  1. I have been guilty of drinking too much post shoot, since becoming a father of three I seem to have reduced how much I drink and so very rarely drink one or two in a day. Looking back I think mine and others drunkenness was awful and detracted from the sport. Thankfully though guns were always put away properly before heavy drinking and there would always be a designated driver with SGC to take responsibility for the guns under 72 hour rule. Sometimes that would be me. I would then drive my fellow guns to straight a night out, oil and put away all guns into my safe then drive back to meet them. Then have to get dropped off at my car the next day. Too much effort once you have children!
  2. Density, mass of population and poverty. Very simple.
  3. Not far from you. Plenty of pigeons to go at. Good luck with securing permissions. I would happily take you out if you have some cultivated land to shoot over. Show you what I’d be looking for and how to set up etc.
  4. Embarrassing for true democracy. The Chinese found it very amusing.
  5. My dogs (and children) have been attacked by many different types of dogs over the years. Labs, GSDs, terriers, greyhounds, another Weimeraner, others I’ve lost track of. I was bitten by a border collie and attacked by a Doberman as a child too. My dogs will fight once bitten/leaped upon or I give the command. The common factor in all instances is poor control from the other party. The greyhounds for example ran into the broadside of my old bitch as we were jogging at 90° to them and took a huge chunk out of her flank without me even realising she had been hit. I scolded her for breaking heel as she’d dropped back a couple of yards then I realised her side was completely open. I legged it back to catch the owners. A lovely professional couple. They were appalled and I was probably over aggressive but I took their details including home address and demanded they pay the vet bills and keep their dogs muzzled at all times. To be fair to them they did both, good sensible people. Those dogs were “rescue” greyhounds - fools who take in a dysfunctional dog and hope for the best are beyond me. Kindest thing for it is a bullet.
  6. You need a stronger architect! Some of the extensions we have done on detached properties have been 200-300% of the original house.
  7. Crows are always best early morning in my experience. Easier as the days draw in.
  8. It’s to do with massing and avoiding the appearance of “terracing”. Generally this will not be applied to large detached houses in huge grounds. If it is a semidetached house on a tight road then it is very important for the street scene.

My old boss (who I dislike) killed a motorcyclist when turning right. In a 40mph, he had indicated and started his manoeuvre (according to witnesses) when the motorcyclist hit him at approx 60mph. Other independent witnesses reported that the motorcyclist had been riding dangerously. He took 3 years to die. After the death his wife brought a civil prosecution but that was thrown out. My wife’s university friend Tsk Fok was killed during 3rd year by a left turning lorry in Oxford, the wheel went over his head. They are dangerous roads.

Very true. See it all the time. We were in the car yesterday and a local building contractor with their company logo on the side performed a very dangerous overtake of a cyclist rather than wait 10/15 seconds - it was as if the cyclist didn’t exist. Worsening factors are that it was near to a playground and school.
  11. When it comes to making noise I take after Jasper Beardly.
  12. The moment a young dog of mine barks at something unfamiliar it gets scruffed and told ‘No!’ Very quick learning curve. They do not get a “Good-WOOF-boy, WOOF-it’s-WOOF-ok, WOOF-it’s-WOOF-only-WOOF-the-WOOF-postman-WOOF-delivering-WOOF-letters, WOOF-you-WOOF-don’t-WOOF-need-WOOF-to-WOOF-bark-WOOF-at-WOOF-him-WOOF-he-WOOF-won’t-WOOF-hurt-WOOF-you”.

I don’t think anyone is advocating breaking the law, just venting a little and sharing amusing anecdotes.

I was at my friend’s house aged 12/13 and then two scally lads 15/6 stole his little brother and sister’s bike from in the street outside the house. They ran in crying. His dad, ex-army, jumped in the car and we ran out after them. He literally just ran them down as they tried to cycle away then gave them a good hiding in the street with all then neighbours watching. Was brilliant to watch as we caught up but it was definitely illegal. They never came back again. His dad had multiple previous convictions for assault, one using a weapon (unopened can of coca-cola). The poor lads learnt a valuable lesson that day, yes he broke the law but he possibly prevented them from breaking the law many times over. Who am I to judge if he was morally right? 🤣
  16. I have had Peltor and MSA Sordin Supreme Pro X. Both are great but if they get lost the cost of replacement makes you cry. I now have a pair that is 1/10th of the price and when they get damaged it is less of an issue to replace. If you are just doing a couple of days driven shooting or clays I would go with the best either XPI or Pro X, however m if you use and abuse your equipment frequently over rough terrain and are picking up the tab then think of your wallet and go for Awesafe at £26 including P&P.

Having problems with the ladies jogging club again eh pal?
  18. Tattoos generally look much less offensive on darker skin as you can barely see them - which I guess is the point.

I was stuck behind a cyclist heading to the shoot this morning. Heading down a section of decent hills he was in the middle of a single track road. I would not have minded at all except he was not bothering to either peddle or take an aerodynamic posture, as an occasional cyclist that lost opportunity vexed me.

I think all fines should be proportionate to wealth and income. Except some of our nation live in caravans and have neither so that may be able to cause an unintended sway to that lifestyle choice.

A few years ago on a promenade 3 miles long by some 8 metres wide I was walking with my wife, children and dogs. Wife was pushing the pram I was carrying my tired son and dogs were to heel. We were tight together and next to the railings above the beach. A jogger came straight towards us and shouted “stand aside” despite us maintaining a constant bearing and there being 5-6m of free space to the side of us. We did not stand aside so he tried to run straight into us. My wife took the child from my arms as she knew what the only result could be 🙈 Coward sprinted away when it got too hairy for him. I had a similar thing with two lads cycling from behind us on a footpath, one tried to kick my dog that “got in the way” I legged it and caught up with them and stopped the rear cyclist. I explained it was not a bridle way, he apologised. I think a lot of fitness freaks have a narcissistic tendency. When I’m out running in the morning I will always go around people as the majority are walkers yes it is a pain to your rhythm but it just seems right.
  22. We have pens on them but I still feel it is expensive. £30/acre is too much surely? For a decent sized piece of land you are looking at £20,000.00 per annum just on rent?
  23. Denbighshire and Flintshire. I can try to find out about the land rent for a small syndicate in Powys too but think the old gamekeeper will think I’m out to gazzump him.
  24. North But it is skewed if the land is huge barren ploughed fields or pasture and thin hedgerows. You are paying for woods, dingles, spinnys, ponds, thick hedges, cover effectively.
  25. On two small DIY syndicates we pay £1/acre for sporting rights approximately. But one is going to go up next year as another, bigger, syndicate is muscling in around us. In Wales
