  1. " . Not sure that I'll fit in though " Reading your posts after your initial question I suspect that is true. Do the couple a favour.... Stay away.
  2. " I have been told that it can follow or be followed by a church ceremony but not sure in this case." Just to inform you OB, and put you in the picture, if I may... If the Hand Fasting that you have been invited to is to take place at the Temple at Glastonbury, then it will be a legally recognised marriage and would not therefore be followed by a Registry Office formality. Due to a lot of hard work by a Pagan lady, and others, who put the English Pagan's views to the Government, Hand Fasting if conducted by the proper people at Glastonbury will be as legal as a trip up the aisle of Canterbury Cathedral for the people concerned. Enacted in law 2016.
  3. Wouldn't fancy trying to overtake that outfit on the Motorway in me Reliant Regal Supervan 2...............

" Have come to the conclusion it is relatively pointless as a serious security measure. A balaclava renders it useless. " " Any experience, advice? " Not totally useless...I know a man who suggests...Most people train a camera on the entrance door to a property and the bandits have already donned their balaclavas when they appear on camera. Advice is train one camera on initial entry point, eg: the front garden gate, as few will don balaclavas in the street, so there's a chance of a facial before they think they're on camera and if a vehicle is involved there's a chance of a view. Down the side of a building put an unobtrusive marker at a known height..black line on the brick work perhaps or a marker on garden trellis work, at 6 feet or 5' 8". Many people place cameras with a downward view which makes it more difficult to judge a persons height, so any comparison marker helps. Put a small motion activated light next to a camera, it's known that some of the slower witted visitors who simply put their hoodies up will often look up at an unexpected light...Ta! smile please. No guarantees with any of this, but at least the local Old Bill might get know that your visitor who got out of a Transit van, is a 5' 6" (courtesy of the marker) white bloke because he didn't put his balaclava on until he got to the front door, or looked up when the light suddenly went on. There's more too and it all helps the Sheriff weed out any likely local scroats. As the lady in the TV advert used to say...Every little helps
  5. " But it is a strange one is JFK, 3 shots, 2 on target, at 80 yards moving target , from a bolt action rifle, from a man with virtually no training. Try it on a static target in that time. " There is no way to precisely know what Oswald's shooting skills were like in November of 1963, but his history shows that he had acquired very strong shooting skills with a rifle. The Marines - as Mike mentioned - had three qualifications for rifle proficiency: Marksman (190 to 209 points), Sharpshooter (210 to 219 points) and Expert (220 to 250 points). In December of 1956, Oswald scored 212 points on a test...two points over the "Sharpshooter" minimum and eight points short of "expert." In earning that score, he hit 48 of 50, then 49 of 50, in shots taken at a target 200 yards away. Later, in 1959, he qualified as a "Marksman."
  6. " I'm surprised they have not suggested the Duke of Edinburgh did it !!! " Oh! for goodness sake! can no-one be trusted to keep a secret on this forum ?...............
  7. " Ill ask again; If neither of these then who?" HIm >>>> ..................Wibble.

A Foreign Field by Ben Macintyre. Four British soldiers trapped behind the enemy lines in the chaos of August 1914. Hidden and cared for by French locals and begin to blend into village life. Ultimately betrayed, tried as spies and executed. Factual account from local records and eye witness accounts.
  9. Assuming Euro Parts use the same suppliers of spares, my 1600 Vitara had a cam belt and water pump change at 62,000 and it's still up and running at 87,000 using Euro Parts spares.
  10. Well, I'm glad at least someone benefits from it... The irony is, I never park close to the Mums and Toddlers bays or the disabled marked ones, as car doors tend to get flung open there, and there's often some comical car control to be seen. Clever clogs parked down the bottom clear of the trolley collection area too...and still got rammed by a loaded trolley at full steam ahead...
  11. Correct proceedure under the law followed. No basis for any claims that because of race / ethnicity of deceased the law was not adhered to or biased special favour shown towards the old gent. Human Rights money grabbing Lawyers may stand down....Not required... Well done! Good result.
  12. Poor old lady....I was convinced she was about to snuff it. I'm no oil painting and she probably thought I was going to marmalize her on the spot.
  13. The local shopping centre has a large, slightly sloping car park. Parking bays close to the shops are marked for Mums and Toddlers and disabled badge holders. It was quite empty this morning as I drove into one of the four entrances and parked at the lower end of the car park. Locked the car, Suzuki 4x4, and wandered towards the shops. Suddenly I hear a female voice shouting and on turning round I see an elderly lady (later established as 83) standing by a small yellow car the boot of which is open. She's yelling and waving her arms and pointing across the car park.... A fully laden shopping trolley, travelling at about 10 MPH was running down the slope headed towards my car...Too late, it had a head start and I 'aint as fast as I used to be... Those plastic bumpers work well don't they? Crack and the paint falls off, but they do stop trolleys laden with about a hundred weight of food stuff. Result. Distraught ashen faced lady close to a cardiac arrest, apparently she'd let go of the trolley and as she unlocked her car boot, said trolley made off down the slope. Ah! well, I can get some touch up paint and the plastic will get Gorilla'd, so it's not the end of the world. I can't be bothered filling in insurance claims and I was just relieved that she eventually calmed down. Full marks to the Co-op staff, sorted her and her shopping out and put her in a taxi. Relative to collect her car later. 'Second vehicle involved, estimated speed, identity of driver?' 'Stainless steel shopping trolley, 10-12 MPH. None.'
  14. You almost made the quarter Century... Best wishes for tomorrow and the next quarter..plus.
  15. I repeat...for such an offence...We're not talking about arranging interviews, questionable non 'arrestable offences' or voluntary surrender at police stations of suspects.
  16. Fair question...If there is good evidence that he committed the offence, then yes, he must be arrested at the time for 'an arrestable offence' ( there's a whole list of arrestable offences ) It's not up to the cop to decide in this case..His duty in this case is..." Who stabbed this intruder?" The old fellow called the cops..." I did"..."You're nicked then"... Discretion is allowed in some cases, but the danger is unless the law is complied with..ie: arrest for such an offence.. the cops would end up as judge and jury...
  17. Civil action by "Devastated grieving relatives" i in cases like this is not unknown. Following the correct proceedure, arrest, investigation and a decision based on the facts, by the CPS...not the police...will protect him. You could of course panic, not arrest him....he was defending himself we've got the right.... blah blah blah and throw him to the legal wolves waiting in the background. Probably already offering their services to the bereaved.
  18. Reports of an earth tremor in the area of the Cumnock Cemetry in Scotland, have been traced to a soil disturbance in the vicinity of the burial site of Kier Hardie, apparently..............
  19. You might consider running a length of very strong non perishable string through the channel as well before sealing it up for ever and ever. Then if ever you needed to run more wiring in future, you could simply haul it through the channel without disturbing the floor tiles. Just leave plenty of spare at the ends and tuck it away at each end of the channel
  20. " and if possible make a few quid while doing so?"........... The finest exponents of that little wheeze are in my opinion the Greeks. Sailing close inshore off the coast of Attica a few years ago, I was amazed to see a big tipper lorry reverse up to a cliff edge and discharge it's cargo of rubbish, plastic bags and many many plastic bottles, down the cliff face into the sea. I altered course to avoid the resulting spreading debri field. When I mentioned this later I was told the Greeks were getting a substantial EU grant to clean up the Gulf of Kolpos....apparently it is full of plastic bottles and carrier bags...
  21. My suggestion is that you form a protest group, adopt a semi official sounding title and invite the BBC to one of your ' New vote community' meetings. A well practised high pitched whine will inevitably impress the BBC enough to give you headline attention above less important news items like Middle Eastern conflicts and careless Russkies accidentally spilling nerve agents in foreign countries....
  22. Well in the light of recent revelations about cheating, I think that the last Ashes series should be replayed...and while we're about it, there is an allegation that in the recent Chumley-*** Winthrop local council election, Mrs Cricklwiate is reputed to have voted twice... .. Re-runs all round I suggest...should keep everyone happy do you think?
  23. I have learned, as a member of a US Backpacking forum, that moves are afoot in various US organisations to restrict if not outright ban any content involving firearms. For example..City Bank has apparently issued advice that it's credit/Debit cards can not be used for firearms related purchases. There is an article on the BBC website that the social media...thing?...called Reddit or similar has banned gun sales/transactions. There seems to be a number of US chain Stores that are ceasing to sell some firearms or related items too. A general political scuffling seems to be taking place, pre election dates, involving some of the mass media and sales giants to get ready to jump one way or the other according to results to prove how much in favour they were/are in attacking or bolstering the 2nd Amendment ( right to keep and bear arms) Some shops which sold ammo to backpackers on long distance trails no longer do so... That may be connected to what you have observed Pinfireman...
  24. I think it's important that British football fans should be represented in Russia..... . If all those convicted in the UK of football violence in the past 5 years were given free tickets and sent (by convoy) to the World Cup, would that help?....Perhaps not mmm? ...
