Restoring things ???.

Hi gang.

               Just watched a chap on Youtube restore a Swiss army knife. It was as rotten as a pear. But the time it took him and money spent on 

                chemicals etc surely it would of been cheaper to go out and buy a new one. Same as some of the watches i've seen being repaired.

Some people just like to tinker. I quite like watching the vids.

Some old tools you cant get anymore so if you want one you have to buy old and possibly restore it.

I saw a movie called pulp fiction where Jon Travolta drove around a 64 Malibu while high on heroin.  He look so cool I had to have one.  It’s very therapeutic to take old things and clean ever individual piece to reassemble it.

This is an Acme mangle I restored. It had been over painted green  but the original colour was turquoise blue underneath. The rollers although not badly perished were dry and hard and just starting to get lightly crazed. The trough inside was rusty. I took it to pieces and paint stripped it and cleaned off any rusty bits.

Painted the inside trough with dark blue hammerite. The main spring and handle with with Rustins black and the rest with DTM RAL 5012. The turnscrews and chain were brass, so I just cleaned them up. The rubber rollers I reconditioned with Liqui Moly rubber care, then once dry painted with rubber white rib paint. Works really well now for doing the washing down the wood aided by a Presa Wash.

Hello, oh that takes me back many years, we had one and I use to help mum by turning the wheel and squeeze all the water out , that with an old clothes boiler, oh happy days 🤔😁

You made a fine job of that,it's great seeing old equipment,tools etc being brought back to life whether for ornamental purposes or to be used again,i watch a lot of restoration vids on Youtube,very interesting.

It seems a fascinating hobby for highly skilled people I often watch restoration of items  from butchers rusty cleavers to hand powered breast drills.    Highly equipped expensive workshops turn out some amazing restoration projects.
