  1. Anyone else getting trouble with the mag not dropping through the post on a Wednesday ? (or maybe Tuesday they say it can be) I have been getting it the following Monday or Tuesday if I am lucky, a total useless service of late. Called three times and its no better with two mags still not arriving for ten days, cant see the point in continuing. Chiefy
  2. I don't know what you are all worried about, we have been freezing and wet up here since last October, never been getting above 14*C, The last three weeks of our Indian summer have been the driest here in the WoS since last year. Chiefy
  3. My old fella drove up till he was 93, nowt wrong with his driving, he revved the hell out of it as he couldn't hear the engine. You are required to renew your license every ten years, up till 90 years old, after that its every three years. When he was 90 I took some of his photos, god knows what age he was in them for the renewal, as a really old guy looks like a really old guy in a photo. Some times he was a bit like a ghost train driver when he was younger though, not so in later life. Have you ever been in a car with an off duty cop,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,its like they are driving a get away car. Chiefy
  4. I don't know if this helps you but in several weeks if not imminently, Houston at Turningshaw Road will be black with geese, from now until next year. Looking toward the pine trees and forest from the road, where the bales are just now is there patch, every year in and out all day, I see them every Sunday stopping and watching them before turning down the lane to shoot clays, have you approached any of the farmers ? Chiefy
  5. Used a large Owl for many years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I would say that after 20 years it makes no real difference, being where crows gather and having a few decoys and using a good call such as a Lohman will do the trick way better, the crow call can be essential as you can hear replies off in the distance and they will come to investigate, if you learn when to lay off calling. Never use a call sequence of three caws as this is their alarm signal, use groups of 4 caws interspersed with some two caw calls in a different tones, get out and listen to birds, then join in and learn from there. 6. Nearly ditto, I love mine, would love the kick off version, brilliant in every way,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and like them so much I am picking up a new Xtreme Optidade tomorrow also, and trading in a brand new virtually unused Silver Pigeon 1 which I paid extra to have an adjustable comb fitted in against it, two new A400 Berettas in the one year,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,brilliant. 7. Well I went, wouldn't have said it was worth the two hour drive from the other side of Yorkshire, some inside stalls were good the outside stuff was a bit of a washout. Similar in size to the BASC at Cardross Tam, but a little smaller, though given time should come to better things. the Pigeon Shooter stand was located well I'm a corner on the inside stalls. Chiefy
  8. Leave them as they are, the water will run off the bearers and off the slabs, when we sold sheds we always wanted the area slightly larger. Chiefy
  9. Hardwood timber merchant 13years,( yes all rain forest material and Teak from Burmha etc etc) Prison Officer for 15 years,,,,,,,,,,,resigned and left as nowt to do all day, but shoot the breeze. I am now a Facilities Manager in commercial property management. quite different but each day is good Chiefy
  10. Yeah if you take the plug out and have a FAC, this ghost loading is how by leaving the plug in the mag tube restricted to two by law here and in most US States. Chiefy
  11. Lol made me laugh there. On cleaning the gun taking the piston chamber and its two strange nuts and spring apart is a right pain, so beware. Also if you attempt to strip the varnish off id leave it alone, the coating is a special expoxy resin, no Nitromors will touch it, glass scrapers and hours of work and tears will do it though and then oil the stock to own something nice. Chiefy
  12. I used to do the old pull through from behind and take your chance and fire, After a lesson from Ben Husthwaite and quite some practise I now shoot the same shot every time, I don't see lead or bring the gun up behind, the gun has two speeds once moving, sort of like below Exactly half way View Point-------------------------------------------------------Pick up point-----------------------------------------------Kill Point where you see first see the bird one speed tracking flight pulling away quicker on firing A good lesson or two will work wonders as some of you may and are by the sound of it combining shooting styles, and losing track of what is best on each target, or using the same style every time. 13. Tam,,,,,,have you been is it worth going ? I have my housekeeper away with me next week and she refuses to drive. Chiefy
  14. Yes, in theory look on U tube for ghost loading a Beretta. Chiefy
  15. Just ordered another a400 Xtreme Action Optifade, this will sit with my A400 Action Xplor Light which is superb, may have to get rid of a new Silver Pigeon that has only had 400 shells through it as I need the room, shame as I had the stock altered so it has an adjustable comb. Chiefy
  16. Sorry not for me, I wont go near manual traps, and I'm gonna be two weeks behind in the winter comps if I take a third Sunday off. Chiefy
  17. I'm coming down to Settle for a week and looked this up, I arrive on this Saturday and have a gig lined up that night locally, would it be worth the two hour drive on the Sunday to visit this affair ? Is there much traffic queuing to get in ? Chiefy
  18. First off joining two wide boards will lead to a total mess of a project, good practice would be to split these in to max 150mm boards and turn so the centre board is now opposing the outside two, this will prevent the board from cupping or twisting when joined to the other board that has also been split, same as the first 450 board. On the underside small clamping blocks can be secured to the outermost boards and large sash cramps used to clamp the 900 board together from the underside leaving the waney edge on as desired. Waterproof PVA glue should suffice with no need for biscuits, sanding and finishing oak is as hard as it gets, make sure all your tools are sharpened before you start and during the work. Any good tungsten tipped blade will do, the more teeth the better finish and use the saw knife to prevent the blade jamming up and leaving a burn mark as its difficult to sand out totally, additionally prevent any water from the area as the steel clamps will react with the oak and result in a reaction to the contact area producing a blue indigo dye on the wood that is impossible to remove. (only oak does this) As for the finish this will depend on what you are preparing on the surface, if it is food stuffs then a brand of wooden worktop oil is the safest all round, normally I use boiled linseed oil. 19. Too much of this goes on, and to the trusting sort it is hard to develop any mutual respect further down the line. Nearly went onto say a few words more on this, though I know people who view this forum as guests go on to shaft you, and do lots more damage behind your back, Myself and others have tested this checked these few people. Currently I am still looking for a bud with a dog for the same ground that lives near me, gotta keep trying. Chiefy
  20. Why not use a Kodi Box ? Chiefy
  21. I have one of these also : Beretta Xplor a400 Light, very short stock and wood so you could shorten it, the gun is circa 6lbs so not nice with heavy shells, their Xtreme 3,1/2" chambered versions can handle anything and their stocks are advertised at 14" and then use spacers, plenty of second hand versions around, to suit your pocket. Chiefy
  22. Thanks all, I have got six Fuds and a DJ call to start with. Don't mind buying more Fuds I have not shot at the Geese at all,,, I have been letting them get accustomed to the area(field) for some time, both flight lines are good, under the oaks on the north edge of the Poachy Glen( real name from the map Google it) so easy to just wait under a tree, and over the heather moor on the south, just need to sit beside the wall or gorse bush and wait for them flying onto the Reservoir. Chiefy
  23. No idea, works fine for me, try switching it off at the wall,,,,,,,,,lol Chiefy
