Guest The Outlaw
I have to do mine tomorrow night, been shooting today. Nothing fancy just the dangling bulbs to look like icicles. Tony
myuserid
Just have a Christmas tree in the corner of the sitting room, the village goes way over the top with lights, everyone seems to compete who has the biggest and brightest lights. To be honest it looks awful, dread to think what the tourists say! I wont be back home until the 22nd so no decs for me yet

Yellow Bear
All decorations are banned until the Sunday before Xmas eve ( would have made it Xmas eve as per tradition only beaten 2 to 1 into submition) They come down on 12th night without fail. That is more than enough - as for outside no chance Bah humbug D
tosspot
Local radio DJ got threats big time the other year for lambasting tacky outside illuminations "Oooh look, Santa in a speedboat"
jerico
Nothing outside but we have a couple up at the window, plus the usual tinsel around the room that falls down every 10 minutes and gets tangled with the ceiling decorations that the dog chase's and knocks over the tree. Earliest they go up is 12 days before and latest coming down is 12 days after.

Guest The Outlaw
Outside lights are a bit working class aren't they? I'm working class because I have to work But the small amount of lights are for the kids only, they will go when the kids dont ask for them, saving me getting up the ladder in foul weather. The over the top lighting up is another migrated idea from the USA. Like most tacky things it can only come from there. Sorry if I offend any of our cousins over the pond. Cranfield
"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". We will have our usual understated lights round the cottage eves and a couple of trees in the garden will be artistically lit up. Being in a remote area with no street lights and no neighbours , I am conscious of light pollution, but as my lights don't compete with any other lights, they look even more discreet. My nephew fills his front garden with Christmas figures that are blown up by air, I bet his neighbours are pleased when he turns the generator off at midnight. Axe
Nopel. It looks good when tastefully done and not over the top but all these tacky blow up animations and multi colured light displays with snowmen etc on are rediculous. We put ours up about 2 weeks before christmas and take them down as soon as the new year work load starts.

Dunkield
The small white or blue ones can look good. I wouldn't have them in my garden though of course 3 ten foot inflatable "Ho Ho Homer" Simpsons don't. We take detours to try to find the tackiest garden of them all a bit nearer Christmas, and it does seem to be street by street. From memory there were some absolute beuties on the chav scum site last year. Maybe an idea for a photo competition?
Dunkield
And whats wrong with working class? a snob in our midst me thinks. Working class isn't someone who goes out to work, it is a state of mind To save you asking, yes I am snob, but then you haven't met my missus
Guest The Outlaw
We have a chap in Steeple Claydon that turns his house into a Santa's Grotto and lights the whole garden and house with all Christmas lights, it looks over the top but he does it all for charity. Last Christmas we took our girls over there to see the switch on, the local radio station was there along with 300ish people all with thier children. The local brass band was there and collectivly they made the whole event a good community spirited evening There was free mince pies donated by the local tesco and sweets for the little ones. All in a good cause they raised over £1000. All paid for by Tiddler and his wife who are working class! Sometimes the effort that good people make to do something for the community is tarred with the same brush as the glory hunters and Chavs. Tony
