Never had much of a problem with overseas sellers-the odd crooks I have encountered have all been UK sellers-I buy from China all the time and have never had anything but great service-but, as already said, it would be nice to know how most of the stuff avoids customs - not complaining though

Might seem a bit obvious but have you checked if she has picked up a UTI or something?

I agree Paul123 but sometimes you have to accept defeat and,in this case,if you can get an identical replacement from the same era and its not going to take a gun out of service i.e. a deac. then it makes more sense-you could spend weeks on a stock that's broken at the hand and a lot of money to boot only to find that it breaks again under the pressure of recoil. I bought a very similar gun from wabbitbosher on this very site for less than £40- after a few weeks with Doctor demonwolf444 the stock was returned to me in stunning condition-in fact of my many shotguns I would say its the best by a long way-if the OP wants to use the gun I would suggest he gives replacement and a stay with the Doc some serious consideration.

Looks to me like a typical mass produced Hammergun of the period-these were made all over Europe pretty much to an identical pattern. I would look around for a cheap deactivated gun with decent wood that you could use for parts. Have a look on Gunstar.

We have a Springer that used to do pretty much the same-all we could do was go with him outside and go overboard with praise if he peed-even gave rewards, if he went indoors we would growl at him and not make eye contact when he looked for reassurance-took a while but he's good now.

Bought this gun today for my lad but to be honest its far too good to use and abuse-its just about mint and looks like it was bought yesterday- never think that its over 30 years old-thanks Ralph-pleasure meeting you, you are a true Gent.
-
No worries Zetter-did not realise you had already had a bit of experience. The 2 triggers is something you get used to really quickly but there are a few single trigger sxs guns around. As previous members have suggested-consider an English gun-Powys guns have an Arthur Allen that looks nice for the money-you could afford to have the woodwork bought back to its former glory and get her choked to your specs and still spend less than £500-once the work is done the value of the gun is only going one way.

"Sir" Bob (actually not entitled to be called Sir) found it all worth it-he made a speech in 2008 about world poverty and was paid $100,000 for it-be interesting to know how much of that he donated.

My darling Flashman- Do take the time to read up on Phils war record and read between the lines-he was destined to marry Liz and unlikely to come to much harm if the powers that be could help it. My opinion of the fool will not be changed by pointless arguing or name calling such as this thread seems to have become-he had the privilege to be sat among true hero's in honour of their service and the sacrifice of those who they represented-the very least he could do was keep his mouth shut. Last comment.

I have a Pollard sidelock you are welcome to borrow if you fancy-I'm just outside MK-Winslow-p.m. me if you like-she's old but bin sleeved and is awaiting restoration but is very serviceable-I've shot clays with her and she's perfectly safe-2 1/2" chambers as per most early English guns.
-
My dear Flashman-your insults have got me beat good and proper-of course you must be right because hurling naughty words is the retort of the perfect person-but if you ever get a chance to read the history books.......

Yes-if he failed to mention the pitting then I would be annoyed at him for wasting my time-the pitting can be removed but it will cost. Ever considered buying something cheaper (a lot) and restoring it? There's a wealth of expertise on this forum and members such as demonwolf444 can perform magic on tired woodwork-find a local Gunsmith and have a chat-most are up for cash deals and if you budget around £150 for the stock-£150 for a reblue and about £70 for fine boring/pit removal then you can have a very nice English gun that you have saved for under a grand-its also quite satisfying to do as well.

Er, yes, Flashman-in fact I most likely forget more war details in a day than you know-read his war duties and see how lucky he was-perhaps strings were being pulled? I have nothing but respect for those that earned it in combat and have spent countless hours meeting some of the few who are left-I have met Station commanders and petitioned for War memorials in many local villages-I have pledged £1000 for our local memorial, I have researched and produced dossiers on war casualties for relatives (currently studying Peter Gorgon Dean for an American relative) and produced information displays for the Legion on local casualties-I specialize in RAF as my father flew with Ray Hanna just after the war. I think I have a small idea as to what went on....

Just for the record-Phils naval career was unremarkable compared to many-lets not forget that he met the Queen in 1939 and his luck certainly seemed to change after that-cannot help but wonder why.

"just take the ******* picture-his outburst at the 75 year commemoration of the Battle of Britain. Why should we put up with this pig ignorant behaviour from a Greek beach bum, his arrogance and misguided belief in his own importance is beyond words-the men around him were awarded medals due to their courage and service to their country-Phil's, on the other hand, were a wedding gift.

"Buying the PCP is only half the cost.....you will need to budget for a telescopic sight"-whereas a springer uses the force? "with a PCP you always sell them on"- best get some of yours on the bay then evo!! Oh and a tuned modded springer is NOT as accurate as a PCP that has undergone similar work-it may compete and do well in the right hands but by design will never produce the clinical accuracy of a high end PCP.

Wait 30 seconds with the barrel pointing skywards-make sure anyone near you knows-pop the shell in the other barrel and, still pointing upwards, try it again-if nothing happens then after another 30 seconds take it out and put it into deepish water.

How cheap is too cheap when buying an air rifle second hand?
bruno22rf replied to PeaceFrog's topic in Airgunners
Just a quick note regarding buying blind-bought a gun today, just over £200, never spoken to the guy before and have no idea where he lives-quick chat on the phone and he's posting the gun Monday, next day delivery-no money has changed hands and he's happy to take payment when I have received and approved of the gun. There are a lot of decent shooting men out there. -
Magpies kill more songbirds than Sparrowhawks by a mile-the S/hawk is far more rare and its numbers are dependant on quarry numbers-if the food source dries up the hawks die-magpies, on the other hand, will live off anything and their numbers are way out of control.Full pelt-please invite me along to a shoot where idiots take shots at BOP-or do the decent thing and report them.
-
I doubt that the Sparrowhawk "likes" to eat its prey live-they are a lightweight that rely on speed and agility to catch prey and simply do not have the brute force to kill quickly.
-
Do not mess with it-take it back and show the seller-its his responsibility-if you fiddle and it turns out to be more serious than a loose screw you could affect your warranty.
-
" no matter how fast I drive AT THEM I never hit one"-that's a good thing right???
-
Bin trying to sing the RWS subs praises for years on this forum but my words have largely fell on deaf ears-at last someone else has seen the light-they also do a HV hp that is stupidly accurate but getting hold of them is difficult.
-
I had a speech that I had spent weeks on and practised for days-when I started to read it that's exactly how it sounded-so I tore it up and spoke from the heart-went down a treat.

CharlesP-suspect the wood is new because the owner of the gun states that it is? As the barrels have required resleeving the gun has ,most likely, seen a good amount of use but the wood is mint-another sign plus there is no oil staining around the head-this is nigh impossible to remove from an old stock.
