BobbyH
Hey all! What differences (if any apart from length) are there between a 26 inch barrel and a 28 inch barrel for a .410 multi choke??
oldypigeonpopper
Hello, Being multi choke i cannot see any difference, had the chokes been fixed they may have been a difference in patterns with a 410 with 26/28 inch barrels, Are you talking about a single or double barrel ???, O/U. zipdog
26 inch is better. There is an obsession with long barrels and they are better for high birds. But for 99% of you shooting 26 inch will be better.
enfieldspares
The muzzle blast and noise is further away from the ear in a twenty eight inch barrel so you'll suffer less hearing damage. The weight will be nearer back to the centre of the gun in a twenty six inch barrel so, in theory, it should handle better. Having said that the old adage "the longer the barrel the nearer the bird" has a truth that (for some) twenty-eight inch barrels just "work" better than do twenty-six inch barrels. Best thing to do really is try both and see what suits you best. It may be one it may be the other. In terms of velocity in a shotgun? With modern powders the difference will be of little difference at all in practical terms. For a child twenty-six inch barrels will assuming they weigh less than the same gun with twenty-eight inch barrels make it easier to handle..especially of the stock is cut down for the child. Ultrastu
The 28 inch will be a touch quieter than the 26 .especially if your putting a silencer on the end .then again the 28 will push the silencer further away making it more front heavy . Recoil can be slightly higher on the shorter barrel too .due to less weight out front .and more muzzle flip . Basically .I your gonna put a silencer on the end get as short as you can .and if not buy the longer barrel .

Gunman
What ever you like .But why anyone would need multi chokes in a 410 is beyond me .
Fellside
I have been using my sons’ youth 410 o/u with a short stock and 26” barrels. I’m surprised at how easy it is to shoot with. It doesn’t fit me at all, but I can make it work by mounting it in a certain way. Normally I would prefer 30” barrels - as I have on my 12 bore sporter, but for some reason it’s a very agreeable gun to shoot with in its short barrel form. If I were putting my sensible hat on though, and buying a dedicated 410 for me, it would be a 28”, as it would have a little more momentum in the swing. Re the multi choke aspect. I have found 410s to be choke sensitive - a little is all that’s needed. Too much blows patterns, especially with magnums. With multis you can pick and choose. The fixed 410 chokes typically tend to be severe. If fixed I would have them opened to about 6 thou’ and no more. There’s my two penneth for what it’s worth. I hope you enjoy the 410 as much as I have, good luck.
