  1. That and cabinets are always advertised as being able to store more than they are realistically capable of. Like the MPG rating of a car. A 6 gun cabinet may store 6 shotguns packed in like sardines but will likely only fit 2-3 scoped rifles. Probably only 2 if you leave the bipods, slings etc attached. I bought a GDK extra large scoped rifle cabinet to go next to my existing shotgun cabinet when I applied for my FAC. It currently has a 32" O/U shotgun (too long for my other cabinet), a 16" barrelled rimfire rifle, a 223 centre fire rifle and a PCP air rifle in it. It's probably full to capacity with the above and any more firearms would require a separate cabinet or that the air rifle finds a home elsewhere in the house. Ebay item No 301558733524
  2. Can just imagine it now. As a DIY game shooting syndicate you've spent the best part of the summer raising birds and managing your shooting carefully in the first half of the season just to have a group of lads walk up your best drives on a midweek and take 120 birds in a day. Can do what the **** we like mate, it's the law.. The system we have now isn't perfect (far from it) and I'm sure there are more nuances to it but that sounds like a free for all.
  3. The welsh government is well and truly out of control and it's about time someone took them to task. BASC should not be threatening but should be acting on this, the game bird licensing (when the consultation result inevitably gets ignored) and every other attack on field sports that will come in the near future. Only then will they get bored of it and start tackling the other low hanging fruit.
  4. Could you not retain the current cable, disconnect from the shed end, run what cable you can through a length of duct and bury it along it's entire length? Apart from the digging, it would far easier than routing a new armored cable through your patio and house to the consumer unit. IMO, even though the cable is armored, it's always better to have it concealed away from external influences. Sunlight degrades the sheathing over time (regardless of manufacturer claims of UV resistance) and rodents are quite fond of sharpening their teeth on it.
  5. Not too far off. That part of Cardiff is a famously rough dump of a place filled with people who have no hope of breaking the low skill, low paid economy cycle. Very large percentage of the people who live there are dependent on the state. The incident is reported to have started from the authorities responding to an accident involving two youths and stolen vehicles. Locals seem to have put two and two together and got five and assumed that the police caused the accident and have, in effect, murdered the youths. This has then spilled over to people attacking the police, criminal damage and generally trashing the place. A report on the news this morning of a disabled woman who had her adapted vehicle burnt out leaving her confined to her home until a replacement can be sourced. I'm sure the truth will surface eventually once the flames have been put out and the mess cleaned up.
  6. If you care about the vehicle and it's not immediately written off then you should be requesting that the vehicle is repaired by the manufacturer or a manufacturers approved agent. Most accident repair centers will be working from a fixed cost list and will do everything possible to squeeze every penny out of the work. I would also request an independent post-repair condition report to ensure that the repairers haven't just carried out the superficial repairs and left the structural stuff (spare wheel well, rear subframe etc) in a state. Easier said than done as even your own insurer will want to close your case with as little time and effort as possible and shifting the whole process onto a third party is how they do it.
  7. Flourishing in favour of the consumer or the manufacturer? Competition is good and keeps them on their toes. Yes, as far as I am aware. I'm currently working my way through a slab of their 29g steel cartridges. Quite good if a little punchy with small shot. If they could so them in a No3 steel then they would be ideal for the foreshore.
  8. Thanks for the replies. I've since tried out the Hawke BDC 17HMR specific model and for the 16" barrel and Hornady 17g ammo combination is seems to be almost on point. Certainly more accurate than I was at 150m trying to shoot off the top of an empty IBC. To be sure, I'll need to add a bipod and do a bit more testing to see where exactly the impacts are compared with markings on the reticle. It was certainly good enough to hit a rabbit or crow sized target at the ranges marked on the reticle.
  9. I'm not all that bothered about directors having fancy cars and renumeration packages, after all it's them who took the risk to start up and/or control the company. What seems to be the issue from the outside is that most UK manufacturers seem to import nearly all of their components with only a select few manufacturing their own shot for example. I doubt any manufacture their own cases, wads, powders or primers. They aren't really manufacturers but final stage assembly plants (as are most car manufacturers). All of this needs to be imported from Europe and ROTW from the likes of Cheddite who, in additional to controlling prices to enable their own assembled cartridges to be competitive with a healthy margin, have to import these components into the UK which will be subject to tariffs, red tape and the vastly inflated shipping costs we now see. This all gets passed onto the consumer as price increases. What we really need to see happen is some strong competition from outside of the UK which may force the UK manufacturers to reconsider their supply chains and invest in bringing more of it in house. I doubt that we'll ever see this happen due to the costs of importing, proofing and shipping of assembled ammunition into the UK from the far east. I'd bet that the UK manufacturers would lobby strongly against this also. They're on a good screw at the moment and I doubt they would give it up easily. The UK is also a very small and continually shrinking market compared to elsewhere in the world. The above and that nearly every AAA, AA or even A class shooter with a good social media following seems to be sponsored these days. That must cost a pretty penny to be supplying a couple hundred shooters with a lot of free or heavily discounted cartridges which everyone else pays for.
  10. The more competition the better IMO. The current market could use a foreign alternative coming in at a much cheaper rate to upset the current racket and force a correction. We're paying near £290/thousand for superfasts for ****s sake!
  11. I can echo your experience somewhat though I wasn't particularly happy with the customer service offered by CFG and would honestly recommend that anyone in the market uses one of the other suppliers as a result. I've rounded up the dates as I cannot remember exactly without trawling through 2 years of emails but the timescales are reasonably accurate. Similar to yourself I was impressed by CFG, their product and recommendation from the TGS YouTube channel. So in July 2021 I made a purchase of a set of CF Digitals and arranged a home appointment which took place early July. The plugs were delivered mid August. All going well so far and exceeding expectations. The product worked great and the fitment was perfect. Around June 2022 the LHS plug microphone fails followed by the RHS a few weeks later. CFG were great in response to reporting the issue, simply send them back and we'll investigate. Thankfully CFG agreed to replace with new under warranty due to electronic failure. This is where things started to go down hill with the replacements taking over 4 months to arrive with 5-6 rounds of follow up emails and phone calls promising delivery but failing every time. Roll forward to February 2023 and both plugs fail in the same manner less than a week apart after just 4 months of relatively little use. CFG agree to take a look at them but any repairs would not be covered under warranty and are chargeable as they only offer a warranty of 1 year from date of initial delivery. After a whole load of complaints from myself CFG agreed to carry out the repairs as good will. Like yourself, the second pair would be based on their newest product and have replaceable electronics but for whatever reason this didn't work and the production of a third set (according to their email and web based tracker) had commenced. It's now mid May 2023 and I have yet to receive the replacement set. Despite asking and stating my lack of confidence in their product CFG offered no additional warranty or guarantee of any kind on what will be my third set of a very expensive product. If the third set fails prematurely then I'm on my own and liable for any repair costs. They'll likely end up in the bin should that happen and a more detailed and thorough write up of this whole experience posted onto every TGS video and every Facebook post asking for an in ear electronic recommendation. I initially bought the product because I struggle with over ear head sets colliding with the stock mid mount which is incredibly off putting. In the time that the CFG products have been in for 'repair' I have purchased a set of electronic over ear defenders and learned to overcome the issues I had with them. TLDR: Very expensive product which seem of an adequate quality but unreliable and with a post-sale customer service that is at best disappointing. I would 100% recommend that anyone in the market for electronic in ear defenders goes with CENS and pays the 20% additional cost.
  12. I feel your pain OP. Its wholly a psychological thing with me. I can happily attend a local Sunday club shoot where I know I am comfortably within the top 3 shooters on the day and more often than not put in a high gun or within the top three scores without a worry. Yet, when I attend a registered comp where I am squadded with unknown shooters or a non squadded event where shooters may be queued up behind me to shoot and I will go to pieces. I am struggling to get out of C class a result. A 40-43/50 on a Sunday shoot should equal a low 70's to 80's score on a registered comp but I can't seem to crack it. For yourself OP I would suggest going to a ground that have the claymate stands and shooting a 100+ on your own using the delay function. For good or bad this should give you an indication of where you are at. While there will be no one around to feel intimidated by there will also be no one there to whisper over your shoulder to say your behind or whatever.
  13. I thought that may be the case. Is there much variation in velocity between different 17gr ammunition?
  14. Hello. Is anyone able to provide a review, advice or a recommendation (on a specific model or for/against BDC options) on BDC scopes for 17 HMR rimfire calibres? The rifle will likely be a 16" barreled model with the scope of choice being either the Hawke Vantage or BSA Sweet 17 series of scope with the 17 HMR specific reticle. Usage profile of the rifle will be general pest control shooting from 50-120 yards so having a rifle I can point and shoot relatively quickly without having to memorize various zero points would be great. The main questions being, do they work as advertised or are they dependent on your barrel/ammo combo being aligned with the specification of the scope? 17Gr at 2650 fps in the case of the Hawke scope.
  15. It encompasses all fieldsports from top to bottom. Anything that involves an animal. They've set their sights on greyhound racing and now horse racing following this year's Grand National and all the fuss made over some horses being eithanised due to injury. Farming of livestock is also high on their ban list.
  16. To revive a topic rather than start an alternative but almost identical one.. Does anyone change their dogs feed to match the on/off season? My springer bitch is a fed raw and has been since we brought her home at 9 weeks. She's fed her daily calculated amount early morning and will only eat again in the evening when we give her a handful of cheap kibble when we eat. The raw food she has is quite rich with protein and fat. Its mostly made up of beef, chicken, tripe and occasional fish as well as any scraps from shot game. Now that we're in the off season I'm thinking of changing her over to a less rich kibble as her activity levels are lower and she's not running up and down the side of mountain or up to her neck in mud three days a week. Good idea or stick with the raw and lower portion sizes to maintain condition?
  17. There was a pair spotted on a foreshore in S Wales a few weeks back. I don't think it will be long, perhaps 10 years, before they are widespread throughout the whole of the UK. Quite strange that as an invasive species they have a lot more protection on the GL than other native birds. They should be taken as/when seen in the same way grey squirrels are.
  18. I had a Beretta 686 which always seemed to suffer with lead build up in the first few inches of the barrels after the chamber. It was if the forcing cones were quite steep forcing the shot to condense in a short distance and rub against the barrel walls in one particular spot. It was a pain to clean out even with various styles of brass brush and a cordless drill powering them. It was likely a non issue and the chrome lined barrels would have been fine with just a bore snake every now and then but I was always paranoid about corrosion building up behind the lead fouling. I've since moved to a Browning with back bored barrels and it seems to suffer a lot less with lead fouling. A quick bore snake every couple hundred shots and thorough clean every thousand or so and it's back to looking good as new. The 694 should be both back bored and chrome lined so I wouldn't be too worried about keeping the barrels mirror clean.
  19. Stop showing off.. Is that via an RFD?
  20. http://www.senedd.tv/Meeting/Archive/abb7c535-6551-40a2-9cb1-eafbc0290c5c?autostart=True# Starts at 03.37:15 Its about 15-20 minutes long in total but the key parts to listen to is when the minister is dragged away from her scripted reply and presents her personal opinion.
  21. What really concerns me with that video is the repeated use of the phrase "I do not think". Are ministers not elected to serve the population and act in the interests of the population despite potential conflict with their own beliefs? In Wales we are rapidly heading towards a dictatorship style of governance which is based entirely on thoughts and feelings of those in charge. This is based not only on the current ongoing game licensing proposals but the whole child smacking, 20MPH zones and upcoming proposals to charge people to drive within the city of Cardiff and countless other schemes being introduced against the general will of the population. Countless proposals at both government and council levels brought to public via consultations and the result of which blatantly ignored and proposals pushed through anyway. The most recent of which (based in RCT) is the proposal to change refuse collections from two to three weeks of which a huge majority of residents responded to in disagreement yet we are now faced with three weekly collections. It just stinks of a group of quite liberal people introducing and changing laws based on their own view and beliefs based on being (or the feeling of) nigh on untouchable. At both government and council level, leaders are untouchable as they know that it's extremely unlikely that a Labor government will lose the majority in wales and a little less than likely that a labor councilor will loose their position in council. I truly believe that unless we see monumental changes within the way people in Wales vote in the next election then the end of field sports in wales is a done deal. I believe that by 2030 even catch and release fishing and clay pigeon shooting will be banned in Wales with the killing of any live quarry for any reason a distant memory. A truly awful time to be alive.
  22. Try outside of the city centre. The premier Inn local to me (about 25 miles north of Cardiff) has rooms around £100 and is only 45 mins away on a twice hourly train. Beware there are ongoing electrification works across south wales so check any travel arrangements outside of Cardiff before committing. Any one of the commuter towns in the valleys North of Cardiff will have an acceptable rail link and will be far cheaper for your basic chain hotels. Cardiff Central station may be busy on the night but some clever planning (depending on concert start/end times) will see you miss most of it. Next time, avoid Cardiff like the plague. A truly horrible place when it comes to big events. It's a small minded city trying to play capital and struggling. There's a reason Cardiff tickets are often the cheapest and most easily available tickets on any major tour.
  23. £190 a thousand? Was it 2016 when you last bought them? Or were they one of your snappy second hand bargains? They've got to be nearer £290 a thousand today.
