  1. I make electric vehicles for a living and am heavily involved in battery design, procurement and end of life for batteries. Firstly you are correct - battery can make up 25% or so of the cost to make the vehicle. life-wise they are less of an issue - the newer battery technology will last a long time. The battery management system protects it from “lifing” itself from aggressive charging or power demand from the rest of the vehicle. there are companies who will re-manufacture batteries with the goal to have a re-man battery available for older vehicles at a cost which makes sense to put a new battery in an old vehicle. There will soon also be the possibility to “upgrade” older vehicles with better batteries as cell technology advances. I run a mild hybrid so not pure EV - why don’t I run pure EV? Not down to the vehicles, simply because of the lack of charging infrastructure - many of my fishing locations would be inaccessible with pure EV as I could get there but not get back!
  2. Ps. Don’t pay for an online newspaper subscription...most local libraries get you online access to newspapers and magazines for free, through pressreader or a similar app. I can read the telegraph, shooting times, the field etc etc and costs nothing.
  3. I read that yesterday and did think great we have an ally in the house at least.
  4. I don’t know about other models...I know on the 2wd version the button is there and does something to traction control settings but as to whether all 4wd versions have it not sure.
  5. I am a member. well worth joining, some stunning bits of the Severn and you usually don’t see another angler. If you game fish, it’s worth it just for the quality of game waters available. I don’t live anywhere near paas waters now but still keep membership for game fishing.
  6. I’ve owned both crv and Rav. crv better for comfort and bigger boot. Rav better on fuel, more sturdily built and better off road due to locking diff.
  7. Exactly this. Having handled most of the ATA models and then a silver pigeon and a 525 straight after and switching back between the two there really is no comparison in quality or handling. for a new gun you get a lot of ATA for your money. When you compare to a used quality gun, they are a lot less attractive. I bought a 15 year old SP for less than £700 over buying a new ATA.
  8. I saw a pic as I flicked through and thought Richard Hammond had died.
  9. I believe the concerns about the perceived “rush” are unfounded...these vaccines have been given absolute top priority with pretty much bottomless budgets - this is not something which has happened before. So they haven’t been rushed, they have been prioritised. Prof VT himself has said this morning he’d be at the front of the queue if he could be and I agree with him. The MHRA will not approve this if it isn’t safe. The vaccine mechanisms cannot be compared to disasters such as thalidomide etc, there is a big job to avoid pseudoscience misinformation nonsense like people spread about MMR which could reduce uptake. Once approved, personally my view would be it should be compulsory. You’re not going to school / work / university / holiday without being able to demonstrate that you’ve been vaccinated...by far the best way to protect the vulnerable. I have some scientific / medical knowledge and experience but we have to as lay people trust the medics and the science - Facebook epidemiologists or Dave down the pub or Sharon in the school playground are not the views to be listened to - go on the evidence, which at the moment looks very positive. (That said, Russia are today claiming their vaccine is >90% effective - I do not believe they can be trusted and I similarly wouldn’t be trusting anything Chinese.).
  10. As I thought...still not old enough to pull off a cravat! I will stick to my tie if we actually get to shoot this year!
  11. I’m tempted for game shooting rather than the standard tie... acceptable or 🔔end?
  12. What a load of anti-vax pseudoscience nonsense. A vaccine will result in herd immunity, herd immunity will protect the vulnerable. it is fantastic news and should hopefully mean the chances of multiple effective vaccines are looking much better and this Chinese nightmare can end at some point soon(ish).
  13. I have spent a lot of time in America - I really like it and I always get on with Americans. I am yet to meet one who hasn’t claimed to be Irish.
  14. I’m no fan of Trump but I am concerned that a demented old lefty terrorist sympathising pro Europe anti Protestant president is bad news for the UK.
  15. Go somewhere and handle an ATA against a Beretta (which they have blatantly copied but with a different mechanism) - I did exactly that recently when looking for a new O/U for the game season. On paper ATA is a hell of a lot of gun for the money, and it is in the flesh. However...handle a silver pigeon during the same visit and they really don’t compare. Buy a used silver pigeon or browning 525.
  16. I have a 58 plate 2.2D4D which replaced a petrol Crv. I will never sell it. It never drops below 50mpg, I have Bridgestone duellers all round and it goes anywhere. Easy to maintain, has not had anything other than services, brakes and tyres and it coming up to 90k on the clock. definitely recommend them.
  17. My first car was a 1980s Fiat Panda 4x4 - it was brilliant. So light it would go anywhere as instead of sinking into mud it sort of skipped across the top of mud and snow. I have to agree though, 25ish years later, I now drive my children around in the safest car on the road (Volvo XC60) and there is no way I would let them near anything like that old Panda - it was like driving around in a biscuit tin an it seems the crash safety hasn’t really improved! It was much more capable off road than my Volvo is though, despite its clever air suspension and computer controls, put 22” drug dealer wheels and a smear of rubber on a 4x4 and it is pretty useless! (Not my choice, company car!).
  18. Hmmm I haven’t caught a grayling since March, that sounds a good plan but the Derbyshire rivers are probably still too high and coloured this weekend I think.
  19. Agreed, get it set up professionally. I had never done this but was persuaded to by a bloke at work and I was stunned by how much easier it was to play.
  20. And there was a Swedish epidemiologist on the radio last week saying that their government had suppressed releasing the true number of cases.
  21. I am very quick to criticise people not following the rules, but there is little logic in these rules. under tier 3 (which I currently am) I could go game shooting. under new lockdown, I cannot go game shooting, but I am able to go to work in an office with no opening windows, no ventilation and multiple difficulties keeping a safe distance (I work in manufacturing). I will of course follow the rules but I am mightily annoyed about the game shoots which in now cannot attend - all because in the short term people failed to follow simple rules and going back to root cause, because the commy Chinese Government at best covered up the disease they allowed to occur or at worst released the disease they created through the incompetence of Chinese “researchers”.
  22. It isn’t looking very good for game shooting at the moment - if golf is being refused which appears to be the case it’s a harder argument despite us all knowing game shooting can be done safely outside and distanced.
  23. I am really hoping BASC sort something out otherwise I suspect that’s it, we won’t have a game season this year at all as I am very doubtful that the lockdown will end in early December as it will need to be extended due to idiots not following to rules and the Chinese disease prevalence being too high. Perhaps the season could be extended through February and March?
