Anyone else been buzzed by a red helicopter?!

Was out in the field today looking for pigeons (without much success due to the wind!) so decided to sit down for a bit next to the huge rabbit warren we have to see if anything pops up.

5 minutes past as I enoyed the scenery and fresh air when I heard a helicopter in the distance. Just sat there watching it and then noticed it was flying my direction with its search light on (its middle of the day!). It was low level and was pelting along! It then flew overhead and did a U turn behind the trees where I couldnt see it. Was a red helicopter and being in Devon I asssumed it was the air ambulance so stood up and decided to walk back to the house to get a better view. It then came over the trees just hovered there looking at me!! Couldnt see any air ambulance writing on it and it wasnt a police helicopter as it didnt have a huge camera underneath. It then just decided to circle the field at low level.

By this time I'm back near the house and putting the shotgun in its sleeve (which was in the car on the drive). The heli during this time circled round to in front of the car as if to get a better view of it and to note the registration plate!! I just finished putting the gun away and took it into the house to get the binoculars but by the time I'd come out again a minute later the heli had gone. It then flew past at speed over the house a few minutes later and that was that!!

We live in the middle of nowhere with the nearest town miles away and the nearest neighbour about half a mile away. Cant have been a police helicopter as it wasnt blue and yellow. Can only think it was the devon air ambulance being nosey (but I couldnt see the writing on the side saying air ambulance) or a power company looking at hte power lines after the high winds (although we dont have a powercut!!).

Theories please! I reckon the government is after me and I'm now awaiting the swat team!!!

Might of been a nosey pilot.

My friend flies a helicoptor and he needs to do a minimum amount of hours

flying a month to keep his licence current. It costs a fortune to fly a helicopter

(my friend is lucky the owner is rich and uses it as a toy) so I can't think it

is a cost effective way of checking up on lone shooters.

Cheers taz.

I was out one night night on one of my plots of land lamping the foxes, had two in the lamp when up pops the police heli (I shoot right next to a motorway) it went round us 5 times with the IR on, it must have been obvious what we were doing.. two guys in a field late at night and 150 yards away two animals.....

anyway, once he went we popped the lamp back on and guess what.... not a fox to be seen!

It was probably a mate of mine.....Hes doing all of the power lines in Devon and Cornwall at the moment, checking for tress that have broken in the latest storms. He's exempt from the 1,500 foot rule and his birds bright red, so I guess it was him.

What a coincidence!

We were shooting on Friday in Cambridge and as we were walking to the car to pack up for the day I noticed a police helicopter hovering over our field. thought nothing of it then noticed it again as we left the farm. Definitely followed us for 15-20 miles on the way back to London, flying to one side of us keeping up then the other side.

We thought we were going to run into a barricade with armed police, but then it just veered off and we didn't see it again.....

Strange

A few months back Baz (Evil Elvis) and myself were at one of our shoots, Baz was zeroing his rimmy on the range and I had the shotgun for any flyovers, a small private heleflopter flew over us low enough that I could see the pilot was wearing sun glasses, I broke the barrel until he had past and we carried on after calling him a few choice words for scaring anything and everything away, about 5 minutes later 2 fully kitted out Chinook choppers flew towards us side by side and thankfully carried on over us and into the distance.

If ever there was ever a list of reasons for acceptable brown trousers then that has be up there!

Nah the red one I saw had a large red fin around the rear roter. Looks exactly like the devon air ambulance. Nothing ever came of it though so who knows!

Out of interest, why were the armed resoponse looking for you? Had someone reported seeing you did they say? Seems such a waste of police time!
