Jebus H Christ on a combine harvester.

The attitude you lot demonstrate will be the death of shooting.

A small victory and after some nice words from people otherwise not known for their support of the shooting orgs, it's back to business as usual, that is to say, squabbling over semantics & irrelevances.

If only all of you could put as much mental energy into lobbying your MPs and other actual productive activities.

I wasn't around at the time, but I'm led to understand this sort of attitude is exactly why the handgun passed. It's easy to see why.

Yes - PR damage - i think it was also pushed home in relation to biodiversity damage and not following the science

The general public tends to not equate conservation and biodiversity to people with shotguns shooting birds.
We know different,

I wonder out of that 40,000, how many of them are unique people. Also, how many of that 40,000 applies to the UU grounds, as the wording implies that's part of the entire UK.

No idea , I pulled that quote off BASCs website ?

I would love for this to be a good news story and for shooting to be restored. I do believe it's odd how they were gifted the land, and under what circumstance as that could drive the decision making. Either way, good luck to all of those directly affected, and also those indirectly (the shooting community as a whole, family etc)

Agreed.

I don't usually get involved in the comments on the politics of shooting but I obviously keep up to date with what's going on in the world of shooting and it's  hard not notice the people who knock basc from pillar to post instead of backing them, basc are not always right but they are trying to counter allsorts of attacks on shooting I'd hate to be in their shoes I really would

No where on this thread has anyone knocked BASC , perhaps you are referring to other threads ?

The loss of the land is a major blow to some grouse shoots, but as many have said, you cannot force someone to let their land for this purpose if they dont want to.

It doesnt matter if shooting orgs protest about it , it doesnt matter if every single certificate holder in the UK protests about it.
Unless there is a legally binding reason for forcing them to continue leasing the land, they dont have to.
Apply it to any other situation beside compulsory purchase by council/government, and you will have the same result.

And you can back BASC, or any other shooting org as much as you like , they cannot move mountains, never have , and never will.

Whichever thread it is it goes on

No they can't  move mountains but without a voice nothing happens And its better to have some voice than none at all

Sometimes people dont agree with the direction an org is going, be they members or not , if questioning a policy which directly affects me and everyone else is unacceptable , what kind of organisation is that , and indeed , what kind of world is it ?

So we shout at the mountain, which achieves nothing but making us feel like we did something ?
How about we do something that will get a result, rather than waste time on the mountain?

Now if he had said BASC power !
Like Gordon says , a review is not a victory, its fairly likely that UU will consider the financial loss against public perception.

If anyone thinks UU are going to think, 'Oh those poor grouse shoots' then I would give your head a wobble.

More likely, 'those poor grouse' which would have a lot more resonance with their customer base no doubt.
