Fibre optic sights

Now i know that for many of you Fibre optics are a big no no, but I have found that they have helped me immensely. I love a project and the fibre optic sights that are available all seem quite expensive at around £20 a pop. I discovered a great hobby store online www.hindleys.com and bought 8 x 500mm pieces (4 x 2mm, 4 x 4mm) enough to make endless versions and try-outs for just over £10 incl. postage. The blue is not so bright but the photo shows the performance of these rods indoors on a not so bright day, Project heaven!

Great idea, would love to hear how you get on with your R&D!

I have to say I had a Ruby Sight on my side by side and liked it, although I dont have a dominance problem it helped target acquisition and shooting in low lights in the woods.

Good luck!

I know they look nice, but I was always taught not to actually look at the sight, but to keep your eyes on the target, and if the gun fits properly you don't even need a front sight.

If it has helped you, OK, but once you start looking at the nice fibre-optic thingy instead of the target......................................:lol::lol::lol:

Top left is 3 x 2mm in a triangle pattern all others 4mm (green far and away the best IMO)

  • 1 year later...

A friend of mine - the late Graham Stephens - used to sell the Easyhit sights, but then started to import the Ruby sights, which are still sold on Ebay. Since his demise, his son took over and still sells them.

I always thought that they could be easily made and you have proved this to be correct. The only real differences are that the tubes are not truly enclosed, but painted to give that impression. Also, the furthest end was always covered, which meant that the light that you see is drawn in from the uncovered section of the tube.

I appreciate that you have painted both ends, but black shrink-wrap, for electrical wiring, would do the job. As I invested in about 200 metres of shrink-wrap, some time ago, I might have a go. The light gathering rods are mega cheap - 66p a throw. The postage at £5.95 - is the most costly item.

As with most Pigeonwatch craft items, I am seriously impressed.

Hi , what a great product at a great price !, I know we should not look at the bead BUT I know of one GB shooter who uses a another product to good effect, when you drive you don't turn a corner and look at the bonnet BUT it's there in your sight picture just as the rib is when you shoot.... Look out there.!!!!!!
