There coal industry demise is complicated. In South Wales it was the change over from steam locomotives to Diesel locomotives on the railway and the same move away from steam power on ships that steadily reduced demand to the point that the mines became unviable. That because Welsh coal was used predominantly for steam. Even the steel industry was moving away from coal. In Yorkshire, the Midlands and Kent coal was mined by the old Coal Board, a Nationalised quango who's main customer was the Electricity Generating Board, another Nationalised Quango. Demand for coal was going down anyway as homes switched to gas central heating. Pits were already closing all through the 60s.under labour The already grossly inefficient coal board, just put up prices to compensate until some accountant at the Electricity Generating Board realised that they could buy heavily subsidised coal from Poland for much less than they were getting it from the Coal Board. So they did, the rest is history The basis of the decision was a disaster for the country but it was nothing to do with Maggie.

Don't suppose you have signal crayfish in the pond by any chance?

Reduce the internal capacity with firebricks if burning anthracite, it gives off so much more heat its incredible but its also the best and most cost effective fuel if you are buying it. It has an energy yield of approx. 30 MJ /kg. Its what was used to be called Welsh Steam Coal, it was what they used on Locomotives back in the day. As well as having the highest energy yield it also has low pollution content. South Wales has the best quality coal in the whole world, best energy yield, lowest pollution. Is anybody out there listening? I don't think so...………….. They would rather buy Polish low grade dirty coal to power UK power stations. I will keep banging on in the hope that one day maybe, just maybe, somebody will listen

Having done most of my 'duck hunting' in the States I am convinced that the only suitable shotgun is a pump. More for safety than anything else. You can carry it on an empty chamber but still load it in a second when you need to. Also once fired it is safe till you cycle it. So you can put it down on the floor of the boat (in USA) or hide or lean it somewhere. . Both important considerations in a muddy hole in the dark with cold hands trying to retrieve a duck. As for water, the internals are more or less open to the air anyway, unlike a sxs or o/u The water goes in but it comes out again just as easily. If god hadn't wanted us to use a pump he wouldn't have invented WD40 or Plus Gas in aerosol sprays. On the subject of extreme water ingress. When I lived in West Africa in the late 70s I used to go swimming in the sea with my CZ75 9mm pistol fully loaded in a button down holster round my waist. The reason was I would not be so ****** stupid as to leave it on the beach with my towel and flip flops. Back on land, grips off, mag out, slide off and put it all on the floor of the shower while I showered. After the shower, immerse bits in a bowl of clean water followed by an ice cream tub of meths and out to dry. An Hour later, spray everything with plus gas, dry with an old towel and back in the holster.

Its like that a lot, the misuse of French to add some sort of false status or validity, a while back we went into a place in London and the whole menu was in French. Top to bottom. restararant

People like Aldi don't have cornflake factories, biscuit factories, baked bean factories etc of their own producing their own brands. A little bit of detective work is all that is needed usually to reveal that the packaging is identical to some other big name commercial brand that makes it for them. I have this discussion over and over again with my stepdaughter who simply wont believe it.

I so know what you mean, and its the same the world over. The thing that's always puzzled me is how the organises don't realise they are losing money by being inefficient. Where I used to go a few years back I would have happily paid for a double round if I could have shot it but as it was I struggled to do one. Mind you this is London and the home counties, demand is high, clubs are few. Its one of the reasons I drifted away from clay shooting a few years ago

Some foxes have a lot of black in their coat, especially if its the winter coat but it probably wasn't pure black. There is/was an old dog fox round where I live that I called shaggy, he looked like a german shepherd.. It seems more common in urban foxes Round here we have black squirrels in Ruislip woods going down to Northwood golf club, but when you get up close they are just very dark grey.

Is There A Demand For Wild Rabbits ?
Vince Green replied to marsh man's topic in General Shooting Matters
I'm not entirely sure how legal it is to sell meat products these days without the right registration. All this overbearing "big brother is watching you" legislation has meant shoots can't sell their pheasants etc -
Its definitely about where you stand and an overcast day is best. If you video from just behind the shooter's left shoulder and then freeze the frames I am told you can see it clear as day but I have never tried it myself. I know that if you watch videos of people shooting rats and foxes you can see the bullet clearly going down

In Scotland you don't see much "illegally netted salmon" or "poached venison" on the menu but you get to see quite a lot on your plate.
-
The thing that bugs me on menus is the insistence in referring to gravy as Jus, cheese as artisan, or chips as fries. Fish is always pan fried and line caught, I just want to eat it, how you caught it or cooked it is of no interest to me.

I remember a shooting instructor at the West London Shooting Ground , (Peter Crabtree?) trying to teach me how to see the shot. He said it was a knack but once you have got it, it was like riding a bike

Our Vets its more than £100 to park in the car park
-
Yes I can tell you if you PM me, I can give you a list of roads with no parking restrictions and recommend a good local minicab company. Its a regular industry round these parts.
-
What a lot of people seem to do for Heathrow is park in our cul de sac for free and get a mini cab for the last bit
-
An experienced eye can see the shot, I have never been able to but it is possible

We use the stuff from these people https://www.pestcontrolsupermarket.com/rats-22-c.asp but the biggest part of the tactic is to eliminate all other food sources or you are just trying to do a King Canute They wise up to poison, traps etc very quickly because they are incredibly savvy On the other hand you have endless free air rifle shooting - look on the bright side

Take it to the garage, just say the clutch is gone and ask them how much to fix it. Don't start stressing about gearbox to them, don't even mention it. They will pick up your stress and build on it That's what they do
-
It sounds more like the clutch is knackered which is a lot cheaper

I'm a big fan, the longer he stays Leader of the Labour Party the better I like it.

Are you sure about that?

I bought and shot thousands of them years ago. Loved them
