  1. OK have had a nice work round and spotted at least 3 foxes, a large number of rabbits, Pigeons and Crows so I have plenty to go at. Couple of questions on the general licence...there is no arable farming on his farm so does this mean I cannot take pigeons as they are not damaging "his" crops. Same thing regarding the crows.
  2. Yes I can apply now but its not something I had given any thought too before. Is it worth applying for a FAC and buying a rifle or could I do the job with what I have?
  3. Yes the main reason is I have never done it. I have shot foxes with a rifle at night with a friend but I have never done hunted foxes myself with a shotgun. I have flushed a few out when beating or walking up on a small shoot I go on but its no ground game for safety reasons and I really wouldn't know where to start. Thanks Steve I have an ATA Bronze and an old English s&s. Could try a mag light with a bit of gorilla tape?
  4. Hi All. I have just been given permission from a work colleague to shoot his 100 acre farm for the purpose of vermin control. Now this sounds great but its left me with a dilemma...he main pests are rabbits and Foxes and this is what he wants controlling but I only have a SGC. Now I know I could get a moderated 410 for the bunnies but I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to control foxes with a Shotgun. So the questions I have are: What are the best way to control foxes and bunnies without a rifle? Is it worth applying for my FAC and if so what would be the best rifle/calibre etc for the job? Are there any restrictions on selling bunnies (lead shot etc) that I do kill? Thanks in advance for any answers.

  7. I always thought Wild Boar were only confined to the south of England but I was driving along the Coventry bypass on route to the M69 yesterday when I saw a large Mammal dead on the central reservation. The traffic was very slow moving and as I went passed I looked at what I initially thought was a Badger but when I passed to discover it wasn't a Badger but a wild Boar. Looked like a juvenile but couldn't tell the sex. Is this normal? Have Wild Boar moved that far North?
  8. This one and the last one have been very dull
  9. Agree, a couple of years beating opens lots of doors
  10. Well they shouldn't give up May day which is far more important to our history than a Saint given to us by our Norman overlords because they didn't want us celebrating an English Saint like Cuthbert.
  11. Got 2 on a clear up day on my local syndicate shoot. Both big fat *******.
  12. Argentina doesnt have the means to mount an invasion, its airforce is grounded due to lack of fuel and aircraft they still have left after the last war, their navy is rusting in its ports due to lack of spares and crews that have been made redundant due to budget cuts. Uncle Albert in a rubber dingy could patrol the islands and the Argies would still think twice.
  13. Remember fishing in a match a few years ago and some stupid so and so had let their dog off the lead and it was chasing the cows in field. He actually thought the dog was playing with the cows. We had an ex copper with us who went over and informed him that the farmer could and probably would shoot his dog if he saw what was happening. The bloke to his credit put his dog on the lead and said he would take more care in future. Some people just need telling.
  14. Every xmas we have a large number of HGV drivers come over for peak, this has been only possible since free movement. I dont agree with lots of what the EU stands for and does but the genre is out the bottle I am afraid, dont like it but I think we are stuck with it.
  15. In! sorry work in an industry that would grind to a halt without EU workers. Plus 9% of stuff we import comes from the EU but 50% of the stuff we export goes to the EU.
  16. Yeah struggling with it a bit this season, the whole Alexander thing is taking some swallowing but Im glad the little whiney kid got eaten along with his mardy teenage brother.
  17. Is it a cull/Vermin shoot? Seen something similar on You tube with Canada Geese being shot from those coffins that American Wildfowlers like to use. They bagged up a good haul and the farmer liked it that way. Despatching a bird by swinging a shotgun like that is bad drills though and behaviour like that wouldnt be welcome on any shoot I have been on.
  18. It goes a bit deeper, all western cultures including the UK and US have massive problems with subscription anti depressents, add to that a big portion of gun related deaths in the US are suicides the right to own a firearm seems to be fuelling a serious mental health problem they have in the USA. As a responsible UK gun owner I think its crazy that there isnt tighter back ground checks in the US given the amount of firearms in the market place. If I was in the US and went hunting and shooting I would hate the bad publisity these mass shootings were bringing to my sport and would be demanding the NRA lobbied congress for tighter control, surely its the responsible thing to do?
  19. Got one myself for a few quid more than you paid, good for a bit of target practice and Ive nailed a few woodies with is too at about 20 yards. I am well pleased with it, looking for a little range to do some proper target shooting with it.
  20. I have seen Basking sharks in Scotland before and that was 30 years ago, believe it or not they were being harponed for dog food! them and Porbeagles have been around for ever.
  21. Its OK but not a patch on Gordons or homemade stuff

  23. True but the extra room is a godsend when getting babies and toddlers out the car.
  24. Nailed my first woodie with a clean neck shot last week. Dropped him stone dead from about 15m. Had the breasts in pitta bread with salad and chilli sauce.
