Digging through all our old photo's and came across this one of a bushpig, was only a young boar, but cause he was wounded the little ****** charged, well he tried to any way. The last shot was in the forhead (RIP little pork and leek beauty), and from the .44 the whole head neck, into the forequarters was all shoked/pulverised into jelly.

Don't know if I bored anybody, but just thought it would be differant from the usual photo's of tree rats etc.

sorry revolver was S&W 6" SS 44magnum

Great photo's ;) ........For some insane reason hunting wild pigs with a couple of dogs armed only with a bowie knife I find quite appealing :yp:

Bowie knives are to bulky try one of these.

Aircraft aluninum handle to a stainless steal blade that is 8 1/4 inches long.

The sheath is also aluninum, and attatches with a button hole stud.

Is a WWII Enfield Bayonet.

P.S. anybody know how to get the blade oil and coffee out of the cushion before Trix gets home :D:no:

Nice photos, although you dont look quite right in the first one. Cant quite put my finger on what it is.

Yeah I know, I was a bit yellow in the face.

If I remember correctly now, this bushpig's rump was full of gorges that were rotten, and we could only presume it was cause he was starting to look at the other sow's with a glint in his eye, the herd boar must of had enough, and fought the young un out.

NTTF, one for you, do you know how these bushpigs used to kill the dogs in one swipe. The best dogs for em was fox terriers, cause they would yap and not go in, sort of corner the pig, where as I remember a massive rotty my one farmer mate used to have, used to live on the locals trying to break in, fat as a buff, got ripped open by a boar in a heartbeat, we were gutted.

You will see anybody that is a serious pig catcher useing a chest and neck protector on their catch dogs. Best ones are kevlar so that the boars tusks glance along instead of cutting in severing the main arteries and wind pipe on the dogs. Alot of good dogs have died to pigs, mind you, alot of good bear and couger hounds have died to those as well. It is a tough game where mistakes are not forgiven lightly.

The problem with dogs and pigs is size of dog , big dogs get killed really easy by pigs because they have body mass and weight and as the pig slashes this mass and weight resists against the boars tusks , resulting in open dog!!Small yappy , biting terrier type dogs , the more the better is the way forward, they get cut but very seldome do you loose one to tusks,.

My experience............with what you Canadian and American guys would call pure Russian Boar.

I Love Boar spears. That is the one way I still want to hunt them. Boar Spear on horse back.

I have hunted them with 12ga. slugs, 6.5 x .55, archery, Pistol, and hounds on horseback. But I am thinking boar spear on horse back may just offer some fun and excitement. :good:
