  1. I just did China. After 1949, all business entities in the People's Republic of China were created and owned by the government. ... State-owned enterprises are mostly governed by both local governments' SASAC and, in the central government, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council.
  2. Surefire caps only fitted the older eley cases so it would be hard to find any cases to reload with them these days.
  3. Later evidence found after emails were leaked suggested that in the fifteen years up to Climategate no warming had been detected and the scientists at East Anglia University had altered the numbers. Suddenly, Global Warming became unfasionable
  4. Its always been very noticeable that climate change activists, promoters, call them what you want, always come from a particular segment of the political spectrum and play the same blame cards Its taught in schools in a very biased way to deliberately scare the children, which I don't think is legal as it is a political subject. But its considered to be "social awareness" by the teachers.
  5. Technically in China all companies are State owned.
  6. Ooooh that's three wrongs in a row, now are you going to explain what you mean? or just leave us to suspect what we think?
  7. I think China is like the old Roman Empire, (if you know their history well enough to comment?) never let a rebellion go unpunished, never bend, not even an inch, to do so just shows weakness and that simply cannot be allowed. Always make an example of anyone who opposes or disobeys you. Make the punishment far exceed the crime.
  8. Oil is nowhere near as thermally efficient a fuel as good coal. The fact that oil became dominant in the first place owes a lot to the fact that America was discovering large reserves of oil about the same time as the automotive industry was kicking off. But why are were now spending billions buying oil from people who hate us? As we are a country sitting on enough coal to serve all our energy needs for the next few hundred years at least, why would we not want to use it? Its free, its just sitting there waiting to be dug up? We have clean burn technology and some of the cleanest coal in the world. And on the second point, as you balk at the word Communist do we take that as it appears? Do you have something you want to share with us?
  9. Clearly you do not know the difference between Communist and Fascist. Fascist doesn't exist except as an adjective. Communist is well documented. China is communist.
  10. When Trump tried to start a trade war with China the analysts on the money web sites said he had better not because he would lose. Not that he probably took a blind bit of notice. China is still Communist even though they are massive exporter. They don't have to seek the approval of an electorate or consider public opinion in any way. Factories are told what to produce and there is no internal competition. In many ways its Orwellian but its flippin' efficient.
  11. That's very interesting, my guess would be that a significant percentage of the USA energy usage goes on air conditioning. In the summer every house, even the very poor ones in poor neighbourhoods have the aircon running flat out and a typical unit is 3.5KW or more
  12. Coal can be burnt very efficiently if you pulverise it and blow it as a fine dust into the combustion chamber using very hot preheated compressed air. It creates a process not dissimilar to a jet engine. They were ecperimenting with all this stuff alongside flash steam engines back in the 60s for trains (and boats) and the early results were stunning. But diesel electric was a low tech cop out and the funding dried up. I am sure somebody could dust off the old notes and start again but the problem then, and still is now, coal comes out of the ground for free. There is little incentive to burn it more efficiently. Unless you NEED to do it on a moving platform like a locomotive or a ship when the amount of coal you can carry is limited and takes up cargo space. Otherwise, the only motivation is to mine it as cheaply as possibly and burn it in a low tech low cost power station with the least effort possible
  13. I do, I have a flat there. Its got a pretty coast but things are entirely different once you get about a mile or so inland.
  14. Actually Cornwall is one of the poorest counties in the British Isles. The winter fuel allowance was introduced in about 1997 by Gordon Brown. Even the most avid Labour supporters realised it was just a bribe, a Christmas bonus.
  15. Spears the "Net worth" specialists say Jeremy Corbyn is worth £3 million.
  16. Not if its to do a rubbish degree in some idiotic subject
  17. I was asked to pop into Currys PC World by the OH this morning to pick up a Fitbit she wanted to give somebody for Christmas. Apparently they have a promotion on. Saw the assistant with the badge saying "can I help you". He looked it up but they didn't have the colour SWMBO wanted, however that's no problem they can order it and it will be in tomorrow. Took me over to the counter to order it. Talk about the counter assistant from hell! Awkward, unhelpful, wanted all my personal details but wouldn't let me have it at the promotional price because it might not be in before the promotion ends. Went back to the man with the badge and he checked the stock and said they had it at another branch nearby. So half an hour later I am in the other branch. What a contrast, couldn't have been more helpful, all done and dusted in no time. PLUS they gave me a free Google Nest Mini which was part of the promotion but the first store mysteriously forgot to mention it. Hmmmm!
  18. agreed, Boris is by far the most agile mind but was a bit like a half trained puppy, never the less he landed his punches , Corbyn often looked out of his depth, a bit lost and he kept evading questions about Brexit. Did he think nobody would notice????? sorry Heaven's sake, if you are Leader of the Opposition and you go on a Live debate on National TV. Don't you think it wise to do some preparation? rehearse some question and answer scenarios, get all your little ducks in a row? He looked like he just turned up expecting to wing it, well it clearly didn't work did it?
  19. Jeep is Chrysler, the same people who built the Sherman tank in WW2. I don't believe they do a diesel option in USA so the 3.0 six is probably a merc engine. Same as they fitted in the 300 for European market.? Good engine but Chrysler are not always briiliant on the availability of spares in UK.
  20. You can get very tasty cars very cheaply because people are wary of them. I bought an SL55 AMG for a tenth of what it cost new but if certain things go wrong you have to be prepared to walk away and not start chucking money at it
  21. Well, if we are plundering doctors and nurses from around the world to come and work here because we have artificially created a shortfall then it does become an immigration issue even if it is of our making. If a foreign nurse or doctor is doing a job that could/should have being done by a home grown doctor or nurse that is simply wrong and very short sighted.
  22. The cost of saving somebody's life can be astronomical in terms of later monitoring and care. But look at St Mary's Paddington, its the national centre for HIV/Aids. Most of its patients are foreign nationals who came here after infection. Their medication is approx. £250 a day, which they couldn't afford back in their home country. Simple question, should the NHS treat them? Remembering that it doesn't stop at their treatment, they get housing and support as well.
  23. Hundreds, more likely thousands of suitably qualified bright young hopefuls fail to get places to train as doctors and nurses every year. Apart from the loss to the country its a tragedy for the kids who could have been on the road to a respectable career and a totally different life. Instead the NHS has systematically closed the nurses schools to the point where they don't exist anymore. Years ago every hospital trained its own nurses, and paid them to train.
  24. Part of the problem apparently was that the actual testing was so expensive that virtually all the samples that were taken were never processed at previous Olympics.
