One of my best days ever! And got to grips with my new gun

Went out for a few hours this afternoon looking for some rooks, didn't find any but did spot a few pigeon on some old stubble so though I'm here so may as well have ago. Got set up by 12 ish and the first half a dozen came in before I got back to the hide! Then a couple more before I got the gun ready 25 shots in the first 5 minutes but only got about 10 birds I think some on here would have got 25! I was missing birds I would of been able to hit with a shovel!

So I slowed it down a bit and found I was shooting about a foot to 18 inches high. After that thins got better I was hitting more than I missed :-) . I was got one with each barrel on a number of occasion! Unheard of for me even got 2 with the first shot and 2 with the second twice! And even 3 with the first and 2 with the second shot once then after about 2 hours the birds stopped and the rain started, so not wanting to spoil a great day I packed up picking up 79 pigeons and 1 crow! Even the farmer said on the way out it looked like I'd had a good time by the smile on my face :-))

So in the session you shot four with two shots twice and five with two shots another time? The pigeons must have been coming in thick and fast. I have never done that in forty years of decoying.

They were! I don't expect to be going it again or see pigeons like it again any time soon!

I've never seen them come in like it! up to a dozen at a time at one point there must have been 30! and I had the decoys in a tight pattern because I only saw a dozen or so feeding there in the first place and no real flight lines. They would just go round and straight back in.

I think after my first couple of shots it put up a lot of small groups that where feeding in the valley out of the wind.

It would have been good to see someone who really knew what they were doing having a go at them, I just got lucky! very lucky!!

glad for ya , I had my best day yesterday as well ,only got 5 crows but my youngest came and loved every min , especially when he went for a runner went about sixty yards picked it up and put it out of its misery and he's only 11

Now that is a good day!

No thats me on any other day!

As for getting multiples to be honest it would have been more inpressive if i could have got one out of the cloud of birds with out hitting the others!

True I am a pretty poor shot. However shooting 13 birds with 6 shots does not signify a good shot. I am not sure of the correct terminology for this type of shooting and even if it came to me I would keep it to myself.

I Have done it on very rare occasions had two pigeons with four shots ,and once when I was shooting above my average had five shots for two pigeons , but l must admit it was only when the moon was Blue , maybe your patterns are too loose Mr JDog :lol:

Sounds like ferals to me. They can be quite easy to hit multiples sometimes when they just hover over the deeks in a group.

Good day for you anyway, just don't eat the ferals if that's what they were (no white wing bars) :good:
