sunshinedave
What sort of groupings are you guys getting? First time I've really given the HMR a good bashing the other day out with the targets and rangefinder to zero my new scope, and It'd be my first outing since fitting my Brooks trigger kit (2nd lightest spring) and floating the barrel. It was a gusty day (gusting 15ish), so I started at 35yards. Had it zerod at 35yards in 5 groups (5 round groups), and they were falling mostly ontop of each other, ragged holes. Moved it out to 100yards and the groups were all about 2inches high, with a grouping of about 1.5-2", at this point I was down to 3 rounds groups! (ammo fast running out!) It was windy and I was shooting into wind, and at 100m I am aware that the HMR is a bit limited! So I didn't adjust to correct for the zero, but I'll leave it as is and try to get out next week if theres a still day, and I will get a new batch of ammunition, Federals I think. What sort of group sizes are you guys getting with your HMRs at 100yards? Will report further when I get chance to go out with no wind. Would the wind (shooting into it) account for my apparent 2" high groups (from a 35yd zero)? Or should I be looking more closely at my technique (breathing?). Cheers
SPARKIE
should be able to get 1/2 inch at 100yrds on good day

silver_fox
I'm having the same problems with my new HMR. 60yd groups are fine but 100yd groups at 2". It does seem that the more rounds I put down the barrel the tighter the groups get. Should be pretty tight in a 1,000 rounds or so! Peter_HMR
zero at 43 yards and then again at 100yards and should be bang on. At 100yards should be an inch minimum for a .17 12 0'clock wind will shift the bullets vertical alright
Dead-Eyed Duck
i,m with sparkie my annie will nearly put them all in same hole at 100yards on a still day Should start target shooting then. My Annie will give 0.75" groups on average, and I've not come across one yet that will consistently better 0.5" at 100 yards. and yes, I have a decent scope and yes, I have tried 4 different brands of ammo Don

Unless anschutz.17hmr has found a batch of ammo thats been hand loaded. Factory ammo is not that good.

Dead-Eyed Duck
Sorry for the grumpy response, but there are a lot of people out there reading posts on here and believe every thing that they read. Hawkeye's group (in my experience) is as good as you can get. With the law of average's we can all probably claim to get a phenominal group now and then, but this is just down to chance. If there is someone out there that can get consistent touching groups, then would they please tell us what they are doing different . I have spent a small fortune on buying rounds with different names on the box (as hmr rounds are not cheap) in an attempt to get the best results, and there is very little difference. We have all read posts of someone head shooting rabbits at 180 yards with an hmr, and rubbed our chins in puzzlement...... In all seriousness perhaps we should organise a day at a range and I will happily put up £25 for someone who can put "Bullet on bullet" at 100 yards - three consecutive 5 shots groups being the rule. The downside is that if someone claims to be able to do this, then they have to put up the £25 for a few boxes of ammo for me to improve my accuracy if they fail. Don

Don And I will add £50 to your £25, so there's £75 for the first of you "one hole with a 17 at 100 yards" shooters to accept the challenge. anschutz.17hmr
missing the point guys i did say nearly, and hawkeyes group is not far off all touching, remember the guns are more accurate than us,some batchs of ammo will group well and some will put the odd flyer in,if anybodys tried stingers in a .22lr you,ll know that some are good and some are bxxxxxy useless we should all meet up like bob said and try them all out
