A good friend

A good friend is building a kit car based on a Triumph Herald   - a Fairthorpe no less. He turns up when he has got stuck or something is broken. 

A couple of weeks ago, he turned up with a distributor - rotor seized, advance weights seized, vacuum advance stuck, cap corroded, HT lead holes badly corroded, rusted up just about everything. The photos are when the outside was cleaned up a bit, but before and after internals sorted. Now passes current and moving freely. It would be nice if he brought me parts that weren't seized, broken or corroded. It won't happen.

I haven’t seen one of them for years I had a Peugeot that had two sets of points in it I took it to a garage to put new points in it came out worse than when it went in so I brought a dwell angle meter and set to doing it myself with the help of my trusted strobe light I soon had it working

A lot of Coca Cola went into removing rust - freeing up seized bits.

When he brought it, I said he should throw it in the bin and get another. His answer is always the same - "I'm from Yorkshire and don't like spending money". I thought I would give it a whirl and then scrap it, but it became a bit of a challenge. I thought I could unseize the bits, but wasn't confident that it would move as freely as it needed to.

I hate the small fiddly stuff.

Gordon, you sound like a good friend as is my pal Stour boy on here. He is a whizz at repairing anything and has helped me out on several occasions and also has inspired me to repair stuff myself.

Years ago, I think it was a mini the points used to "jump" and I used to be able to guess setting the points and rocking it back and forwards to get it on the edge of the cam.
