Welcome. Fill in your profile so people can see what shooting etc you are interested in.
  2. You can probably work it out here: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content...&mediaId=400347
  3. A new and unused Barbour canvas fishing bag, leather trim and tabs with pockets for your equipment and detatchable lining for easy cleaning. Unwanted present sold on behalf of a friend. £30 posted direct to your door. (Retail price approx £50.)
  4. For an air rifle, field of view is more important than high magnification. You need to be able to find your target quickly, but you don't need a higher magnification than what the gun is accurate to. It's a waste of money putting an expensive scope designed for a centrefire rifle onto an air rifle. On the other hand, don't buy a cheap scope for an expensive air rifle.
  5. Standard game cartridges are 2 1/2" (65mm). Longer cartridges such as 2 3/4" (70mm) allow more propellant to be used, heavier loads, or bigger wads. 3" cartridges are used for magnum loads. Some old, lightweight guns used 2" (50mm) cartridges. These are quite expensive to buy nowadays, and many guns originally chambered for 2" cartridges have had their chambers enlarged and re-proofed where possible. Because of the higher pressures generated, and because of the size of the chambers, it is unsafe to use longer cartridges than your gun is chambered for. Jake - putting more gun powder in cartridges did not always increase the energy the shot was ejected at because gun powder is slow burning, and once the shot has left the gun, any remaining unburnt powder will have no effect. That is why before modern smokeless nitro powders, there was a trend to make the gun barrels as long as possible to give the longest burning time.
  6. Merry Christmas everyone!
  7. If Blair thinks delaying the ban is going to stop civil disobedience and protests, he is more naiive than I gave him credit for!
  8. Any chance you could post it? Not everyone reads the Shooting Times!
  9. The size of your air reservoir would have to be massive and have thick walls to contain that sort of pressure, else you would use small reservoirs each giving you no more than a couple of shots. It would be far more practical and convenient to use a centrefire rifle.
  10. The last large order from the US I made was subject to the following VAT at 17.5% Import duty (varies depending on item) at 4% Overall charge of 22% of the value of the item. You should only normally have to pay US sales tax if you are making the purchase within the same state.
  11. You need to make sure your image is not too big, and that it is in JPEG format.
  12. Can anyone give a review of the Peter Theobald book?
  13. I had stopped visiting the chatroom over the last few months because it had degenerated. In the last few days I tried it again and found it was no better. Something needed to be said.
  14. Yes, I have done this and it's good. Tenderise the meat well, and marinade well. This is important or the meat will be tough.
  15. I don't eat the bones. Traditionally, the head was tucked round and the beak was inserted through the thighs to to truss the bird. In the same way, two pigeon feet are traditionally inserted upside-down in the crust of a pigeon pie. Still done today in rural areas.
  16. Anyone about? I will be about in 5 minutes.
  17. Sorry Ollie, but you DO eat the guts. The woodcock has a peculiar characteristic in that it evacuates its gut as it takes flight to get rid of excess baggage so it's actually perfectly safe to eat. Therefore you pluck and roast complete. Roast it on a thick slice of toast and the stock and trail makes a savoury sauce. Sounds disgusting but when you get over the thought, it's actually delicious. I've had it many times and never been ill from it!! Whatever you do, you cannot draw them before cooking as it spoils them. Woodcock needs to be well hung - in this weather, about 10 days should do it. Wrap in fat bacon to keep it moist. I cover with foil and slow roast for longer than the recipe books say to make it really tender, basting every 10 minutes or so. Afterwards, I remove the foil and put it back in the oven to finish off for 1/4 hour or so.
  18. I am verry sorry to hear that PP. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    first post

I have the S200 and I find it just right for bunny bashing and ratting. It's sturdy enough for general use, yet it's light enough to carry around. I never got round to getting the magazine. I use a stirrup pump instead of a diver's bottle as you don't need to add any special insurance onto your car for transporting it. I would stick with the Air Arms moderator. My scope is a Zenit A2, but any decent scope such as a Nikko Sterling will do. No need to go for really high magnification as its unnecessary for an airgun. Better to have a wide field of view. Don't buy one of the cheapo scopes as they are rubbish and will only spoil your shooting enjoyment.
  20. Minced pork rind with the fat underneath does for the fat, or you can use a pig's head and / or trotters. You also need to add some rusk to bind it all together.
  21. You're wasting your time with an air pistol. You will rarely be able to do anything much with it. Get a lightweight air rifle instead.
  22. A friend of mine used to work for a satellite mapping company and they could take pretty good aerial photos (provided there wasnt any cloud cover). He once got into trouble with to boss for wasting time by using the satellite to take aerial photos of his parents' house. The images were really good and you could even easily identify the cars parked outside.

    Bye!

If you have any success, let us know when Mrs Digga is up for grabs! (hmm..... "grabs" being the definitive word )
  24. Sex is like cards: If you don't have a good partner, you better have a good hand. Do you get that one, Aled?
  25. I wouldn't mind a few more of Digga's missus running about though!
