Guest cookoff013
i think the same could be achieved with 1,1/8oz loads with hodgdon longshot, those are serious boomers. i think the main noise is the volume of gas breaking the soundbarrier (as well as the shot.) boomers are fun for a while, i was lead to believe someone here tried them... strangford wildfowler
Last night I found a few in an old tin box which was full of old cartridges and there was a couple In the box so I ask my da could we go for a little hours wander about and he said yeah. So when we got there there was a few pigeons flying about and in went some baikel number 5s and down came on very high pigeons the highest one ive ever shot and there was some mess in the barrels of my game gun. When I broke the gun and took the cartridges out my da asked what cartridges were they and when I told him they where baikel carts he said no wonder I hit such a high pigeon. They really are a hard hitting case
Dan.lord
These were the first cartridges I ever fired, brought them from budget guns & tackle in Colchester , mid 80's if I remember correctly. I also brought my first shotgun from them, also a Baikal s/s, £94.00 brand new still got it , never let me down, must have fired 1000's of them through it, Black cases, Record No 7 I rekon going by the pics posted. As said a massive thump to the shoulder & huge cloud of smoke oh plenty of 4x2 cleaning cloths afterwards I remember the local farmers son coming over & asking us what we were using, so i let him try a few, well one anyway, as he gave the others back and walked off in disgust rubbing his shoulder Might still have some at my brothers, I'll have to ask ... lol happy days
norfolk dumpling
Inconsistent loads I recall. Occasionally you would get what appeared to be a double hit of powder and a very sore shoulder. Plus barrels looked as if you had poured oil and soot down them. Cheap though. Better forgotten about. lampa
Used to use them all the time many moons ago because they were as cheap as chips, weren't they distributed by Budget Guns and Tackle / Sportsmarketing somewhere down in Kent? I used to remember seeing the ad in shooting times every week with the selection of Baikal guns they had on offer.
Dan.lord
I got mine from budget guns in Colchester, go by sportsman marketing now I think. As you say cheap as chios, which was good going by the amount we got through. Poor ole shoulder took a beating though :-)
Westley
A bloke I used to shoot with at Worsley was given a load of very old Baikal cartridges by an old boy that lived near him. We tried a few out at Worsley one day and they were unbelievable. They nearly knocked you onto your Harris and there was a huge belch of yellowish smoke and a vile stink Couldn't even see if we'd hit anything, it was a right pea souper Deafening as well - sounded like a bomb going off. We were told that if we persisted with them, we would be escorted from the ground    Do not know why, the Owners Father used thousands of them after the Eley explosion, it was all we could get. Westley
As I write this, I am looking at three of the wooden boxes that these cartridges were packed in. The boxes were the best bits really, very strong wooden things. The labels on the side refer to Millard Brothers, 30 Wates Way, Mitcham, Surrey, I believe they were also importers. Roy King
I remember these cartridges very well! In the early 70's I was a teenager very very keen on shooting. I took a Sunday morning job at my local clay shoot as a trapper ( yes in the days when people manually fired off the clays fo someone to shoot at.) The Great Linford clay shooting club, used to pay 10/- for a Sunday morning(50p to you young ones) or you could have a box of 10 baikal cartridges in a nice little box . We could use them last thing when the customers had gone, before we packed up for the day. Oh the noise..... Oh the smoke...... And ouchhhh!!!!! The pain??? The good old days don't you just wish they would come back ??
Vince Green
Back in the day they were sold in my local sports shop. You wouldn't find that happening now! and I could buy them as a sixteen year old with no licence.

clayboster
mmm aint shot them for many a year, shoulder bruisers, and also capable of making your prize beretta into a blunderbuss, hard hitting, quite inconsistant cartridges with a giant primer that looks like a 9mm rimmy has wedged inside it, ive heard they are now banned becuase of this....good ridance,! but if you like being "bullied" by these beasts and you are fortunate to find them ,then good on ya.
