  1. Beretta did do early 28's on 20 bore action but not for a long time. They have been on dedicated 28 actions for some time now. Call GMK and said already give serial No. and can help better. This came apparent to me when I bought a stock for a 28. I was asked by the workshop what action was it. So yes there was some with 20 bore actions.
  2. +1 And the gun shop couldn't tell you??

I've fitted Hausken MD45's to quite few rifles. No complaints. Lightweight and fairly short. Cheap too.
  4. ATA's are fine for the money imo.. but if you have the funds go for a second hand Beretta...always.
  5. LMAO.... It's not just me then!!
  6. I replaced one twice on a guys gun. They burn out and the ring gets burnt up. He shoots it a lot though but personally I feel it's not good.
  7. They are loctited on. A bit of heat and they unscrew. I convert them all the time for people who get a slot on their fac.
  8. The proof requirements are that the magazine is crimped for the chamber size... in your case not to allow more than 2 3.5" cartridges in the magazine. The fact it holds 3 2.5" cartridges is up to you whether you wish to put them up there. A policeman might have something to say like 3 in the magazine is sec. 1 but it is crimped legally for that chamber/cartridge. Don't know if anyone has been caught out yet.
  9. Got a stock sorted now guys. Thank you for all your offers and help. Phil
  10. Hi there, I'm looking for a stock to fit the Remington 870 wingmaster pump action. Anything considered as long as its in 1 piece and serviceable. ie: I don't mind having to refinish it. Thanks. Phil
  11. Field stocks are smaller in dimension (height and width at toe and heel) than Sporter stocks. Whenever I order OE butt plates or pads off the boys in the work shop at GMK they always ask because of this. So you will have either a Field or a Sporter 687. Assuming it is all original.
  12. Exactly. Well put. After Hungerford (1987) a lot of gunsmiths did many, many mag restrictions. I still have my converted pipe cutter and still do one every now and then. Some still come in that have slipped through the net from private imports from the Forces and elsewhere. I am near Newbury and up until a few years ago I still had people with pumps not even proofed, let alone mag restricted coming in where someone from Greenham Common air base sold their gun and went back to the States. I even have had a gunshop try to sell a new FAC one but then decided to crimp it as some one wanted it on a S2. It's easy if you're willing to wait a few weeks and spend a few pounds.
  13. £180.00 for a Silvers pad properly fitted I would say is a very good price. They are at least double the work to fit and finish than a continental pad. That's roughly what I charge. The pads cost £60.00 to start with. I know some charge a lot more than that for a Silvers pad. There is lot of work in a Silvers pad. Do the people that slate the price know what a Silvers pad looks like before you even start to fit it? It sounds like you had a good person to do the work. Someone doing a job properly who does for a living is not a rip off merchant at that price let me tell you.
  14. London Proof House..... hmmmm. I don't send there anymore. I use Birmingham and they are usually 2 - 4 weeks but usually 4.
  15. Not sure, but guns bought at auction with out of proof barrels are sold to dealers only as stock action and fore end only. If the dealer wants the barrels for sleeving them then the auction house must "chip" the barrels. IE cut a slot in the barrels around 6 inches from the face as per regulations. PM me the dealers name. I'll shop him. Not sure why you tagged me though. Do I know them?
  16. We both know he is breaking the law Gunman. You and I have spent a long time in our trade doing what we do. Sadly all someone needs to do these days is convince the police that they have a need for an rfd certificate and they get free reign to tear into someones gun not knowing a thing about what they are doing. Also the in my experience the police neither the proof house will do anything about it. That is a fact. I have reported two or three "dealers" for proof offences and one blatantly trading off his shotgun licence. The police on that one said they will continue to monitor him ?????? He has just had his licence renewed! And still they buried there head in the sand when I complained again. He deals out of a garden shed and I am telling the truth. I also have reported a couple of times or more to the proof house (both) about out of proof guns being sold that came in for strip and clean. The says oh, I just bought that. And they say ummmmm, we'll make a note of it. Ummmmmm it's difficult to prove...?? One day it'll literally blow up and the whole trade will all suffer.

  18. What lovely history. Can't go wrong with an AyA No.2.
  19. This is my go to gun. Had it a number of years now having rescued it from a fellow gunsmith who doesn't do barrel work. Had a scrapper of a dent in it which I managed to save and clean the rest up. It's a Clarke of Leicester with the Midland Gun Works address. It's essentially a Webley action made for Clarkes with interceptor sears. I absolutely love this gun. Fits me like a glove and no matter what might be tempting to take shooting from all the guns I have access to I always take "Clarkey". Don't get me wrong I can miss birds too but I get lots of comments from my o/u shooting friends like, "how can you shoot so well with old thing"? Or, "you're not bringing that old gun of yours on our big day are you"?...... Of course, why wouldn't I? And it's nice to keep the Damascus barrel flag flying. 28 or 30g 6's for everything. Whatever I have at the time. Roll on shooting season.
  20. I have found that some of the longer scopes sometimes need shimming to get the correct elevation adjustment on some centre fire rifles. (do't ask me why. I don't know why but they sometimes do) For this I use and have always used film negative.
  21. Or you could go to your local gun shop and get them to offer up a few and find the correct ones and they might even fit them and the scope F.O.C. I do..... Customer is well pleased and remembers the good turn and usually comes back. But I do appreciate you might rather save a pound or two. Good thinking. Or film negative is what I use but harder to find. I have a stash from my younger days stored away.
