The Burpster
Nearly bought an older Landy for shooting but 3 lots of tax insurance and MOT did it for me ( I ahve a bikke as well you see), so 4 years ago leapt in part ex'd teh car and bought a new Jeep Cherokee (Liberty really!). A little thirsty, but superb reliable and I stilll have it, that speaks volumes for me... Only been stuck once (pulled it out with a tractor), but it has pulled out lots of others and is a great allround car. Thuroghly recommend it! Tarlair
I have a 2002 Freelander 1.8 GS. Would have preferred the TD but the price was within what I wanted to spend. Used to have a Tata Safari 2 litre Diesel. Very basic but a good reliable motor.

deer stalker
You cann't go wrong with a a Land rover discovery big, tough, ruged, and with all terains tyies it will go any were (the old ones and not the new panel vans!) but the TD5 engines are a bit doggy it not the engine it's the bit with it like electronics but ether a 200 or 300 TDI or if your rich enough to run a V8 go for it! lurcherboy
Got to agree with the last two posts despite the fact my TD5 hasn't let me down but that TDi engine is unbeatable LB

Harnser
Disco td5 a proper car .Very good on road as well as of road .Landrover is an icon that all the others try to copy .If you are going to buy a 4x4 than dont worry to much about m.p.g. or service costs ,they are all expensive to run ,you have to go into 4x4 ownership with your eyes open and your wallet open . I have owned a 4x4 for the last 25 years and have never regretted it once . My disco averages 30 to the gallon ,and on a run from norfolk to northamptonshire i once averaged 36 to the gallon .
