Same on the other trap 🤣

as said before, Mice, try setting a mouse trap in there and see what you catch.

Trap looks set fine enough. :good:

looking from the top screw/nail 4 pieces of wood to the inside of box (marked with x) to narrow the gap, this will help stop the rat running along the side of the box and miss the trip plate.

Well you had it the wrong way around in the tunnel and you were baiting it 🙄

not wrong but certainly different 😊

I turned it the right way round.

They also bait them on the video with the box posted above. 😭

Sat right on the trigger plate and the trap don’t go off 🤣

Looks like a wood mouse. Are you sure you have rats in that area? Its unusual to have wood mice and rats in the same area.

100% was a rat I shot it in the face with the air rifle last week.

I assumed rats don’t usually live alone.

Well if you shot it last week its possibly the reason the wood mice have moved back in, as I said, usually when you get rats in an area the wood mice move out.

Yes rats do live together, are your rat/s living in your garden or is it just the odd rat coming from another area?

I used fenn traps when I had chickens. Rats would visit a lot. I found that setting them and poking with a stick to see how well I'd set it was informative. They don't take a lot (but more than a mouse) to set off. I used 2 in a tunnel with bait in the middle, i often had 2 rats and on occasion a bonus squirrel. I had 3 tunnels made from spare bricks and would move the traps about weekly to suit. When the chicken run went I consigned them to the potting shed with the mole traps.

I saw some designs where you put a trap either side and bait in the middle, but wondered if the fenn trap going off might set off the other fenn trap?

Worked fine. Left a 4 inch gap or there abouts.

I would polish the trigger and hook mating surfaces with a bit of fine wire wool. Mice are a tad light for Fenn traps.

The trigger indeed is not sensitive enough.

Even when the plate is fully pressed down, it’s not enough to set the trigger off.

I assume I need to take a file to the brass trigger part and make it a bit shorter?

Saw the rat / another rat in the garden today.

Either same one (I missed) or another one. I reckon another one though as not been seen for several days (had the trail camera out).

Assume it’s one from the same nest that’s taken up the routine of his former companion?

The fenn trap plate goes right down to the bottom without triggering (useless).

Have added 2 black cat traps which my mate uses up his stables, which he says are brilliant!

Where there is one rat you can bet your bottom dollar there will be others.  Shorten the length of that Fenn trigger a bit then set and trigger it a few times (with a stick) and adjust accordingly. Triggering it under load will help polish the surfaces - call it running in. I always either buried my traps or left them outside to weather for a while prior to using them.

Yes I thought there would be more but the suggestion about the wood mouse made me wonder.

Shorten with a file?
