I caution my guns and beaters every week when its like this A few years ago the lake we have had frozen over - One of our guns sent his dog to retrieve a pheasant much to many protesting. As the dog got to the bird the ice broke and the dog fell in and could not get out - The gun jumped in and started to smash the ice and try to get to the dog - just before he reached the dog it jumped out of the ice and came to land - A couple of us by now had some barrels / feeders and threw these to the chap and he got out. Thank God - all he suffered was cut arms from the ice and mild hypothermia - but it could have been disaster -This happened perhaps 20 years ago and we talk about it so much it seems like yesterday.

Thats a shame - you could keep the locations secret - i suppose its time too Simon Anyway you are doing a great job and inspiring others to get out and do the same - Not killing for killings sake but targeted effective control We have been doing the same on ours and coupled with habitat management and supplementary feeding the results have been nothing short of astounding -

Countryfile - shooting's role in the countryside

It was ok - but really missed the main points - If they came to our little shoot we would blow that rewilding project out of the water for biodiversity Also bit of an own goal not eating pheasant on the shoot day ! I thought anyway -

I agree - our little shoot 300 acres has create cover and we see a few dozen a season in the midlands - we put down a couple of thousand birds I used to shoot in Lincolnshire on a big estate and one wood they had called the Block was absolutely teaming with pheasants ... and woodcock. I have also seen the same on some of the big shoots in Scotland
