  1. Easier just to replace. False economy throwing any money at it.
  2. Empty promises and the uneducated (ironic) swing us into a very bad position. Europe rubbing their hands and laughing at us !!
  3. I think it's more to do with tradition. Over and under is the preferred. There is also the safety aspect, an O/U which is broken is visibly safe, an empty auto or pump is not so obvious and can make people more nervous. I've used an auto at a clay ground, but I tend to put back in it's case when not in use as good practice. It's more inconvenient than breaking an O/U and throwing it over your shoulder. Ideally, an O/U for clays and for me it's a semi auto for the pigeons but this is down to the individual and preference. Again just my opinion, but the pump action is a little "Rambo"; I don't understand why anyone would want one other than to add to their collection and as a bit of a novelty. The semi auto on the pigeons has the 3rd cartridge advantage for those really busy days and the ease of loading of not having to break the gun in a confined space. Think about what you will be doing more of, from the sounds of it and the fact you don't have shooting permision for pigeons, you will be doing more clay, I would go for an O/U which is also fine on the pigeons. You will find after some time you will make up your own mind on what to shoot with regardless what anyone else says, or more than likely, you'll end up with more than one gun to suit every occasion!!
  4. Have a read on the BASC website: https://basc.org.uk/shooting/shot-sizes-2/ Note it doesn't talk about the cartridge length, but you won't need a 3" cartridge for either of the two disciplines you have mentioned. Your shotgun, presumably an over and under, will take up to a 3" cartridge and will happily cycle anything below. If you're looking at an auto, depending on the gun, these can be a little fussy on cartridge length; Most are happy with 2.75 and above, some won't cycle less than 2.75 and that is to say you may get jams or the cartridges wont ekect.
  5. Not an expert reloader but from what I understand it's not really cost effective outside of heavy game loads. Stick to shop bought cartridges, you'll have enough to concentrate on without the added complication of home loads. Also I don't think you need 3" shells for clay or pigeon shooting.

    log burner

With respect to the OP, and I'm not suggesting he is, I think all these "ignore the stupid laws/regulation" posts would all change if some numpty attempted the same thing and was living in the house attached to yours or your families house! The OP asked for opinions, mine is that his and his families lives are worth more than a few ££'s he is trying to save, unless of course he wants to play the "odds" as you've suggested...... I have no issue with OP undertaking the labor himself but call in an expert to check and certify what you've done; I'm sure he would still have saved a generous amount.
  7. Totally hear what you're saying. The way I see it is the new cars are simply the way forward, and there are enough land rovers about to tinker with for another forty years like we have been for the last forty years. After that I won't be around and it's someone else's dilemma.
  8. Design a car for farmers or another Chelsea tractor......hmmm, decisions decisions! Must have taken at least 4 seconds to deliberate

    log burner

Why wouldn't you get it done for peace of mind? Presumably you live there and possibly family to! I had a neighbor who's house caught fire due to a poorly fitted log burner, and that was a few years after it was done......
  10. Cens passive. Had mine for a few years now. Extremely comfortable, can have conversation with them or answer the phone; Gun shot is a mere crack. And the beauty is you can upgrade to the electronic at any time by removing the passive modules and inserting the electronic ones.
  11. I think it's impossible to answer your question as it will all depend on the existing roof structure. In essence, anything is possible, it's just a matter of how much it would cost.
  12. Welcome to the forum. Start off by filling in your profile, people like to know a little about you! No details in your profile and things like "gender - not telling" won't help you at all. Then my advice would be to do searches for your questions on the forum before you ask things that have been asked 100's of times. Ask people at your clay ground if anybody you already know does pigeon shooting, or look for local syndicates you could join. Of course you can do door knocking and ask for permission, but I would wait until you can offer a level of confidence and competence so you don't burn any possible bridges. Cos
  13. Every hob will require a certain size cut out, but that's not to say one 60cm hob cut out won't fit another 60cm hob! You should be able to take a measurement of the cut out from beneath.
  14. Perfect approach from the police, shoot first and ask questions later! This scum don't deserve anything else. Well done the police!!
  15. Keep the rubber handy for when you are holiday, obviously leather doesn't particularly like the water, hence the rubber straps on divers watches. Saying that, there some lovely rubber straps out there also.
  16. Automatic watches are self winding, in simple terms a weight inside the watch oscillates with wrist movement and puts tension on what is known as the "main spring". Every automatic has a power reserve (how long the watch will run for without movement or unworn), again in simple terms a fully tension'ed main spring will keep the watch ticking for "n" number of hours when the watch is not worn. Quartz watches are battery driven and obviously don't need to be worn to carry on ticking. Different watches have different power reserves, check what your one should be and if it lasting much less that what it is supposed to, then maybe a service is in order. That's a great looking watch!! I like the strap as well, really suits the watch.
  17. Personally I'd opt for an automatic movement.
  18. Seiko movements aren't to be sniffed at! Some of the Grand Seikos are great watches. Get yourself onto a TAG forum where you will find enthusiasts who will point you in the right direction. Either way check out Chrono24 where you will find competitive prices if you don't mind buying from the net. As always, due diligence on the seller is always a wise move.
  19. Bluetooth won't work more than around 10m, being the speaker you are aiming for is at the lower end also, this may limit you even more. Go to Currys, big range of them and you can try them out on your phone. You may get some odd looks though squawking at full volume
  20. DItchman, looking at that motor, are you making a new pigeon flapper?
  21. Cheers mate It is a lovely watch, and these are around the £3k new now. I can just picture it on your wrist being you're a bit of Bond yourself......
