samboy
Hi gang. In my kitchen there is a bowl of clean water which is changed every day but the dog hardly touches it. But when i let her out she runs straight up to a bowl which is full of leaves and rain water and the bottom of the bowl is green and laps it up. I can't understand it. Any logic in this ?. Thanks all.
old'un
Do you have hard water? perhaps she likes old water, as she always been like that? Mind you having asked those questions I have seen dogs drink some of the foulest water around the farm yard when I used to do a lot of beating. scarecrow243
you may have high levels of chlorine in your tap water and the smell is putting your dog off drinking it

She is a 3 yr old rescue dog so i don't know what type of water she was drinking before i got her. Perhaps if i buy a water filter it might help. 7daysinaweek
We have noticed that our tap water here has changed in the last few months, this may sound odd but it is 'lighter' on the tongue, less clear and has more of a metalic taste. Several of us in the household have noticed this. Edited December 9 by 7daysinaweek

I would buy a bottle of water and she if she drinks it, if she does it must be something in your tap water that she does not like, water filter may help with taste but do they remove odours? Sweet11-87
use to put a touch of milk in the dogs bowl when we were worried he wasn't drinking enough. bowl held about a pint and a splash about what youd put in a dark cup of tea into a bow that held about a pint and a half so really nothing and hed empty the bowl. we have/had very hard water
Robden
My friend's dog has "special" water. Water from the tap is a no, no. Water from the "special" bottle (the same water), gets drunk.
Dougy
Our Lab Buster is exactly the same, he hardly ever drinks from a bowl of freshly poured water from the tap, but we all know full well how amazing their sense of smell is, so any additives are 1000 times more noticeable to them. He will drink it if its raining to save his hair getting wet, but doesn't like it and drinks very little, and very tentatively. The other Lab Harley couldn't give a monkeys, he leaves the bowl with a mouth full of water dribbles all over the place needed to follow up with a mop. I have an Oak barrel water feature with a small pump with water coming out of a copper pipe, he drinks out of that through the day.

My dog does drink from the bowl but also drinks from a bowl in the garden that has rainwater in.
