Hi youngairgunner yes I sympathise with the sensible among young drivers but the fact remains there is an element who are a danger to themselves and others on the road. Within a 20 mile radius of where I live, and it is on the coast there must have been at least 10 fatalities over the past two years involving young drivers on rural roads. Unfortunately I have just heard of another where the driver and passenger were burned to death. Even more unfortunate they did not collide with the usual tree or brick wall but with a family going about their normal busines, some of whom suffered serious injuries. Blackpowder

The little man is a despicable twit and would reckon he knows as much about the countryside , wildlife and its management as ,"a dog knows about its own father." That quote was by the late Charlie Maguire of Isle of Whithorn in Wigtonshire, one of lifes great characters who I was priviliged to know all to briefly many years ago. Charlie was fond of using that expression when he encountered bull*******s. A description which fits the little **** to a T

Thanks for the reply all, I had no intention of indulging merely curious and as it happens there is plenty information about moonshine and potcheen on the web. One in fact tells how to go through the process from a home brew beer kit. Blackpowder

I wonder if any forum members can satisfy my curiosity on a simple matter, or rather two simple matters. (1) If you distilled a quantity of beer, would the result be whisky and would it be drinkable. (2) Ditto wine would it be brandy and would it be drinkable. Bear in mind that the process of home distillation is illegal. Blackpowder

when you say "valet" , does that mean boyfriend ? . it sounds like you is a " brace " of ******* B) Good lord no dear chap, one was merely being polite. Usually I refer to Higginsbottom simply as , "my man", as in manservant. Ecctually I have also forbidden the chep to carry our accoutrements for a night out clubbing in a manbag. Seriously I know someone who called the proprietors of a local pub, "a pair of poofs". His feet never touched the ground until he was in the major police station 30 miles away. blackpowder

I dont need a manbag my valet carrys my comb, toiletries, various appliances, cigars, lighter and odd change for tips to minions.

Poacher I think the trouble is that many people take for Gospel what is on the telly, hopefully in the case of The Nature of Britain this will work in the sport's favour Regards Blackpowder

Could not agree more webber, but it is annoying when someone in his position uses a situation for his own glorification but neglects to give the full picture to a viewing audience. blackpowder

Just watched Alan Titmarsh in Nature of Britain, at last a television programme which acknowledged the benefits to wildlife and landscape where pheasants are reared for sporting purposes. I have watched a programme with a certain short a---d presenter, coming form a farm shoot where the said short a---d presenter extolled the amount of wild life, but never mentioned that the habitat it enjoyed was created for pheasant shooting. Well done Mr Titmarsh. blackpowder

Until last year shot with hammer guns for the greater part of shooting career begun in 1958, fired a few blackpowder shells in that time. Glorious feeling standing ate the end of a pheasant drive , shrouded in gunsmoke and a bird or two to pick

Hello Brian As Blackpowder suggests I am a fan of vintage British Guns, a good boxlock ejector from a Birmingham or provincial maker will give years of service. Most recent to my stable is a W.R. Pape boxlock ejector, sleeved barrels and two and threequarter chambers. The wood is brilliant, the balance and handling superb for under £1000.

Heard of someone in the Lothian and Borders Police area who was convicted of dd . Allegedly he had to appear in person before chief constable in Edinburgh and apologise, but to my knowledge he retained f/a and s/g certificates. This was perhaps five years ago. As already quoted,"is a drunk driver a fit person to hold f/a or s/g certs.

Someone told me years ago, although I have never tried this that setting up dead birds for decoys using elder twigs keeps flies away. Have any members tried this.
-
Where are you located Tony, up here in the Borders most of the beans sown this spring are just poking their heads through the ground
-
Dont be afraid to add dead birds to your decoy pattern the more the merrier, as someone said earlier pigeon are a flock bird - the more grey you can put on the field the better the pulling power. Good shooting
