No contest - the AA S200 will shoot Rabbits at any range your son could ever wish to be accurate over. Go for the older 2 piece stock version as they seem cheaper and get a multi if you can - sooooo under rated that it hurts.

Trying .17hmr before making application for fac
bruno22rf replied to Sussex gardener's topic in Guns & Equipment
HMR ammo , I believe, has just come down by about £3/box according to my dealer - £14.0/50 last week. Don't automatically think that .17 is immune from ricocheting - it is not. If you want to clear Rabbits then the .22lr with a mod and subs takes an awful lot of beating - the .17 has the edge on range but from what you say you are not used to shooting at long range yet so the advantage of approx. 40 yards the .17 offers may be wasted on you (no disrespect intended) - if you miss with the .22 I think you will stand more chance of a second shot and the difference in noise level is as chalk and cheese ( ignore Asda's "chosen by you" cheddar) so less chance that any bunnies about to come out will be alarmed. Try both before deciding. If you get anywhere near MK I have both that you can blat away with to your hearts content. -
yes please - pm me your payment details please.

So Aldi sold out of both the Chilli Dogs and the Wagyu beef burgers in one day (10 cases of each!! - even the store manager missed out) but hot on their heels are the new Jamaican Jerk Sausages that were delivered yesterday, just tried them and they are superb but you will need to be quick.

Good old Merkur safety razor then finish off in the shower with normal soap and any old cheap chuckaway jobby shaving against the "grain" - steam seems to lift the hair. Used to be a fan of the Aldi/Pit combination but the blades seem to have become less sharp and softer over the years to a point where 2 shaves and they were toast.

The feeders I shoot are in VERY public places and none more than about 25 metres from busy footpaths - the route to them is indicated by red dots painted onto trees so you would not need the skills of a top geocacher to find them - yet none of them have ever been touched - strange.

One of my favourite scopes - IMHO far better than the Hawke equivalent.

Nice looking gun there HS - but did you know that Squirrels cannot tell the difference between Red and Green so most camouflage patterns are wasted on them .

Decent bolts etc should have a number on them relative to their tensile strength - 8.8 for example. I tend to buy about 50 of each common thread i.e. 5,6,8 and 10mm but all about 100mm long then I simply cut them to size - for this you need "full threaded" bolts.
-
Keep filling and sooner or later they will return - beginning to wonder if feeding them is actually increasing their numbers - there seems to be an inexhaustible supply of the beasties and it seems impossible to bring them under control for more than a couple of weeks, mind you, it's good fun trying. BTW - got the final tally for the year and it's a bit disappointing - 147 in total with 47 down to me makes me question what the other 5 guns have been doing?
-
Date of manufacture should be marked on the cylinder - BTW - HW recommend a 10 year life span for their cylinders, I believe, after which the cylinder should be emptied and sent back to them for testing.

Just a suggestion if you are planning on a BBQ this w/end - Aldi are selling "Bad Dog" Chilli Cheese Dogs at £1.99 / 4 that are rather pleasant - you will need to fry them first maybe then finish on the BBQ but don't read the Fat or Salt content on the packet .

You should mention it to their perceived expectations sector - or customer services as it used to be called.

Had one of these back in the days when they were built in America and the breach was made of good old steel - also had a separate cocking "knob" on the rear of the cylinder - used to pump it up then hide it under my arm then creep up on Rabbits - once in range you could silently cock the action and fire. The amount of times the local farmhands would come and ask us if we had seen anyone shooting was well funny.

Pouring down with rain today as I bundled the Dogs in the car and splashed my way down to the fields. Sat in the car for a few minutes talking to the dogs and suggesting that we simply stay in the dry and they poop out of the window but their constant whining and shuffling finally forced me out and into the cold and heavy rain and to set off on our daily hour plus walk. Not a soul anywhere in sight and for the very first time I pulled up the concealed hood on my coat and discovered that it actually also has a built in peak - the collar pulls up around your ears and the sound of the rain on the hood is like hail on a tin roof. Cocooned in my little dry environment the walk that I was so reluctant to take became a real pleasure, so much so that I nearly went around twice - despite the foul weather there is finally colour once more in the hedgerows and the peace and tranquillity is such a joy - shame so many people never get to experience it.

"If there's anything else we can do".....YES - PUT IT BACK THE WAY IT WAS......IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT, it's now pants.

Try RWS subs or even HVHP - superb quality.

WHY??? you can get a set of tubes re-blued for around £100 - looks sooooo much better.

Jesus wept TT - you set it too shallow? Not only have you bought the wrong gun but your dexterity is so poor that I worry about you poking your eye out each time you brush your teeth..........

Zeroed it at 35 yards to start - 2 rounds to bring within an inch of the bull then 100 yards - 2 to bring the hole about an inch above the Bull then 4 clicks down put 3 holes 1/4" above the Bull all touching in a vertical one hole string - well chuffed as she's 16 years old .

Don't know if it's any good to you but I have a brand new Yuasa yb12a motorcycle battery sitting here - about 2 weeks old and unused - yours if you want to collect it - just outside MK.

Had similar thoughts about finding another gun for next season as I don't know if I will be able to control the blighters on my own - this year I only shot 2 woods due to illness but I have yet to get a report as to how we have done collectively so next season I might be asked to cover far more ground - my 47 this year is a little down on last years tally but it might depend on the others performance. Hoppers were filled Friday and I have been told that that's it for this season so I have 6 months to decide what to do. The little Spinney where they just kept appearing has not been visited since the end of Feb (ish) because of the Rookery and the din that the birds make when you enter the wood but the guy filling the Hopper reckons he was still seeing them there every time he filled. Got a new .17 HMR to play with over the summer and I need to trim down my collection of 13 Shotguns so with a bit of Roost shooting and decoying I will be as busy as I like and will just have to hope my health improves but who knows

Normally have a pointed grub screw that screws down from the top of the mount - not quite sure from the picture what you are using there?
-
The LGU has a series of holes in the cylinder surely - you just need to pop an arrester pin thru the rear mount. IF you had bought a Prosport you wouldn't have any problems with harsh recoil now would you?

Give the Walnut a good feed and beware of strong smells as the wood will absorb them - my S410 belonged to a smoker and it took near 2 years before the smell disappeared .
