has nothing to do with pay, its to do with "modernizing" the company, if royal mail doesn't modernize the company postal workers will be sacked anyway, so again why are they striking and why are they asking for a pay raise??

4) They have been on strike several times before, isn't it obvious RM are not going to back down.

5) These strikes are only going to make customers resentful and move onto other couriers such as The DX, or UPS etc, this has already started hence the reason why RM need to modernize, cant the postal workers see this??

There are plenty more but I'm fuming about this strike.

What should I do about these special delivery items, I have spent over £40 on postage which says "guaranteed".

Definition: bonded: secured by written agreement

So RM are breaking a written agreement, if I wanted to could I take this further or because its a Union strike does the agreement still apply?

Makes you realise there are a few fundamental things that need to happen to make the economy tick. Generally us working class Brits are lie down and die types which is why Bliar had an easy time. I am absolutely delighted the ROYAL mail staff have given it the "V" sign. 2.5% pay increase in a bloody joke, insulting at best. Stick it out lads and bring the country to it's knees. We need a recession in order to get some sort of sense of reality.

The downside is that fat scottish tw*t will use it as an excuse not to go to the polls (postal votes). After a month or two of problems with the post watch the effect on the economy and "confidence".

please don't I run a courier company and we're mullered already. Bloody royal mail its good in one way but in another we're about 400% up workload wise which is manic.

Got called a rude name this morning when I wished our postie a happy holiday

Not only that but because of the new work routines they will have to work to get the 2.5% it will mean they will be getting less money. I`m behind the posties too, the dogs like them too they get a bit of excitement when he sticks his fingers throught he letter box

Let's see what will happen if this continues. More than ever people, especially in rural areas buy and trade on the internet. To my simple mind this increases the value of the postal system. It is VITAL to everything, in many ways we rely on it.

How the hell can any "socialist" government ignore the the needs of the people it represents. Folk are not just buying "white" goods and luxury items a lot of the time they are getting goods that are critical to their wellbeing, e.g. food, clothes, medicine, even contact lenses!

I have a chosen vocation in the private sector ( I'm engaged with a footsie top 20 company). My salary is too damn good compared to the hard work the posties put in and it is ******' shocking they can't muster a decent pay increase. Diabolical is the only way I can describe this pathic situation.

The majority of mail I get is now delivered by UK Mail. This is in my opinion a warning to the postal industry that there is strong competition for the work that was previously protected from competition. They need to wake up and smell the coffee instead of holding their employer - AND THEIR CUSTOMERS to ransom.

Scargill tried it on - the nation resented his tactics and switched to gas and electric. It's always the people who have virtually guaranteed jobs who have lead us to become complacent about their worth and fuelled uncompetiveness. Doctors and dentists for example. Baggage handlers who choose to strike at peak demand times.

Employers have to take steps to become more efficient or go to the wall. I sell stuff on Ebay - but have currently stopped the sales till the post office deals with it's bullies.

I hate RM as I said above, nothing arrives on time, mail vanishes, the postman arrives several hours late.

If someone walked out of my workplace I would suspend them indefinitely, its not acceptable and you dont get anywhere by striking.

They have cost be 100's if not 1000's of £'s in lost mail, lost work due to late mail etc, my reputation has been damaged, I pay over the top for mail which is suppose to arrive next day, so why should they strike, its a disgrace.

I was watching the 6pm news and The DX is set to receive £20million due to the strike, good for them, they now have my business and RM have lost £400+ P/M from me alone. I'm sure many more people will be switching. In fact many companies already have due to royal mails appalling service.

comments like that should get you a visit from postman pat cap in hand :lol: :(

RM should be no different than any other company, if it dont work, fix it or shut it and let someone else do it right, from my understanding there are many delivery companies taking up the slack, this will only bennefit them and hurt RM, or will it be the age old thing of the Goverment will step in pay the debt off and everyone (joe public) picks up the tab again................... i wonder.

sorry, been down that union road too many times seen good shops and companies fall because of greed, on both sides of the fence before you type cast me.

Martin.

They picked the job ,So if they dont like it they should quit.

I hope they all see sense and all walk out tomorrow. Where would that leave us?

Maybe that's what the end game is? Shift the British workforce to benefits and "allocate" the bloody cheap imigrants in to a job.

i agree 100% thats all this gov is good for

They are a surly miserable bunch of strike monkeys.

In the real world it is not all roses and guaranteed anything (2.5%, no job cuts, no modernisation or otherwise).

Their service is useless and their customer service worse.

Let them strike, the monopoly will fall and in will come UPS, Fed Ex and "commercial" organisations.

Our UPS man in his brown van is the most helpful person you could hope to meet.

Like the miners all over again? A country and or a government should not have to sustain something which is completely uneconomic.

**** 'em big time. No sympathy whatsoever. Not a bit.

Good luck to your outfit Roadkill, they couldn't do a worse job.

I posted on here a couple of weeks back about the signage in our local collection depot - some of the rudest and most arrogent signage you would ever see. I took my camera with me to take photos but they didn't come out.

Next time I am down there I will get some and post them here. It is ridiculous that a customer facing organisation such as Royal Mail can allow itself to be run in such a fashion. As stated in the real world it just doesn't work like that - if you are rude to your customers and fail to provide a proper service, you go broke.

Who here wouldn't use Company B to deliver their post if they had the network and could deliver for the same or less money?

Exactly.

Notice of the strike was made public a while ago though, if you had read the papers you would have known your stuff wouldn't be delivered on time.

Good luck to them, I doubt it will pay off but if you take the defeatist attitude as the original post you will never get anything

They were not suppose to strike until NEXT WEEK!!!

I wanted to post everything this week so it would get there in time. Apparently the talks few through this morning and they p***ed off and are having the week off, what a bunch of losers.
