chunk
I see a "subject" in the same terms as an "object" and as such subject to........ A citizen is a free member of their country and isnt subject to anything.
mr_colt
Were not subject to the crown anymore. Just a police state.
Wookie
I quite like the idea of being a subject of the Queen as I am happy with her being the head of state rather than Gordon Brown or Tony Blair. I could handle being a citizen too, but it would feel wrong.

Dr W
I like the fact that we have a history of hundreds if not thousands of years. I would much rather have a head of state like the Queen than be in the same boat as France or America, pah.
Cranfield
I would much rather have a head of state like the Queen than be in the same boat as France or America, pah. Ahhhhh, but would you feel the same if it was King Charles and the slapper Camilla ? I have always been a "Royalist", but when the Queen retires and assuming Charles gets promoted, I think all bets are off. The only chance they have, is to make William King. I am not sure about the "citizen" bit, as I associate that word with the French and Russian revolutions. Its not that I am that old, I just read a lot. Dr W
Not so sure about the whole Horse face thing being Queen but I know Charles is a bit of an idiot but he does support the countryside and country sports so he can't all be bad. roadkill
well im sorry but i cant stand the royal family .. the only thing they are good for is a holiday attraction . mr_colt
Sucessive Governments have turned our Monarch from a keystone of our nation into being their PR agent. Can you imagine what they would do if she dare speak out against Government policy or refuse to give Royal Assent to a bill? They would wipe the Royal family out in an instant if they felt it was to their advantage. I notice however overseas in our "Dominions" the question of becoming republics has been put to refferendum a few times. Always defeated by a good majority it seems; if only we could have Patriotism like that in the UK again.... mr_colt.
death from below
Just look at our history over the last couple of thousand years....the royals have always been a bit of a bunch of Numpties...lets face it our most heroic and best celebrated king(Arthur) did not even exist as we know it. It would be a sad day if we ever lost the royals.....yes they can be a waste of space but they are so much part of our history that we must cherish and maintain them......the eroding of the royal family plays right into the hands of the gaurdian reading liberal types who hate anything British and want to destroy our heritage. An attack on the validity of our royal family is an attack on every true Brit in this world of ours. every day our englishness is being bit by bit taken away from us. Fight it and be proud of being an aggressive white beer drinking patriot becuase in a few years time even that willl be denied us if this current anti- english heritage bashing continues. invector
Englishness??? You are the subject of a German queen, with a Greek husband mate! Englishness??
Mungler
Chaps, this is not about whether you like the Royalty as personalities or not. Many years ago I studied Constitutional Law. I never liked the Royal family (bunch of over priviledged wasters). However, the seperation between Queen / King and State is imperative for "checks and balances". Having a monarchy that controls the military / Police stops a goverment from taking the ****. In much the same way as the House of Lords used to keep Parliament in check. Never trust those we purport to have elected. Look at Russia - they will have "open" elections soon and wow would you believe it Putin or Putin's crony will of course win. Checks and balances people. No CCTV, no civil monitoring and no DNA databases. You want to crack down on crime lets have more police. You want to stop terrorism, lets get some border controls and an immigration policy with teeth. You lose a civil liberty you will never get it back.... chip chip chip, drip drip drip they all disappear and never to return. I am an English Subject. dustyfox
Englishness??? You are the subject of a German queen, with a Greek husband mate! Englishness?? Mate it was quite often that that monarch's from other countries like france or spain to marry our king or queen. And I support the Royal family 100% because they dont lie as much as the government. I would jump in front of a bullit to save our queen.

berettaman1
What? What did you say? King Arthur is dead? oh damm, does this mean Camalott is now in the second division, and whats the connection between Camilla and Camalott? other than theyve both had it hard the last few years, and whose this evil sorcerer Del boy fayed who plots the downfall of the house of Windsor? Oh God, sorry I just woke up and was dreaming about a pantomine!! silly me.
codling99
think you need a cbe to be a citizen. and as for jumping in front of a bullet to save a person that is a multi billionaire, due to all of our hard earned taxes, you must be mad.not exactly anti royal, but dont give a monkeys chuff about them or their health either, sponging bu**ers if you ask me imo like. Wookie
I thought Phil came from Norway and only went to Greece because they wanted a bit of extra royalty? Either way, the guy is a decent sort and you can't really dislike someone that makes comedy lapses like he does. It's like Dennis Thatcher and Maggie... For all her faults, people respected her (and us) on the world stage, as opposed to the recent lot who are just ineffectual identity wreckers. The royal family has to stay, despite their faults, because they remind _US_ of who we are and who we were. That's a national identity. lurcherboy
I have no interest in the Royals but I do appreciate what they represent to the rest of the world and as such are a asset. Subject or citizen? I really don't care either way as I do what I want to, when I want to, how I want to and do not have to answer to anyone other than the rottie Legally of course. Mungler made a good point regarding the loss of civil liberties. Once it's gone you won't get it back and that's a fact. LB
