the bog oak ones look superb..................

Thank you Simon 👍

The bog oak pen was very nice to turn, and I have more of the premium pen kits in chrome trim to make, with the remaining cut pieces of bog oak.

I think the chrome will be a nice contrast against the black of the bog oak.

The bog oak pen in the photo has an antique gold pen kit, as used in your pen 👍

Very nice must be a satisfying hobby turning blocks of wood into lovely pens

Thanks, and yes it’s nice to see the shape change as you turn the wood, and the grain pattern pop out, once sanded and polished.

All of your pens look really great.

I`ve decided after visiting Bushwakka yesterday (see my post in Off Topic) to have a go at pen turning so may well have to pick your brains further Kevin.

Bushwakka already has inspired me to have a go and given advice on the kit to get, plus I`m always in awe of your pens, so cannot wait to have a go, but no doubt I`ll have a few mishaps along the way.

Will be ordering the mandrel etc later in the week and will be using Zebrano first off as I just like the grain of it. I too have found Ash to  be a little bland but note your good use of the burnt effect to give it character.

Keep up with your excellent posts as I`m intrigued to see how you progress with the use of antler for the pens.

Hi, this is your DPD driver again. We tried to deliver today between 0700 and 0900 but no-one was home, so we will try to deliver it again in 2 days time. If no-one is in next time, I will lob the package over your side gate/fence ! 🤪🤓😂

Finished off the wooden pens yesterday and have a selection of acrylic blanks to make up into pens.

I made a start this evening on one of the blanks and will finish tomorrow allowing for the glue to harden.

The acrylic blanks are quite vibrant, and looking forward to seeing, how they look made up as finished pens.

I haven’t been able to finish the acrylic pen blanks off to date, as I’m awaiting a delivery of new carbide tips.

The acrylic blanks are a very hard material, and have turned them previously with standard chisels, but I will wait for the tips to arrive and is a lot easier to turn and possibly no mishaps.

I purchased last week different pen kits to try out and received a set of 3 bushes with them.

The bushes supplied with the kits, make hard work of an easy job, so I went looking on a different site and found a 4 piece bush set  to suit.

The bushes arrived this morning and I tried them out on the pen below and it made it a lot quicker and easier and no faffing around changing this and that.

I like these new pen kits and are easy to turn and make and will order more in the coming weeks 👍

I believe that could have been A.W.Towler (Albert I think his name was) 1785631351_sticks1-05-19005.jpg.034199318726475fff231edf360daff1.jpg

as I bought a bog oak stick from him at the Fenland Fair a few years ago.

Finished off the last of the trial pen kits I received last week and my first impressions are, they are a very nice kit to turn and make up and look good.

They don’t have a Parker style ink refill, but nevertheless the pen is nice to hold and write with and has a good weight.

I will definitely be ordering more of this style of twist ballpoint pen kits 👍

Just received my two pens this morning. I am very impressed. Aside from the brilliant finish, they were well packed and came with a plastic case and soft case.

Thanks Gordon 👍

I’m pleased they arrived safely and you like them 😀👍
