Lloyd90
Just wondering what you guys use when out lamping ? Are the ones that attack to the top of your rifle any good ? Im going to nip down my local RFD now and see if there open and see what lights they have Will get a few brands write them down and then come back and see what reviews I can get
JohnGalway
Yes they are. They save you "needing" a partner. They save that annoying moment as you're about to take a shot and the plonker with you moves/dims the lamp. For hunting with shotgun or rimfire rifle get a scope mounted Lightforce 140 Lance (you can get an underbarrel mount for the SG). For hunting with a centrefire rifle get the Lightforce 170 Striker, or if you own both/all rimfire/centrefire/shotgun get one with a dimmer as it'll save you buying two lamps. An amber filter is a useful thing to own if you intend going foxing in a heavily lamped area or one with lamp shy foxes.
magman
:o Just make sure you rewire it though
ozzy518
I use the scope mounted 140 on my rimmie...its the danglies for rabbitting and also use a red filter on it. I would agree that the wiring is naff.. it comes with a pants cigarette lighter typr attachment to the battery which was forever disconnecting.. a quick snip with the cutters and a bit of soldering solved that problem.. Dave-G
I mostly use a Deben Atom Tactical Lamp/flip up filter with a heavy duty butt mounted nicad pack that provides more light for longer periods than the standard pack. It has a remote on/off dimmer and it's darnned expensive at about £180 with the custom battery. But there's no wires trailing around to plug and unplug as you climb fences and stuff. And no wiring problems. I have also looked at the "LEDray" from Deben - well the original one from china that Deben buys - in white with a red filter. It's incredibly light and fuss free white light but bunny takes off almost as soon as the light hits it. If I were asked to say why I could only guess that the wavelength even with the red filter is very visible to bunny. Given you have another thread running about poor lamping success I'd say the LEDray route will not give you time to make the shot as you'll need to be very quick. Your member name suggests you might be big enough to carry a heavy battery pack around... so I propose you get a dimmer equipped lamp. AndyCM
+ customised lightforce 140 with amber filter Have 170 handheld too - taping the edge of the filter helps avoid light splashback too

Doggone
240 lightforce with dark red filter, on top the truck, just enough to see fox eyes out to 500yds or so. When you find eyes in range, turn off the lamp and identify and shoot with night vision on 22/250. Expensive but very efficient. Andy. tuck1
I'll stick my neck out a bit here and say that, really, it depends on what you're after/the ground you work/etc. This has been done to death so I'll be brief. Less can be more. The bigger/brighter the lamp, the further you can see. Great for big open areas, long range ID, bad for well lamped areas/animals where they exit stage left as soon as they get caught in the beam. A dimmer/filter can help with this. Lamps on rifles - good for lone lamping, bad for swinging loaded guns around to look at stuff. I use a Tracer max on the rimmie, which I find ample, and does at a push on the centrefire. A bit hard to adjust to get the beam in exactly the right place, but quite robust and good on power. I use a Lightforce 140 and 170 now and then and they are good, ditto all the comments about **** wiring though. I think a dimmer is really needed with these. Good luck
THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
Get the the best you can with a dimmer & different filters. No matter what short range shooting your doing now you will find It's expensive to keep upgradeing lamp kits. I have Lightforce 140/170 lamps with several filter with a dimmer. I have no need to upgrade again. With this I can use it on a sub 12ftb, FAC air & a rimmie. It will allso do me fine on a future 17HMR & small C/F. What did I use before. All the ones that havn't been recomended.
