Thumpersniper
well i went out lamping earlyer, had a few rabbits then decided to go for a walk to where i knew there was a vixen with cubs to see how much they had grown. I shone the lamp and saw the vixen, and three little sets of eyes at the end of a silage field near the den. I got within about 60 yards of her, then they all dissapeared, i walked up to the den and sat quietly for a minute, then squeeked and two cheeky cubs popped straight out of the worn earth! i held the lamp up in the air and squeeked, i could see their eyes bobbing up and down as they came closer! one came within about 2 yards of me and i got a couple of pics! There are no chickens, ducks or lambs here at the moment just thousands of fu*in rabbits, so i will leave them alone to help keep their numbers down until they are a bit older, then i will thin them out a bit when they are a little more of a challenge, and when killing a visen wont mean these little chaps starve to death! i bet some people clicked on this to see an obliterated fox cub as per the title?! were they pleased or dissapointed?! o and please dont tell me how you would have smeared it accross the field with 36g of BB's, i had a loaded 12 bore under my arm and could of, just there was no need this time! verminer
well done you, i also see no point in shooting vixens or cubs if they are no threat. but they will give you good sport eventually.
steve_b_wales
Well Done mate. I would have done exactly the same, if the foxes were not causing problems for the farmer.

al4x
though lamping them and not shooting them can make them lamp shy and hard to get hold of in future
Bleeh
though lamping them and not shooting them can make them lamp shy and hard to get hold of in future It can also do the exact opposite...
Blackbart
I would have smeared it all over the field Nice pics though.

Thumpersniper
lol Blackbart! yea i know it could make them lamp shy, but i havent lamped them before, and i didnt scare it off it just came up had a sniff and wondered on, so it will still be naive in September. To be honest it probably wont survive that long, the coppice where they live is, on the other side, about 180 yards from a tarmac track that goes to a dead end. A few lazy fellas drive up it with their rifles at night and lamp each field. They dont have permission to come, and the land is only cleared for a .22 so they shouldnt even be there! Anyway once the cubs get a bit older they will probably go out the othersde of the wood and get blasted by these blokes (then left in the middle of the field!) If they do survive they have a summer of fun killing rabbits, then they can meet their maker later in the year at the hands of my 10 bore! BSA it is a Nikon Coolpix, i won it 2 years ago. It is small and often in my coat pocket. I have got so many photos from it which i will love to look back on in future i'm sure. A lot are farming work photos which are treasured because technology and things change so fast that its nice to look and laugh at old pics! Billy.
good on you. I was coming on here for a bit of a rant, but I'm glad to read that you've got control, unlike others out there
pavman
though lamping them and not shooting them can make them lamp shy and hard to get hold of in future if you dont shoot and miss I have found they think they are safe and a lamp wont shy them, I know Rob Bucknell trains lamp shys with a PIR+lamp at a feed station so they get used to a light going on and off and get used to it, then you can sort them out when otherwise you cant get near it.... PS, I would have shot them all given the chance

garyb
Nice photo's but they all grow up to be chicken eaters. Ok they keep the rabbits down (do they?) But what about the ground nesting birds etc I would have dealt with them there and then personally...
