  1. I have a set of millets rings on the way that I might try taking a file to to gain a few more millimetres in the hope I can get it close enough. Ideally I need 2cm, but I think I can get 1cm with a slightly higher set of rings and a file. If that’s comfy enough it should hopefully do. I don’t particularly want to add more layers of variability between the rifle and the scope of possible.
  2. Hopefully this illustrates the problem getting the scope far enough towards the shoulder. The second photo is of my other rifle also with an S&B 6x42 (an older one which seems to have 1cm shorter eye relief. The length of pull is more or less identical between the stocks. Below is my cz452, it comes up to the shoulder for a perfect view every time, like mounting my favourite shotgun, which is what I am trying to replicate on the no1 but hopefully without resorting to the comb riser. The scope on the 452 is a shorter eye relief, but allowing for the difference it seems I need to move the scope on the no1 back about 2cm which will require slightly higher rings and a rearward offset.
  3. Ruger no1 in 22-250 with an S&B 6x42.
  4. They look like this... https://shopruger.com/4BO-Offset-Medium-Scope-Ring-with-Blued-Finish/productinfo/90276/ The problem is they don’t seem to be available in the uk and nobody with them in the states seems willing to post to the uk.
  5. I think my favourite shotgun has twenty five inch barrels (12g). Very fast to mount and swing, just like the advocates of smaller gauges seem to implore of their guns.
  6. Mine floats enough to run a banknote between the stock and barrel but it’s definitely not a huge gap.
  7. I’m struggling to get a no1 set up with a S&B 6x42 and am looking for a offset ring (one inch or 30mm ok) and matching height standard ring. Ideally blued but would take anything.
  8. I use distilled vinegar, dill, mustard seeds, and chilli flakes for mine.
  9. I seem to remember about a year ago posting on a forum about maturing mild cheddar at home, finding nobody who had done it, and then promising to provide an update after giving it a crack. I can confirm that the tesco value mild rubber cheddar turns into a nice crumbly very nice and slightly crunchy cheddar after a year in a corner of the cellar in the original packaging. Best cheddar I have had at <£10/kg ever.
  10. I use gold label, twice a year usually.
  11. We pay (and then claim back) twenty something pounds a month for broadband and phone. The better half’s employer won’t reimburse over thirty pounds a month if I remember rightly so they must feel that is a reasonable upper limit for cost. I'm not sure if she pays benefit in kind on it.

    LPG

http://www.go-lpg.co.uk/Skid_units.html These people may be of use or there may be a more local supplier of note for you, so long as your local tanker chap is prepared to fill your own tank.
  13. I got a used leica 8x42 set for that and they are the dogs danglies, especially in low light. For optics I only ever buy second hand and quality, then go back in age until you get something that fits the budget from a suitable quality manufacture.
  14. I packed mine with carbon felt, replace the catalysts when they wear out (about £10 for 10), and run on panel wipe. Cotton wool is fine but hard to get good enough contact with the base of the catalyst without frequent adjustments every few uses as the cotton wool shrinks back. With the carbon felt you just get it set up right once and thats it. Also takes more fuel as you can get a consistent contact at the catalyst without having to pack as much material in.

    LPG

I asked a delivery guy fueling up one of our neighbours a few days after noting after this thread. Apparently they do provide equipment for it and have a few customers using it to fuel cars/plant though its not hugely common.

    LPG

I used to use some plant that was fuelled from a calor heating tank via a hand operated pump. I understand that meant home fuel rates were paid which at present would be about 40ppl. You would of course have to keep records and pay the extra duty each year however the savings of buying in bulk might outweigh the hassle, especially if also running a cooker or heating in the home from the tank.

    Rayburn advice

Around here oil ones seem to be much cheaper, and the old vaporising burners are very easy to service by oneself. I save £400 a year vs my colleague with a gas one on servicing which covers rather a lot of oil.
  18. I use a smart trainer plus a road bike infront of a large tv, a fan, and some software called Rouvy running on an itv. it’s still cycling in your house but it has enough routes I have ridden in real life to almost provide the illusion that I am out on a summer afternoon enjoying a ride, not in my cellar in winter. If I could get the resistance to reliably calibrate I could race a few old friends who now live elsewhere round some old places we used to ride. There are other software alternatives like zwift and a few more but I prefer to try and persuade myself I’m outside rather than playing a very painful version of Mariokart.

    Handwarmers

Slight smell occasionally but not unpleasant. It was more noticeable when working in a confined cold space but outdoors I never notice.

    Handwarmers

It’s used in car body work as a final degreaser to remove fingerprints etc before spraying, and is essentially naptha, you find it in five litre or bigger containers in autofactors. I think Halfords do it in much smaller containers but for almost the same price

    Handwarmers

I use the Chinese peacock knockoffs and run them on panel wipe. A 5 litre drum is about £15 and will last till you die or leave the lid off and it all evaporates. New catalysts are cheap if imported from China.

    Fox size

I saw a beast of a fox driving to work the other morning just before dawn. Most terrifyingly it clearly knew its green cross code.
  23. Could be good for wildfowlers. Could be a disaster for game shooting if the antis get exclusions on payments if birds are released on the ground. There is potential for a or a huge amount of good but the devil is in the detail.
  24. I sweep twice a year but that is open fires. Screwfix will do you a set of rods and a brush for less than a slab of clay bangers.
  25. We fortunately still have our usual incomes but I am glad to have enough stashed away to tide me through a couple of years with a tight belt, and feel sorry for anyone who hasn’t been able to put that aside to fall back on if need be.
