tom_0787
I am speachless. I have been pigeonb shooting on a 300 acre farm in dorset for abuot 2 years now. The farmer was relieved when when I first asked for permission as his crops were getting pounded by pigeons and crows. I go at least once a week and always phone before hand. I have just phoned him to see if it was alright to go up this afternoon and he has now informed me that he is now charging £10 a day for pigeon shooting. What a joke! I am the only person with permission on his land. Its not as if thigs are tight as he has just purchased an 08 plate range rover. Not happy
jonno 357
Greedy farmers. Tell him to shove it up his a... Always plenty of land to shoot over. When one door closes another will open Jonno
tom_0787
I hope so, going to spend the afternoon knocking on doors i think. Costs a fortune in fuel though.
Miroku Mike
Sounds to me he needs help funding his new toy. Take it on the chin for now Tom, and in the mean time be looking elsewhere. Similar thing happened to me and my mate. Turns out jealousy had reared its ugly head. Couple of fly by nites had been watching us. They then went and offered money to shoot it. Month or to later they had stopped going and he was on the phone to my mate. In the mean time we had two other permissions So it had done us a favour as we now have plenty. Good luck Tom Mike
tom_0787
Your right mike, this has really urged me on to find some more land. There is no way i am paying £10 to shoot his vermin. He must be having a laugh. Oh well. Cant decide weather to target Dorset or hampshire. My options are Ringwood, Christchurch, or the Wool/Wareham area. Miroku Mike
Think of it like this Tom. Shoot his land for £10 a pop or let it go for a couple of weeks. Ie save the shoot money put it in your car and search all your options. It will all come good bud. Good luck
410PHIL
Cheeky ******* tell him to stick it up his a**e and put the money in your motor,He'll soon be on the phone when he's sat watching the pigeons nailing his crop and there is no one there to sort it. Then When he rings you ask him to put £10 towards your cartridges and see what he says then..
Brisa
Best thing you could do is just let his crop get ******** for a while and make sure he has your number for when he is looking your assistance!

Yep then say it will cost him £10 for you to shoot his land
Cranfield
I wouldn't tell him to stick anything, anywhere. Just be polite and leave things as they are. If his little venture doesn't work, you may want to be able to seek permission from him in the future. That won't be possible if you are abusive. Don't burn your bridges. agusta
I have just phoned him to see if it was alright to go up this afternoon and he has now informed me that he is now charging £10 a day for pigeon shooting. Sounds like he is diversifying
MC
Is £10 a day unreasonable? If you were in his position and could make a few quid out of it I am sure you would. If I could find a farmer around near me that would let me shoot pigeons for £10 a day I would bite his arm off.
winchester
This has a familier ring to it wasnt that long ago when a BASC rep on here surgestid paying for pigeon shooting
Imperfection
Don't burn your bridges. This is what i thought too.Unreasonable yes,but i'd just sit tight, make sure he has your number and seek out other permissions.Chances are he'll wake up and realise its not on. urikastu
I wouldn't say anything, just take it onthe chin. seek other permissions in the mean time. There are some of us that still can't find anywhere to shoot in our own area, so we have to call onfam ily and friends

plinker
This has a familier ring to it wasnt that long ago when a BASC rep on here surgestid paying for pigeon shooting yes if i remember correctly basc suggested this idea of charghing for rough shooting to the farmers through farming magazines, is that ' the voice of shooting' not in my book. Miroku Mike
Didn't here that one !! It would never work, cmon what if someone told the tax man, Mind you im sure the farmer would be honest and declare his new income I can remember the stories my Dad told me of back in the day, when the farmers were given an allowance to give shooters money towards their cartridges. This used to be a Great country. Bring back the old days, i say
dodeer
If it is good shooting then pm me his number. £10 a day is nothing!!! Would be interested in his stalking too. P.S you wont find anything round wool/wareham, it is all tied up with stalking and/ or big estates.
Miroku Mike
£10 may not seem nothing for the sport we all love. But its more a loalty issue here, He has been shooting it for two years. If I was a farmer and had good reliable lads keeping me clear of vermin and causing me no bother, ie clean tidy and sensible, id be happy. If I had no permission i would obviously happily pay, but i would feel the same as Tom if this happened to me.
Edward
Greedy farmers. Tell him to shove it up his a... Always plenty of land to shoot over. When one door closes another will open Jonno Not all farmers are greedy , true farmers are the ones in n reg landies these "farmers" in their range rovers usually have a 'side' income. Miroku Mike
Could not agree more Edward All the Farmers i have had dealings with have treated me very well, and in return i never give them a problem, and always a nice drink at xmas. As you say dont tar everyone one with the same brush.
Mattw
If he is to charge for shooting there are certain legal things he must supply surely, Such as suitable facilities. Public liability insurance etc. if i recall this only kicks in if you are taking money from someone for providing a service, in this case the service would be letting you use his land. this would not apply if your doing it on a favour or without goods changing hands. peck
£10.00 a day sounds extreemly good value to me. it may stick in your craw a bit after having the shooting for free, but its up to you, you can either bite off your nose to spite your face and tell him to stuff it or you can pay the money, or you could offer to do some work for him, after all it is his farm which he has worked for and continues to maintain, you are just there as his guest. have you ever offered him anything you have shot? a cleaned rabbit a couple of dressed pigeons? even a bottle of something at xmas. dont forget its not all about YOU
