ShaggyRS6
See the Deer Hunter review below in my Sig, I also second the full camo set from www.arcticoutdoor.co.uk,. Outstanding gear at a very good price.
HeadShotHoncho
As shaggy said. I got a deerhunter camo jacket off a mate for christmas, I haven't used it yet as I need to get some decoys. It is very realistic and is not too thick. The good thing is that because it is not too thick it is thin enough to use in the summer and is relatively warm by itself and can easily fit a fleece and a thermal skin or top underneath. Great kit but not cheap in someplaces and you will have to look around (internet reccomended) to get a good deal. Cheap camo is easily to get hold of on a site that rymes with fleabay If you search for NBC suit (tip found somewhere else on this site) then there is mod stuff for £10-£15 :o but it is never as good as deer hunter. You can't go wrong with deerhunter, best camo apart from maybe gillie but that makes you look like some type of bog monster My brother thought it was a monster armed with an M60 when there was an ad in gunmart Edited February 11, 2008 by HeadShotHoncho
luckytrigger
Imo issue goretex is pretty poor having no pockets ,cra**y elasticated cuffs and is made of bargain basement el cheapo 'goretex' and is pretty rustley especially dire when compared to the american forces issue goretex kit. Ive had both and still wear the american kit although the woodland cammo pattern isnt to everybodys taste. Ive yet to come across a decent waterproof jacket that is really waterproof in a heavy downpour...
666shaft
I got the Deerhunter Ram jacket and trousers in the new APG pattern and they're superb, have been out in some very cold weather with just a t shirt under the coat and nothing under the trousers and not been remotely cold. Have to agree with you there, I've been shooting for the past 50-odd years and have yet to find a jacket that keeps you dry after a day in the rain on the foreshore. Anything with seams has to leak, anything plastic is waterproof, but gets you just as wet with perspiration. I'll take your advice and have a look at the USA gore-tex, if my contact still works at Lakenheath!
Hotrod
hi guys, it seem to me you are trying to get every thing in one jacket ! when it's cold & wet I wear a very warm winter Twill that is totally water & wind proof that is still breathable, and on a sunny day a cotton shirt & pants is ideal. I think the important thing is the Colour of the Camo. Most stuff available is an American pattern & unless you are stalking Woodchuck in a Maple forest, you will look like a pair of curtains! The best Camo pattern I've found for shooting in the UK is the Aston Camouflage, it's much more green. Look at the gallery on the dechasse web site http:// www.dechasse.co.uk/gallery.html
76Lincoln
go for a musto stalkers jacket, i got mine last august on sale from john norris £89 total bargain, paid £79 for matching trousers, unfortunatley the jackets are back up in price but quality garment, light, warm and will keep out the wet, i think i got mine so cheap as end of line and they only had medium left but would not think twice about paying £180 or whatever they go for now!!! caeser
Try checking out Cabela's. There is some quality stuff from there, and even including postage to UK it's cheaper than over here for the quality.
anser2
Just replaced my quilted waterproof realtree hardwoods jacket made by Total fishing gear for the same yesterday for £21.00 off ebay + £5.75 P&P. ( the RRP is £79.00 ) Thats £9.00 cheaper than the first cost jacket me 4 years ago. Only replacing it because i shut the zipper in the car door and scrunched it up. I cannot fault this breathable jacket in any way wearing it around 100 days a year for shooting. Edited March 5, 2008 by anser2
