Df No it's not, I shot two muntjac with one bullet two years ago, the first bullet broke up in the chest, a piece of jacket came out and into the heart of the second one, both were dead when I reached them. Bullets frequently go straight through deer.

njc110381
If it was the same bullet it came out of the first deer at a nasty angle. I magine the same angle of departure if he was led prone with a small bank behind the deer. How big does a safe backstop have to be?
Dunkield
As Bob has rightly said they can exit at very strange angles. I was told by a stalker watching a red hind that I shot downhill at about 45 degrees that I missed it over the top - just as he said that, it then fell over stone dead. He saw the splash of the bullet behind it, but not the bullet strike, and assumed I had missed it That bullet must have exited 60 degrees up from where it entered. Backstops are very important things.
fallowbuck
High velocity bullets more than often exit deer. Thats why you should always make sure no other beasts are behind it and that you have a adequate backstop. Never shoot at animals on the skyline, as the bullet can go over the horizon and may hit whats over there. A woman was recently killed by a stray bullet from an army range , she was over 3 miles away, walking her dog !!!!!

Never mind, At least David Cameron isn't an anti.
Mungler
I would still rather sleep with David Cameron than Ann Widdecombe. Indeed, I would rather sleep with the 4 week old carcas of one the deer shot by David Cameron than Ann Widdecombe

gixer1
I once saw a Red shot by my father and on inspection it had 2 holes in one side, this was where the bullet had entered, ricochet'd and exited on the same side! apparently this is also common. bob300w
What, the possibility of sleeping with Anne? Sleeping is the easy bit, it's the waking up in the morning, looking at her and not being able to remember.....did I.......?
Wookie
NOOOOOOOOO! You two can stop that talk right now. It's bad enough even _thinking_ about what Mung suggested without you adding to it. I need to disinfect my mind now. Where's the vodka?

Garry. Wouldn't say that was common, as the bullet will nearly always exit with stalking size calibers, unless your using .22 centerfires for smaller deer.It can occur but more often the case is that the bullet has come apart and the shrapnel has whizzed around inside the beast and then exited! I had a batch of 150gn Speer Boat tails in .308 which did this. Contacted Speer and they advised only to use them at long range where the bullet energy has lessened i.e 300yds plus! Needless to say I went back to using spitzer bullets, after getting 3 exit holes on a Fallowbuck!

highseas
perhaps he dident see the other deer behind it?
