I applied for a renewal Feb 23 I'm still waiting April 24 this is with beds herts and cambs

Only response I've had is it's with decision maker and there's a backlog

Ouch... it is really terrible! I was thinking that at least renewal is taking less than half a year

The other thing is that if there is any question at all over your grant it is being tabled. I know of two cases, one where the holder was exonerated but they are still going to check, and one where the chap shouldn't be allowed a car let alone a gun - he's still waiting and will be for a long time.

I went to the Game fair at Blenheim palace last weekend and there was Cambridgeshire firearms team there. So I went in and asked about my renewal and I got the most rude ignorant officer you could ever wish to meet. He just kept saying you will have to lodge them. I told him I had done everything in plenty of time I had a two month extension and I wanted to know what to do next. I received more help from the BASC tent. The second officer that came by later was more helpful.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but just spoke with a chap at Cambridge gun club who has been waiting for 18 months.

I applied in Nov 23 so now prepared for a long wait. Went to Gun show earlier this month and spoke with Beds, Herts, Cambs stand and a total waste of time. A waste of taxpayers money having a stand as no point and no information on anything. I would rather pay 3 times the cost and have a decent service with 3 month turn around time max. The system is not fit for purpose and requires a total overhall. Shooting UK advises to write to local Police commissioner to complain otherwise nothing will happen to move forward. Good luck all.

Make sure you get your views into the PCC.

Have you had any updates on your application @Cyd

Nope 😞

I hope they can onboard six new officers by Christmas, who will then be able to clear the backlog within six months. Therefore, I need to accept that for the next year, I will only be able to practice shooting with instructors 🥲

The thing that makes me really annoyed is that as my other half's renewal is late (in addition to the other ones I mentioned) we now have to change all our security so he no longer has access to our guns.

Through absolutely no fault of either of you.

They really do need to get on top of this.

Someone at my club shared this with me, it's a PCC meeting with Cambs police from June. Apparently it's 12.5 staff they are hiring, not the 6 from that post on Reddit said!

I'm not sure where they are getting the 4.5 months for grant and 1.8 months for renewal from though, given most of us on here seem to be waiting at least a year for a grant, myself included, and alot of people I speak to in the club, their renewals are taking 6+ months and are getting extensions and then temporary permits after the extensions expire.

I have a 6 month extension as they are duty bound to keep you covered by the firearm act 1968 I believe. I quoted this and got BASC involved. Don’t give up give them grief.

Just had the call, they're not going to extend my 8 week grace period (July renewal date) and I've got 2 weeks to find someone to store them. They're just clearing April renewals so I've got to find someone registered to store them by 24th September.

Morning, did you give them 8 weeks notice before expiry? I am guessing not.

Tell them that is simply not acceptable, if,  that’s IF you put your application in in good time, 8 weeks before expiry.

"It looks like it's paying less than shelf stacking in Tesco so don't know how quickly they will fill the roles."

Quote from Cyd's Reddit. Is that still going on? Jobs for the boys because they know that 'the boys' have a pension and supposedly will accept a lower wage. Ex Service folk who have the skills that someone wants will be familiar with this.

You are right I didn't apply at weeks - I think I posted somewhere in PW.  I applied immediately after receiving the renewal notice  - on March 29th... I make that a mere 12 weeks.

I am not sure if this is humour or passive aggressiveness.

8 weeks is defined in law, and hence the point that they shouldn't say what you said they said if it were 8 or more weeks.

But, good luck.
