holloway
Ideally my stocks are always 14 1/4 ,but this one measured 14 1/2 without the butt pad ,I new it was too long in the shop but didn’t even think to measure it .I thought it would be sorted by changing to a thinner pad. so some of the stock had to go ,I didn’t want to make the actual stock stupidly short so I decided to add a 10mm walnut pad after removing a small amount of stock and ending up with the 14 1/4 that I wanted. Found a suitable piece of walnut off cut on eBay £5 (enough for two)Had to add some dye to darken it up a bit, added a few lines for grip and blackened a couple of screws for attaching it ,Finished up with a few coats of minwax . Not perfect but will do the job.

Old Boggy
That looks really good. I like the idea of using a checkering tool for the grooves. I used a thread file when I made mine and yours looks far better. You also have the satisfaction of having done it yourself which I admire, so well done. holloway
Thankyou for the positive comments,I enjoy messing about with my own guns ,wouldn’t want to take a risk on anyone else’s though.
Old Boggy
Here`s a wooden butt pad that I made for my 20 bore McNab highlander which had a rather nice leather covered pad which was too long for me. Not too bad for a first attempt but I wish that I`d used a checkering tool instead of a thread file as I think that it would have looked better. I still had the satisfaction of doing it myself and making a reasonably functional job of it. OB

OB That’s a big improvement on the leather one I like that a lot,I used the checkering tool as it was the one with the spacer guide head and keeps the lines parallel.
