hambone
Just spoke to a mate on a shift change and he said he'd been told that new law has been passed to make it illegal to shoot foxes with rimfire rounds. Any one heard this.

Blackbart
If a law like this had even been in the offing BASC and other shooting groups would have been shouting about it(i hope) and it would be a mare for forces to inform all fac holders. Baldrick
I very much doubt that - the BASC, CA, NFU and virtually every other group monitoring legislation that affects the rural community would have flagged up such a change in law. CZ550Kevlar
There has been no law passed, however.... some forces will not grant a rimfire with a fox condition on it. There seems to be trend with caution, i`m not sure it would be pressed into law.

I did get fox for one rimfire, the .17HMR. Edited April 12, 2009 by Goldfish

kdubya
there is no rimfire on the "approved for fox" list that the police are SUPPOSED to go by but so some do? mine wont, and probably quite rightly so. KW

macca
Gee you poor blokes have to go through so much faeces for licences and guns - and I thought it was bad out here. My cat A B licence allows me to buy any rifle or shotgun of any calibre and multiples of each- my only restrictions are on semi auto rifles and shotguns and pump shotguns. I think at the moment I have eight 22's (4 target 4 hunting). The one thing I like is that you can have cans for the front of your guns without any hassles. Out here its a real issue. Cheers Edited April 12, 2009 by macca

rarms
There was an ACPO type meeting with FEO's where new rules were discussed for fox and vermin. I have Vermin on my .222 without me asking for it as a result of this. When I questioned it with the FEO I was told it is a new thing. njc110381
I have Fox on my HMR. I got it because when my FAC started off I only had .17hmr and 6.5x55 on it, and I made a big fuss about the safety issues of using the 6.5 on some of my ground. They agreed with me and let me have it, saying that I seemed like the sort to use it sensibly so they couldn't see a problem with it. This calibre thing is weird. I have my .17 for Vermin and Fox, 6.5x55 and .300 Win Mag for Deer, Fox and Vermin, and the .375 for use abroad. It really bugs me that I can shoot a mouse with a .300WM (4000ft-lbs roughly?) yet I can't shoot a Red Deer with my .375 (about 5000ft-lbs)! Silly but that's life. I'd say the .300WM for vermin outweighs the issue of not being allowed to use the .375 here. It's over sized and pointless for UK species anyway! Goldfish
True to Police form, the table may be out of date but until the guide changes its what will be used as best practice! Edited April 13, 2009 by Goldfish
