Rewulf
I'm over there early November, staying near Disneyland. Anyone ever used a pay and shoot style range there? Looking for recommendations 😃
BobbyH
I have just come back from Orlando, and I went to Shooters World, for 100 rounds of 9mm and the VIP treatment because I shot alone, the Mrs didn’t shoot as she had open toe shoes on and a vest, not a T-shirt, it cost me $90ish. Feel free to PM if you want any info on it
owain
We went to the shooting gallery a couple of years ago when we were in Florida. Would recommend it, really helpful friendly staff. Edited October 17 by owain

claydodger
It's been a long while since we went to Orlando but one of the best things we did was go to a shooting range, can't remember if it was the same place but it was brilliant, great welcome, atmosphere, layout and oodles of things to shoot with. BobbyH
Shooters world where I went, had so many things you can shoot and look at. Not much shotgun stuff, but bought a few plastic ammo boxes back for cheap! I first used a glock 17, which I’m pretty used to, and then an Sig P226 with red dot sights. great times! Remember to wear a T-shirt as a minimum and closed toe shoes! And take your passports.
Jaymo
Plus many places require a minimum of two of you due to ‘ahem’, incidences of self harm.

That’s true, but then the range I went to gave me the ‘VIP’ deal, which mean I can shoot alone, but have one of the staff stand and watch as a range officer and ‘a second person’
Jaymo
I have been to this one a few times as a ‘solo’ shooter. In 2004 three of us shot at the 'Shooting Gallery Range' indoor range in Orlando, we shot glocks, 45's, 50 cals and semi auto rifles, we spent about three hours and shot hundred of rounds. If I recall, the cost was around 140 dollars each, albeit the majority of the rounds were shot from the lesser calibres than the semi auto rifle and took it in turns with each firearm. Back then the exchange rate was superb. We went back again in 2008 and was still very good value. Found the staff extremely helpful. +1 for Jaymo

We rent a vehicle when there for 3 weeks, last went in 2023, however, for a short stint before a cruise you will find Ubers efficient and very reasonable, we have used them before a cruise for a few days. Our children (now age mid 20 ish ) sometimes use them to travel from the villa to the parks or the malls as it gives me the odd day off from driving. Thanks, Im lead to believe that parking at say Magic Kingdom is around $30 a day, the cost of an Uber there and back from our hotel ? 7daysinaweek
We stay about 15-20 mins away from the parks, if I recall, my daughter said it was around 30 dollars from the villa and back, that was in Apr 2023. The parking charges soon add up, we budget quite a few hundred for parking and not something to be forgotten.

SxS
I usually go to ranges whenever I’m on holiday in the US. Ones close to tourist areas don’t often allow solo shooters but like many places in the UK, it’s attitude that counts. if you want to spend a decent amount of time and shoot a few different guns take your own eye protection / ear defenders / SGC and/or FAC as government issued ID. Immediately differentiates you from a tourist who has never even seen a gun close up (I’ve been at ranges and seen range staff never leave the side of those, which is how it should be). Worth reminding them that we don’t get to shoot handguns in the UK, tends to usually result in a quick refresher of how to check clear, load mag, operate safety, etc. If it doesn’t then just ask. I’ve had times when I’ve checked in, asked to start with a 9mm handgun and it’s basically been gun, mag, box of ammo dropped in a tray and “range is that way, have fun!” and it’s not cause any awkwardness when a refresher has been requested Tell them what you want to shoot and they’ll usually oblige. Some will let you check a gun out, shoot a bit, swap for another. Some will run a tab for ammo, watch out it can soon stack up. The more touristy ones are more likely to offer a package, some of which can be fun but slightly sobering when you shoot ARs and the such like, see what they can do, and start to wonder if civilians should really have them. That’s a different debate though. Last time I did it in Orlando, a few years ago, was at The Armories. If is was going back I’d see if they were still in business. HantsRob
Side note, I want to shoot in the UAE, but it's going to be £100+ for 50 clays and carts. OUCH!
Poor Shot
We went to the shooting gallery last time we were in Orlando. It looks quite rough and intimidating from the outside being located next to a few bail bond shops but the people inside were as nice as can be. Simply walked in, explained we would like to shoot and that I shoot shotguns, rifles etc at home and away we went after signing some forms and handing over passports as ID. From memory we used a glock of some sort to warm up with and had quite some time with a sig M4/AR lookalike type rifle. Other than a brief explanation of how each gun worked, safety catch locations, mag release etc we were left to our own devices when in the range room. There were other shooters as well as a range officer present. Dad had only ever shot a shotgun before and only once so it was quite an experience for him. I remember ammo costs being quite reasonable as well compared to the UK. A box of 25 5.56 was certainly a lot cheaper than a box of 20 .223 in the UK. 9mm were dirt cheap and I reckon we were still paying tourist pricing. It was one of the cheaper ways to spend a morning in Orlando when compared to the cost of entry to the parks. 16 minutes ago, HantsRob said: Side note, I want to shoot in the UAE, but it's going to be £100+ for 50 clays and carts. OUCH! Thats probably not too different from rocking up to the likes of Barbury or Ian Coleys without an SGC and having a caddied round of 50 targets. We hired a minibus when we were there a couple of years ago as there were 2 families. We also used Ubers to get about if we were doing different things or were having a few beers. One thing I would say though, depending on when you are going is look at the weather on the day. A couple of times we got stuck relying on Ubers in almost tornado conditions which wasn’t exactly fun. If the weather is going to be dodgy then take the car. On 22/10/2024 at 08:59, Poor Shot said: We went to the shooting gallery last time we were in Orlando. That’s where we went as well, the guy picked up on the benelli cap straight away. After a quick demo from the guy behind the counter me and the boy were away to the range. 2x handguns and an automatic AR. Really good fun and a good atmosphere 👍.
