ph5172
Long and short. Stone thrown up and chip to the screen. Repair offered via insurance using autoglass just been done and I’m not convinced. it could possibly be due to having worked 3 nights in a row and getting home to stay awake to wait up for the repair. I know it would never be invisible but Anyone in the business that could offer an opinion. Top before bottom after
TIGHTCHOKE
I would have hoped for a better result. Have had various small repairs over the years and that looks poor.
steve_b_wales
That doesn't look like a professional job to me, and it could be a risk of it cracking even further.
Red carp
Why not just pop into a MOT garage & ask for advice. But as the other members commented I agree it don’t look the best.
London Best
I have had several done and the latest one is still visible from both inside and outside of the screen. MOT man says it’s fine, but it catches my eye whilst driving if I shift my focus to the screen, not if I am looking well ahead.
ph5172
Thanks for the replies. I had one done years ago and I must have been lucky as I could hardly see it maybe not as lucky this time but I suppose it’s now ‘secure’ I have e mailed autoglass for some advice. I was trying to avoid a whole screen replacement as it’s full of sensors and such and I just didn’t want the hassle of that - maybe I should have just gone down that route. I have read my insurance properly and they will cover a repair / replacement at an non approved (not autoglass) repairer with a slightly higher contribution so I may just use the dealer (like I probably should have done to begin with if I had read the cover properly) I will await autoglass response

But as the other members commented I agree it don’t look the best. Because all an MoT garage will tell you is if it will pass an MOT test. Whereas the OP, presumably, is concerned about the repair holding and the crack propagating. Personally, I’d have a read of the warranty, if any, Autoglass provide. And if the crack does start to propagate, get them back.
JohnfromUK
I have had two done - both by Autoglass, both on insurance. The first was around 10 years ago. Afterwards car was in my hands for another 9 years and no spread whatsoever, although after being done the chip looked just as bad as it had before (it was outside main area and not distracting as all you saw through it was the bonnet surface). The second was about a year ago (different car). It was so successful can't even see where it was after it was done. Technician said at the time he was really pleased as sometimes they do just 'disappear' as mine had, other times they look almost as bad afterwards ....... but generally don't spread. I had a chip repaired on my last car , terrible job ( not by auto glass) I took it back next morning and the chap done it again while I went shopping , came back and it was slightly better but I was never happy with it although it passed the M O T with no problem . Old Boggy
I know people often criticise Halfords but I had them do a chip and they made a good job of it. Initially rang Autoglass who promised to ring back and didn’t. Then went to their nearest depot and was told that I had to ring their main number. Same thing, said that they would ring back within 2 hours and no phone call. That’s when I tried Halfords nearest shop who did it within the hour. The young lad said that they use the same equipment as Autoglass but charge much less. I think Autoglass hike the price up as they know most are insurance jobs.
