Well in my humble opinion it should be written into law! We would all know where we stand then! Your “assist the licensing office” is in my opinion, to give the police carte blanch, to interpret licensing how they please! As I said previously that is not policing by consent, and i believe if the police persist with this type of abuse (guilty until you prove yourself innocent) they risk losing the support of the public altogether!

I’m not criticising individual police officers and my question to gingercat was largely rhetorical.....as I know it’s unlikely he has the answer! I gave an example of how different police areas interpret firearms certification differently, I asked Gingercat as a serving police officer, if he knew why and when some police areas decided to support GP’s (who reneged on their agreement) and make up their own procedures, contrary to HO guidance?..........I have no access to the Police Hierarchy, so can’t ask them!......and I doubt they would respond anyway.......what I resent is some police areas (though not all!) forcing the public, despite and contrary to agreed HO guidance being in place (in this example gun certificate applications).......... “to just do as your told”.........its not policing by consent!

As I understand it the guidance was clear, police were to approach the applicants GP for comment on the applicants health declaration, if no response received from the GP within 21 days, the police were to assume all was well, and grant the certificate.....there would be no charge to an applicant for this initial approach! If the GP responded with information highlighting a possible medical issue, then the police could ask for a more detailed report, if there was a charge from the GP for this more detailed report, then the cost may fall on the applicant! When and Why did this guidance, in some police areas, turn into “no GP report, no certificate” for which the GP can charge the applicant, whatever cost he/she sees fit for every application, for every applicant?

The majority of criticism of the police from the public is I think, due to the fact they do not work to any compulsory national standards or agreed service levels....one police area doing one thing, another doing another!.....they should not be allowed (as they seem to be at present) to interpret the law or choose which laws to enforce and how and when to do so, to suit themselves (or their political masters) they should be required in law, to work to a compulsory national standard and work to an agreed service level. Look at the mess they have created with firearm licensing! By demanding applicants do as they say.....rather than complying with National guidance!

If the sausages have been in the freezer for the last 2 years, since which time you have lived “on chicken, fish, veg and rice”.......no wonder they taste bland! Lol!

Ain’t that the truth!........not just in this current Coronavirus crisis, but generally.....the problem with our society currently is there is no capital or even corporal punishment...........the only way to maintain discipline is for the police to enforce the law, catch those who choose to transgress, and for the judiciary to have the power to apply a sentence that will make these people fear the price they will pay for their actions! Society will always get a few who will choose to break the rules/law....but with poor enforcement and little fear........many more will be encouraged to take the chance! That it seems, is where we are currently.

I think it’s down to the “engineer” you get! Some can’t be bothered, some don’t want to be there, some are just going through the motions....I expect a competent, professional service for my money............that was another reason we changed our contractor.

We left the British Gas boiler service contract we had a couple of years ago........wasn’t impressed with the standard of technician, service or the call out fee! Got a local independent gas safe engineer/firm in to service our gas boiler and gas fire, very thorough, so we took out a service contract with them, yearly service and unlimited free call outs.....about the same monthly cost as British Gas........but no callout fee! I recommended them to my sister in law who had a replacement complete CH system installed by them, and also took out a service contract.....my son has also had his Boiler serviced and has taken out a service contract........both very pleased with the service! I have no problem using/supporting a local firm like this.......if they provide a quality service! This is where I suggest you look too....local!

Air rifle........and join/check out a shooting organisation/association for insurance! Forget the .22 for inside work “too much gun”.....I experimented with fairground ammo years ago, that broke up on impact but it wasn’t successful!

Criticism where criticism Is due is fair enough.....continual and ongoing criticism and negativity is self defeating, in that it erodes credibility, is boring and has no impact.......if you want an example?..........You could do no better than listen to Jeremy Corbin!

Judging from reports, things are getting bad over there? How are you faring in NC? I suppose where you live self isolating is not much of a problem?

What were the chances of their fast track application succeeding........considering the Corvid 19 pandemic....everything including the courts are in lockdown for the foreseeable!....I suggest that was likely the main reason they withdrew their fast track application? But good news re: the acceptance of our representative organisations for “Interested parties” status, in the JR (when/if it happens)

Debt yes! But debt to whom? All countries are spending their reserves and borrowing, trying to keep people alive! So all countries will be in the same boat......dunno of any country that has the monetary reserves to protect themselves and lend billions £ to the UK?..... Whatever cost, It has to be done, if this country goes bankrupt? Many, many other will too!

Isn’t this what we suspect the animal extremists of doing? When their allegations reach court, and if the accused are subsequently acquitted, doesn’t that suggest the witnesses for the prosecution have either perjured themselves and/or conspired to pervert the course of justice?
