  1. Do not have any problem in this old house. We have cluster flies come into the roof every winter and have plenty of spiders and a lot of the daddy long types which I understand are not acrually spiders. Like a horror film when you go up the stairs to the attics with webs crisscrossing from one side to the other.
  2. Yep the right foot has a lot to do with it. I have driven on the rev counter since the 60s, got used to it driving competition cars and with my Duster 1800 to2000 revs appears to be the magic point. It does have a fancy little green arrow as well to tell you when to change up and down but I just watch the rev counter. I still say, unless you intend hauling large trailers, the Duster would meet all requirements unless your a greenlaner. I just popped it into 4 wheel drive this morning and drove up a grass bank 35-40deg slope without a problem and that is on basic town tyres..... there again revs and your right foot also come into play in such circumstances.
  3. Well I was told by our supplier it would be deducted from our bill automatically and on the last statement there was a credit of £132.... obviously Hunt, finger almost slipped there, has taxed it.
  4. We have not seen them for a couple of seasons but Long Tailed Tits have suddenly appeared again in our wood. Why? Do not have a clue but brill to see them back on the feed tables. Masses of others, Blues, Greats, Coal along with half a dozen nuthatch and of course always the Robin. Have not seen or heard any of that green garbage yet, even at the golf club which is smack against a city environment. Tree rats getting in short supply so they would add to the daily pellet count.
  5. I don't worry about anything I can't do anyhting about BUT come the election I will be Reforming. I just made another caramel apple cake, videos later in food and drink. Very ripe Spartan apples sliced and mixed in the sponge mixture with home grown walnuts and a caranel covering.
  6. Classic remark from the Duke of Edinburgh when asked how he was keeping...."Well bits keep droppong off " was his reply.
  7. I think I said ;joint' so quite a bit more meat on it although there steaks are first class as well.
  8. BUT I see them wobbling down the High Street covered in expensive tattoos and hanging out around the bookies, come off it. You just cut your cloth.
  9. Same here but not the African bit. My granny used to say " Waste not Want not"
  10. Well I am having some difficulty in getting the old legs working myself and sometimes I have to sit down because of the pain BUT I watched Archie with Jackie Charlton the other night getting around on two ally sticks and thought...keep at it, keep at it. If he can do it so can you. Agreed , a Legend.
  11. I keep reading how folks just cannot afford to eat. My wife purchased a small piece of sirloin from Aldi for less than a fiver. We roasted it and had two meals, it was delicious. There was some left over so last night we had some chips and an egg and some more of the beef sliced cold...Ohhhh these is still some left over so this evening we are having a beef curry poured over a large jacket potato and then two huge Bramleys baked/stuffed with sultanas, butter and honey. WHAT are they doing wrong?

    Log burner

Fitted 32 years ago and has had one replacement of window seals, £20 including postage. Still doing the job in spades.............
  13. I purchased a full suit for my wife a fair while ago now and have not seen them advertised since....Sasta made in Finland who apparently make all the Finnish Military stuff as well. It is still perfect and water proof plus nice and light which was one reason she took to it. Be cautious of any that make you pay to have their name emblazoned on the chest. Usually rip offs.
  14. Can't refuse that Ditchie now can you? Nice report MM and sometimes a little water running down your neck is worth it.

    Flappers

Excellent, pity about the bloody awful music.
  16. I remember some scope rimgs coming with thin rubberised inners. I just lay mine straight in the mounts as I don't envisage ever taking the scope off again. Just make sure the mount rings are tight because once I did have a scope move about half an inch but that was a heavy load in my 375JDJ.
  17. Article in the Telegraph this morning of a guy getting hooked by a boar In Portugal and lost an arm and a leg. Be carefull out there, keep shooting till they stop wriggling.
  18. I had a similar one....well a client did, down at Postlebury so not a nillion niles away. He was over the moon with it and I have to admit they do make interesting reminders of a day out and to me that is what it is all about. I have a squidgy tiny little set, just two thin 2 inch spikes on my trophy wall but consider them the most interesting of all I have shot in 40 odd years on roe. I can relive the moment in full detail now thirty eight years later when I have to stop and think what I had for lunch yesterday.
  19. As you say beggars can't be choosers, but it is frustrating when they wont sit still, having said that your still doing a good job. Keep whacking and stacking.

    Flappers

Yes, those are ones. I will dig one of mine out of the lofr (haven't decoyed for a few years) and put it on here. You could use a couple of pieces of alloy sheet for the wings and of course you paint both sides identical but I only put the white flash on one sidem it just looked better when turning. Pity your such a long way away or you could have had them free gratis. How far iare you from Ellesmere as I am shooting up that way in December.
  21. Tidy. Feeder needs larger bits of seed to make the treerat nibble a bit longer. I use whole maize with a few peanuts(expensive now) treat with GameKeep powder. They sit nice and still nibbling these. I pour a drop of cooking oil on the seed which then makes the Game Keep powder stick to it. It works, don't it Old Un ?

    Flappers

Ever thought about making your own ? I made a couple based on duck flappers I had seen in the USA where the wings rotate. Mount a small electric motor in a full body decoy driving a steel rod running out either side and then glue wings to the rod. I made the white flahes just a bit bigger. Shot a lot of pigeons over these over the years. You have to make a support and peg to go in the ground.

    Log burner

I have a Cleaview in my kitchen (15x15) which is open plan to the rest of this old house. If the burner got any hotter we would be roasted. Once running with properly dried logs (2yrs at least) then the airflow control has to be closed down to about a quarter . It is a flat topped model and we cook on the top and there is a steel rolled top 6 inches above the log burner which is also very useful for keeping food warm. Photo to follow. We also have a smaller Clearview in the lounge which we only light if we have visitors or very rarely if the weather gets very cold. We only use the oil for heating water in the summer or when the big log burner isn;t working as that also has a back boiler.
