  1. His family certainly is very rich and he doesn't need to work much less be Chancellor. He is also very bright and well educated I reckon he will be our next Prime Minister
  2. It's not just kids that are getting it. I had a really bad cold and cough last week. Thought it was covid but kept testing negative My son in law is off work at the moment with similar symptoms
  3. That's a good question, he must have wondered many times whether it was worth all the hassle and the grief
  4. I drive on the M4 regularly. There is a long section which is restricted to 50mph. It's amazing how much better the fuel consumption readout on the computer gets when you are doing a constant 50mph compared to 70mph
  5. Yes, I knew him, Dave Sutch, he hanged himself from the bannister in his late mother's house in South Harrow after she died. He was bi polar and she kept him on the medication. A comical figure but he brought a refreshing sense of reality to the election process reminding us that anyone can stand for whatever reason if we choose to.
  6. I don't think the Tories have done badly at all. Boris is a Marmite figure I know but they have had so much to deal with and none of it was of their making. A perfect storm in many ways and its not over yet by any means. I think they handled it pretty well considering all that has happened. Not perfect I agree but we survived this far. Can you imagine if Labour had won the last Election we would have had Corbyn as Prime Minister and Dianne Abbott as home secretary . Terrifying prospect and if they were in power today we would be sending aid to Russia and pulling out of NATO Starmer is ineffectual and Raynor just an opportunist. Who can think of a labour politician you would trust to run a chip shop? They are all people who went into politics because it beats working for a living. A soft touch Most Conservative politicians could earn considerably more outside politics, there is the defining difference
  7. Yes there is one near where I live in NW London, not that you would know. The interpretations of what you can and cant do if you are Jewish varies tremendously round here A bigger impact for getting around in London at the weekend is the fact that they close sections of the underground Sat / Sunday for scheduled maintenance
  8. Reducing motorway speeds to 60 is more likely. Plus it really does make a difference to fuel consumption
  9. Its been going on for years. In P&O's case its easy because a ship in harbour isn't covered by British employment laws and no doubt the ships will be registered somewhere like Cyprus. But my late Mum's carer is Hungarian, she came to London to work in one of the Airport Hotels. She worked officially not for the hotel but for an employment agency based back in Hungary. So she could be paid much less than the minimum wage and it was legal.
  10. yes the poll tax was much better because the great unwashed simply dropped off the electoral register to avoid having to pay. Labour could never put up with that happening because the unwashed normally voted for Labour. Maggie's poll tax plan was brilliant in its concept but thwarted by somebody called Jeremy Corbin who organised the poll tax riots Labour has been running a voting scam for years where fake names are registered on the electoral register (nobody checks! - disgraceful really) and those fake names get converted into postal votes. The scale of it is eye watering in some of the London Boroughs Also Eastern Europeans when they arrive here are very keen to get on the electoral register because it is needed for credit checks and to open mobile accounts, bank accounts, credit cards etc. But they don't de-register when they go home. There lies the problem, collecting the tax from people who never existed or don't live there anymore
  11. Its very easy to identify the genuine ones Now Mr Scully where did you live? what street? whats your postcode? what bus goes past your door? just simple questions like that will weed out the fakes very quickly. If you sit them down for five minutes with a local asking them questions
  12. The Government would have to be informed
  13. Some of the new crews are being paid £1.82 an hour and its perfectly legal because they are not paid by a company in UK
  14. The drivers are all "self employed" freelancers. Its modern day slavery. Literally the worst working conditions you can imagine earning much less than the minimum wage
  15. P&O ferries is totally owned by a company that is owned by the Dubai Royal Family. So what have the Saudis got to do with a thread about P&O ferries?
  16. I have always found import duty to be a bit of a lottery. Sometimes they don't charge you anything, another time they appear to have plucked a figure out of thin air. You can't appeal under a certain amount
  17. During the war a lot of bad things happened to kids who got avacuated but that never gets talked about
  18. It is a problem the other way too. We risk putting vulnerable women and children into homes of weirdos, paedos, or people that just want an unpaid servant to abuse or control. Not everybody offering places will have motives that are as pure as driven snow
  19. I have bought a lot off them over the years. Very sad
  20. They don't need to, maritime laws are different. Lots of ships (most ships?) have entirely foreign crews. However, ferries are very complicated to operate safely and legally. I doubt the replacement crews would be up to the job
  21. Russia: We’ve got hundreds of your planes. What you going to do about it? – POLITICO
  22. If you are into muzzle loading there is nobody much except Krank these days. My OH has an aunt who lives a few miles from their shop so before covid i used to manage an annual visit to stock up. They are not cheap, the guns in the shop are top money
  23. £7000 today if its in the original box
  24. Absolute gold dust now, those sights are worth as much as the rifle I believe Gunshop at Cat Hill East Barnet, London has an SMLE WW1 dated BSA made with a 5A fitted. He is asking about £800 for it. Thats actually a fair price these days A friend of a friend is an RFD and he sold a genuine no4 sniper rifle with proven history for £7000. Lots of fakes and copies out there but this was the real deal. Crazy prices!
