I have serched the web but short of going to Germany to get one i will have to get a dif breed. Do any of you out there know of a breeder that i could contact to get things moving forward. WGD
pardon my ignorance, is a GLP (presumably German Longhaired Pointer?) the same as a GWP (German Wirehaired Pointer)?
Lloyd90
pardon my ignorance, is a GLP (presumably German Longhaired Pointer?) the same as a GWP (German Wirehaired Pointer)? There all somewhat related BUT its like the GSP, German Shorthaired Pointer is not the same breed as the GWP! I think all 3 share some ancestory but no they are not the same. Pelt man I have seen n heard of alot of GSP and GWP in the UK but never a GLP, if you keep looking you might be lucky though mate, I think on the kennel club website you can get a list of breeders for diff breeds ? Try there mate, best of luck

I know there are around 200 GLP's in the country and i have been in contact with the GLP Club, contacting a breeder who runs the club they say they will not be breeding until mid next year and have already taken orders for the Pups . I have searched the Kennal Club website but unable to find Breeders. Thanks for your replys. MORE HELP NEEDED ! REGARDS PELTMAN

You might be waiting for a very long time... First and foremost a Dog is not a Dog unless you can pat it on the head WITHOUT having to bend over IMHO . Second Springers and Cocks are to Hypa for me . I want a good allrounder from Pigeon shooting to Deer stalking. Dont like Lab's or Goldies its like having a Skoda  Dont tell SS i said that Also now need a dog that is pleasing to the Eye for Wife and Kids, hence the longhaired. Everyone to there own. MartinP
hey there Have heard of the GLP but know nuffin bout them. Have a 2 yr old GSP who i must say is the absolute best and wouldn't be without him. Ask me 4 mths ago would hve given a very differnt outlook. GLP being GERMAN and a POINTER, the first 2-3 yrs will be hell, they are very independantband hyper ain't the word, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperacdtive disorder) and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) are more like the phrases i would use. U know those kids out there who have criminl careers the length of a till roll b'fore they are 13, well thats a GSP until 2-3 yrs. i konw its the same for GWP so cant imagine a GLP being much different. if you don't like the hyper'ness of a springer or a cocker, pointers are very highly strung and need as much stimulation. If mine misses a days walk , i do notice it the next day. Don't mean to put anyone off pointers as i luv my boy to bits and will always be a shorthaired pointer man. I have been very close to getting rid of him and am very grey cos of him.

casts_by_fly
might want to consider a large munsterlander also given your criteria above. Similar criteria to what we have (minus the kids bit). I wanted all around, pointer and retriever, fairly large and my wife wanted a solid colored dog. We're going WHV, though GWP, GSP(solid liver), weim, and standard Viszla were in the mix. My wife doesn't like long haired dogs otherwise the munsterlanders would have come in also. thanks, rick
Raja Clavata
Dear MartinP, Have just pasted your post into an email to the wife in the hope that it'll cheer her up a bit. We've been busy with a few things the last couple weeks and our already mischevious 7 month old GSP has turned into a demon through lack of attention and reduced exercise. Thought we knew what we were letting ourselves into
al4x
strangely enough my GWP seems pretty calm in comparison, she's been easy so far gets a bit carried away before walks but nothing too bad. Chases the cat in the morning for exercise but really has been straightforward. Though I had heard they were calmer then GSP'S

ziplex
Out with her ladyship tonight, if there was a dog with higher drive and any more difficult to train i'd like to meet it! Fabulous dog though now she's calmed down . Try Birkenwald kennels, (Mrs Gill), in Dorset she may be able to give you some info' on GLP's, she's well versed on everything german! Pidge
Try Brenda Moss in Oxfordshire. She breeds GLPs, or Rob & Theo Gould. You could also ask on the working HPR Forum (workinghprs.myfastforum.org) I have Large Munsterlanders (a black/white GLP to those that don't know the differences)
Traztaz
I have a GSP, and everything on them that has been said is true.Loyal, hard working, mental, destructive when not worked, etc etc.I live in Germany and have a dog of the finest lines, he has smashed all his exams, and the German exams are hard and very strict. A very good friend of mine is one of Germany's top GLP breeders and has exported dogs as far as USA.If you really want a GLP, and a super quality one then please contact me and I will put you in touch with Rolf.He is now about 65-70 I think and has become the leading light on this breed in Germany. How they compare to my little bundle of dynamite I can not say, however be aware that ALL good German all round working dogs are very high input dogs from the owners side.Be prepared to put ALOT into the dog and you will get ALOT ALOT out of it, but fail in the input and you will receive misery and frustration. I have just been fragged at work for the last 2 weeks and as a result did not have enough time for Sam, he is 15 months old which didnt help, the result is that he has twice in 2 days ripped the light switches out of my rear hall and destroyed them!!Thank ******* he did not get a shock, or burn the house down!! Have worked him hard this morning and he is curled up under my feet as I type. Will work him hard again later and then again tomorrow. That should see us Ok to just walk a mile or two each night next week. Understand what you want to take on, and if you have the commitment and the menatlity for it go for it and like I said, the best dogs come from a mate here, and if I can help out I will. GOOD LUCK!! Traztaz
THIS IS FOR BAZOOKA JOE, HE SENT ME A PM, AND FOR SOME REASON I CAN NOT REPLY BY PM BJ, the subject is massive, too long, far too long to type in any detail about.I have european flat rate on my phone, PM me your LANDLINE number and I will call you and we can talk about it.Lots , ie most of my friends here in Germany run GWP, and I know of many breeders, as for that tosh with the pedigree papers....................well you will not get that **** here I am sure. Like I said, drop me the number and I will call. Cheers, Scott.
