amateur
Prompted by marsh man's and ditchman's reminiscences in the Blackberry thread, I thought that I would kick this off. I was in my early 20s, at a party in Germany, missing my girlfriend and the frauleins, invited by my German host, weren't any substitute. A litre bottle of Chivas Regal had been plonked before me, I couldn't follow any of the German conversation around me, so, before very long, I had necked about half of it. I was told that my German had improved tremendously before I passed out. All I remember was being very, very sick later, not waking up until the following afternoon and the colossal headache that lasted forever. One good thing came out of it, though. As soon as I got back home, I proposed to my girlfriend and we've clocked up 50 years. Never touched Chivas since.
JohnfromUK
I am perhaps lucky (or maybe unlucky in some people's eyes), but my stomach gives out well before my head. Too much alcohol - and it is rapidly 'cleared out'. In consequence I rarely have a 'hangover' - and as I know know both my limits and the 'warning signs' that they are being approached - I can enjoy time out and being in decent running order the following day. TIGHTCHOKE
Spent 4 nights on the pop while away in Gloucestershire for the Airshow. No hangovers at all, pays to drink good quality alcohol.

marsh man
When I was about 17 the builders I worked for had a Christmas party , I say party but the party was a tour around the local pubs , I had very little knowledge when it came to drinking beer and sprits and somehow I was still standing at the end of the night , the last port of call was a meal at the Savoy in Yarmouth , sitting down the drink was catching up with me and I had to go the loo , I remember shutting the door and was violently sick and what seemed like ages my workmates came to see how I was getting on , they managed to open the door and there was a tidal wave of sick that came gushing out to meet them , they took me home with my bit of steak all wrapped up in a bit of paper , my brother was non to pleased as I had borrowed his suit and it was more expense with getting it cleaned , that night out taught me a lesson , but when you are young the lesson didn't last long before I had broke it again , and again , and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Then several years ago I was sometimes working late and using my car everyday so we very rarely went into pubs , the odd drink at home got less and less and after a while I didn't even miss having a drink , nowadays , apart from a pint of shandy at the shoots dinner I haven't touched another drink now for a good many years and that was the same with cigarettes , although I haven't smoked now for around 40 years , come to think of it , I ain't got hardly any bad habits apart from spending to much time on P / W

gmm243
The last tine I had a lot of drink of a Sat night I was still feeling rough on the Tuesday morning. I have now only had 2 pints in the last 12 months and no wine/spirits and to be honest I don't mind it at all. When I was younger I used to be on the drink every weekend but as I am now nearly 50 it has lost a lot of its appeal. I was at an 80's disco last Sat night and was driving some of my friends. My over all feeling was that of smugness as my friends were all hammered and I knew I was going to feel grand in the morning whereas they were definitely not.
