Fallen in love with a Ruger M77/17 but it comes with a heavy target barrel and is not screw cut, is this going to be a major headache? How much difference do they make on a round travelling at 2500fps - will be using mainly for long range crow and pigeon shooting.

Word association.....Daystate.....Sling...........HEDGE, is there a prize? If shot count really concerns you get the s510 regged.

Thanks for the ID guys - it is indeed a 3000 by the looks of it.....I love it.

I can understand that you desire what you consider to be the very best that you can buy in an attempt to give you the best chances of success, be it paper or vermin, but the vast majority of "advantages" that manufacturers bolt to their guns are simply baited hooks for the innocent purchaser. Been shooting for near 40 years and using PCP's from the early days, although not really a hobby shooter as most of my shooting is pest control, I have never needed to recharge a gun during a session and cannot imagine many situations where it would be needed - maybe shooting branchers (that I no longer undertake) or Rat blatting (where a break would be welcome anyway) I really think you should maybe find someone to take you out hunting before you can decide for yourself what is, or is not, needed.

Not sure that you are still on my Christmas card list now as you have hinted that not all AA guns are "that pretty"....name and shame the ugly one Sir (do not include the S200 for obvious reasons) or I will be forced to gather my Pram Toys in preparation for a good throwing session.

You can get a wireless system for about £50 with a couple of extra PIR's - this made my FEO happy and ultimately has to be a wise investment.

True I guess, sold my 355 Berlinetta last year and really miss driving the thing, not the same pleasure in a Range Rover but have to admit that I'm a rubbish driver in any vehicle .
-
You can only shoot them flying if they have food in their beak - sometimes I don't realise they haven't till the last second and have to pull my shot accordingly - that's why I appear to miss so many.

I think you may be putting the Cart before the Horse here. AFAIK you don't even have a perm to use a gun on yet and whilst anyone can buy a gun, finding somewhere to use it is far more difficult. Buy a reasonable, used, well known PCP and get some time under your belt before spending a small fortune on equipment - expensive gear does not kill vermin/game, it's the nut behind the breach that brings home the bacon and for many years experienced shooters will be able to out shoot you with a £100 springer. You keep mentioning the looks of a gun as well - this is of little advantage unless you want to just sit in a bush and hug the thing. Oh - .177 great idea........unless you come across a squizzer .

Find an older Miroku - built to last and will hold it's value. I bought a weird one with a sliding top fence locking system for a couple of hundred and I then sold my mint 525 because the Miroku is miles better - it's now the only gun I use weekly out of 12 that I own and I doubt that I will ever sell it.ps if anyone knows what model it is please let me know....O/U EJ ST with a sliding "fence" that slides over the top of the barrel.

On No....not again.....pass me a Kleenex someone -
I'm with you Mr.C - people get blinded by bells and whistles when buying Airguns and are quite happy to spend the wrong side of a grand for something that manufacturers persuade you is essential. There is NOTHING that will be an appreciable advantage on "Champagne" guns that the vast majority of decent, reasonably priced, PCP's cannot do for far less - Regs? never felt at a disadvantage when both my S410's will plant 50 shots within 1/2" if I do my bit. Adj dangly bits? why? my neck moves quite a bit. Laminated Stock? Not one squirrel has ever demanded that I only use a piece of pretty wood - some makers will say that it is more stable but when most barrels are free floating it makes no difference. If you want living proof of the bullplop bandied around have a quick listen to Giles Barry's latest test on the FX Crown...."barrel is extendable" - no it is not, the shroud might be + the barrel "seems to get better over distance" - so does that mean it is more accurate the further away the target? Can anyone smell something in the air?

Is it one of a pair? -
Find/buy a length of 1" pole and clamp it in the mounts - any serious deviation would be apparent between the pole and the barrel?

My shooting partner experienced exactly the same scenario with his HW100 a few years back - gun was superb for about 2 years then lost power so , trusting the importer, he paid over the top to have it serviced/repaired by them only to have it returned twice well down on power - he gave up and passed the gun on to his son to use in the garden, bought himself an AAS510 and has had no problems since. To be fair though, while the 100 was working it was amazing and I think a combination of a simple leak and incompetent hands at Hull did for it.

Aldi sometimes have them in for under £40 - paid £12 for mine at B&Q in their clearance section about 3 years ago - didn't realise just how different they are until I used it to break up some old Concrete slabs in the garden using the chisel bit, just like a mini jack hammer.
-
I think that shimming Air Rifles scope mounts came from way back when some Weirauchs were built with drooping barrels.
-
Quick someone....Give Mice a spoon.
-
Hammer drill will struggle but a cheap SDS will go through with ease - mine are the same and I'm sure were built from reclaimed Doodlebug launch ramps
-
"because they use a single shot system" - maybe the club you visited do not allow multi shot rifles? Seem to recall some clubs are single shot only so you might need to buy a single shot tray?
-
"Cricket Bat Stock" - on an S410? Just looking at the Walnut offering on my "piece" - stunning, in fact I've had a little sex wee just looking at it - are you maybe thinking of the S200?

Daughters boyfriend had one for the w/end...OMG do they shift but the total silence is unnerving. Imagine being sat in a comfy leather chair then being launched from a catapult and you're about there - the acceleration is just instant and seems never ending, from about 30mph the car was capable of spinning all four wheels with a prod of the pedal.
